Bu uzantı hakkında
Memolight helps you remember who said what—and why it mattered. Add a private note, short label, or color marker beside usernames, authors, or selected text without leaving the page. Your data stays in Firefox extension storage by default, with no Memolight account or developer-operated server required.
How it works
New in 1.5
The toolbar hub now shows whether the current page is supported, whether access is allowed, how many targets and saved memos were found, and whether optional sync needs attention. From the hub you can open Memo Manager or run a privacy-limited diagnosis of the current page.
Organize and recover
Private by default
Without sync, notes and settings remain in Firefox extension storage on your device. Memolight has no advertising, analytics, tracking, or developer-operated backend, and it does not collect your general browsing history.
Website access is requested only for built-in supported sites and custom domains you explicitly add and enable. Synced custom-site definitions never grant site access automatically on another installation. CSV exports are unencrypted; password-protected backup files use AES-GCM.
Optional encrypted Google Drive sync
Google Drive sync is available on Firefox desktop and stays off until you connect your own Google account. When enabled, supported Memolight data is encrypted on your device and sent directly to your hidden Google Drive app-data space. Memolight requests only the drive.appdata scope and cannot access your normal Drive files.
The random sync key is stored in the same hidden app-data space so another installation using the same Google account can reconnect. This is not zero-knowledge encryption against access to that Google account or Google itself. OAuth tokens stay in Firefox extension storage and are used only for sync. Disconnecting leaves both local and remote data intact; a separate action can delete the Drive sync data while keeping local memos.
Why permissions are needed
How it works
- On built-in supported communities, Memolight places a subtle marker beside detected usernames and authors.
- On other websites, text markers work only after you explicitly add the domain and grant access.
- Select text and use Firefox's context menu to save it as a phrase memo.
- Hover over a saved marker for a quick preview, or open it to edit the note, label, and color.
- For memos you choose to create, Memolight can keep a sanitized source URL, page title, and short surrounding snippet so you can return to the original context.

Organize and recover
- Search, filter, sort, and edit saved memos in Memo Manager.
- Control markers per supported site or custom domain.
- Keep up to 20 recent versions of memo-facing changes.
- Restore an earlier version or recover a deleted memo.
- Export readable CSV files.
- Export and import password-protected AES-GCM backups.
- Preview local storage use and the impact of a backup before importing it.
- Use dark mode.

Why permissions are needed
- Storage: notes, settings, recent versions, recovery records, sync state, and—on Firefox desktop—OAuth tokens.
- Alarms: optional sync scheduling and bounded retries.
- Identity and Google API access: used only after you choose Google Drive sync.
- Site access and scripting: markers on supported or explicitly approved domains.
- Context menus: saving text you explicitly select.
- Active tab: an on-demand, privacy-limited page diagnosis after you click the toolbar icon.

If the user explicitly connects Google Drive on Firefox desktop, supported data is encrypted locally and sent directly to the user's hidden Google Drive app-data space using only the drive.appdata scope. OAuth tokens remain in Firefox extension storage. Custom domains and Google service origins are optional permissions requested only from the relevant user action. No separate Memolight account is required.
Version 1.5.0 adds the toolbar status hub, privacy-limited current-page diagnosis, and backup-first recovery for rare damaged remote sync snapshots.
Source build (Node.js 22 / npm 10):
npm ci
MEMOLIGHT_GOOGLE_FIREFOX_CLIENT_SECRET='<installed-app credential supplied privately with the AMO submission>' npm run build:firefox
npm run lint:firefox
The unpacked output directory is dist-firefox/. The credential is excluded from Git and the source archive. The final credentialed Firefox package and matching source archive are produced together by npm run package:release.
