I had to remove AdBlock, as it was causing major issues in pages not loading, even when restarting Firefox, and restarting my computer. I disabled all my extensions, and added back one by one. The first one I added back (essential in my mind) was AdBlock, and that alone caused the problems. Removed AdBlock, enabled my other extensions, all is now well. I think the most-recent update broke something.

Also I think it was possible to whitelist a channel without going to the subscriptions page, directly from the icon on the toolbar and I miss that

You should also be able to add a channel to your allowlist; just be sure you are viewing a video for the channel and not on the channel's homepage. If that doesn't help, definitely let us know! We hope to hear from you soon! --AdBlock Support

there is "acceptable ads" in this thing. You have to pay. It's not actively monitored for security by Mozilla, and it's so BAD compared to other instensions.
