PhishGuard is a proactive phishing detection extension that protects you from phishing attacks in real time.

How it works:
When you visit a URL, PhishGuard instantly checks its liveliness (DNS + HTTP).
It then compares the URL against a local blacklist of 60,000+ known phishing URLs (PhishTank, OpenPhish) and a whitelist of 1 million+ trusted domains (Alexa, Majestic).
If the URL is unknown, a heuristic engine analyses:
URL structure (length, special characters, IP usage, TLD)
Typosquatting (brand impersonation)
Path and query patterns (login forms, profile pages)
HTML content (forms, scripts, iframes – when backend is reachable)
A risk score (0–100) is calculated, and a verdict is returned: Legitimate, Phishing, or Non‑existent / Inactive.

Offline mode: Even without internet, a local copy of the blacklist/whitelist (20k each) and lightweight heuristics ensure you remain protected.

Privacy: No personal data is collected. Only the URL is sent to the backend for analysis (if online). All data is stored locally.
