This privacy policy describes how the Kiwami browser extension (“Kiwami,” “the extension,” “we,” “us”) handles information. Kiwami is a viewing, study, and organization companion for YouTube. It is an independent product and is not affiliated with YouTube, Google, or Mozilla.

• No Kiwami account. You do not create an account with Selfhood Studios to use the extension.
• No first-party telemetry. Kiwami does not send analytics, crash reports, or usage beacons to Selfhood Studios servers. We do not operate a Kiwami cloud backend for normal extension features.
• Local-first. Settings, notes, resume positions, prompt history, and optional local watch statistics are stored in your browser’s extension storage on your device.
• Optional third parties only when you enable them. Community integrations and bring-your-own-key (BYOK) AI are off by default or require an explicit action and, for AI, your own API key.

Kiwami may store the following locally in browser storage (storage.local / equivalent), depending on features you use:

API keys you enter for AI providers are stored only in local extension storage. They are excluded from settings exports and from Continuity (encrypted sync) snapshots.

Kiwami does not sell personal data, does not use data for advertising, and does not build advertising profiles.



To provide its features, Kiwami’s content script runs on youtube.com pages and may read page content that is already available to the page, for example:

• Video identifiers, titles, channel names, and player state
• Transcript / caption text when you use transcript or AI features
• Descriptions, comments, and related UI elements when a feature needs them (e.g. comment analysis only when you trigger it)
• Feed card metadata when optional DeArrow-style branding cleanup is enabled

This corresponds to the add-on’s declared data-collection categories of website content and browsing activity for YouTube usage. Processing happens in the extension runtime on your machine unless an optional integration or AI action (below) sends data elsewhere.



These are opt-in (or only active when you use the related feature). They are read-only from Kiwami’s side: the extension does not cast votes, submit segments, post comments, or write to these community services on your behalf.


When enabled, Kiwami may send the current video ID to retrieve skip/segment data for that video.


When enabled, Kiwami may send the current video ID to retrieve like/dislike estimates.


When enabled, Kiwami may request branding metadata associated with video IDs visible in the YouTube feed or watch UI. Thumbnail images load through normal page network behavior where applicable.

Each of these services is operated by its own maintainers and is subject to their privacy policies. Disable the integration in Kiwami Settings to stop those requests.



AI features are optional. They remain disabled until you:

1. Choose a provider (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, xAI, NVIDIA, or a local gateway on localhost / 127.0.0.1), and
2. Supply your own API key (except for fully local setups that do not need one), and
3. Explicitly run an AI action (summarize, Q&A, chapters, quiz, comment analysis, etc.).

When you do so, Kiwami may send directly to the provider you selected (not through a Selfhood Studios proxy):

• Relevant transcript / caption text and video metadata you asked the model to use
• Your prompt and conversation context for that action
• For comment analysis: public comment text and public author handles scraped from the page, only when you trigger that action

Host access for catalog AI providers is requested as optional host permissions on a closed allowlist (no broad https://*/* wildcard). Custom OpenAI-compatible gateways are limited to localhost and 127.0.0.1.

Your AI provider’s privacy policy and terms govern how that provider processes the data you send. Selfhood Studios does not receive those prompts or API keys.



Continuity lets you push/pull an encrypted snapshot of selected local data (settings, notes, queues, related study state) using the browser’s sync storage (storage.sync), when available and when you initiate it.

• Encryption: PBKDF2-SHA-256 key derivation and AES-GCM
• API keys are stripped from snapshots before encryption
• You choose the passphrase; without it, the blob is not usable as plain settings

Sync storage may be synchronized by the browser vendor’s account infrastructure (e.g. Firefox Account / browser sync). That layer is controlled by Mozilla (or your browser vendor), not by Selfhood Studios.



Optional voice control for basic playback commands may use the browser’s speech recognition capabilities when you enable the feature. It is off by default. Microphone audio is handled by the browser’s speech stack according to the browser’s own policies; Kiwami does not upload voice audio to Selfhood Studios.



Multiview Studio can host official YouTube embed players on an extension page. YouTube’s embed player may reject extension-origin referrers. While Multiview is open, Kiwami may register a session-scoped declarativeNetRequest rule that adjusts the Referer header only for extension-initiated sub_frame requests to youtube.com/embed/ from the Multiview page. The rule does not apply to normal YouTube tab browsing, does not read response bodies, and is not used for tracking.

Firefox builds may expose the workspace as a sidebar instead of Chrome’s side panel API; the privacy model is the same.

• No Selfhood Studios user accounts for Kiwami
• No telemetry, analytics SDKs, or developer beacons to our servers
• No sale of personal data; no advertising use of your viewing data
• No notification permission for promotional push messages
• No posting comments, casting community votes, or sending messages as you
• No recording or downloading of YouTube video streams (frame grabs are single-frame images you trigger; clip “notes” are timestamp metadata, not full downloads)

Local data remains until you clear it in Kiwami Settings, use in-product clear/reset controls, or remove the extension (which removes extension storage). Optional third-party services retain only what their own policies describe for the limited identifiers or content you caused to be sent.



Kiwami is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). Do not use the extension if you are under the applicable age.



Processing occurs on your device and, when you opt in, on the infrastructure of third parties you choose (AI providers, community APIs) or your browser vendor (sync). Those parties may process data in other countries under their policies.



We may update this policy when features or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy where permitted by law.
