About this extension
Don't Just Read. Speak Up.

Anotato adds a social layer to the static web. It allows you to leave permanent comments on any webpage that can be seen by others who have the extension, and to read, upvote, or downvote other people's comments.

Most comment sections are a mess of spam and noise. Anotato is different. We use a unique Credit and Trust Score system to ensure that only high-quality, relevant contributions rise to the top.

How It Works:

1. Discovery (The Passive View)
Browse the web as usual. When you see text highlighted in pale green, it means someone has left a thought there.

Click the highlight to open the view window.
Read the annotation (or cycle through multiple notes using < Prev and Next >).
You don't need an account to view annotations—only to create or interact with them.

2. Creation (The Active Voice)
Have something to add?
Highlight any text (10-300 characters) on a page.
Right-click and select "Create Anotato Annotation."
Write your insight (up to 20,000 characters) and save it to the page for everyone to see.

3. Join the Conversation
If someone has already highlighted a passage and you want to chime in, you don't need to create a brand new highlight. You can simply string your new comment directly onto the existing highlight, creating a clean thread of discussion.

New users receive 100 Free Credits to get started.

If your balance falls to zero, and it's been 30 days since your last top-up you get a free top-up of 100 credits.

How Credits are Used:
  • Create a new annotation: 2 Credits
  • Forward (Upvote) an annotation: 1 Credit
  • Report spam/abuse: 1 Credit (Refunded if your report is upheld)
  • View a full list of another user's annotations: 1 Credit
  • See who viewed your profile: 1 Credit

The Trust System: Your Reputation Matters

Your Trust Score determines how much influence you have on the platform.

Boost Your Score: Write good notes that get Forwarded (Upvoted), or successfully Report spam.

Every month that you make a purchase, your Trust Score increases by 1

Lose Points: If your notes are Reported (and the report is upheld by moderators), your score drops.

Interaction & Moderation

Forward (👍): Boost an annotation's visibility by your Trust Score value. (Costs 1 Credit).
Reject (👎): Reduce an annotation's visibility. (Free).
Report (❗): Flag spam or abuse for review. (Costs 1 Credit, but if you are right, you get your credit back plus a reward).

Why Install?
Anotato isn't just a tool; it's a commitment to a better internet. By attaching a small cost (Credits) and a reputation (Trust Score) to every action, we ensure that the notes you read are truly worth reading.
