From https://flew.gg/splice/privacy:
- Overview
Splice is designed to run locally on your Mac. It does not include usage analytics, advertising trackers, or behavioral tracking.
This policy applies to the direct download version of Splice and the optional Splice Browser Companion extension.
This policy explains what information Splice stores locally, what the browser companion may process, and when network connections may occur.
- Information stored locally
Splice stores app preferences and emoji personalization data on your device so the app can remember your settings and improve local search results.
Local data may include:
App settings, shortcuts, and onboarding state
Preferred emoji skin tone and emoji size
Ignored apps and ignored sites you configure
Custom emoji keywords and imported keyword packs
Recent emoji selections and recent emoji search queries
Local usage counts used to rank emoji suggestions
This information is stored in macOS user defaults and Splice's local Application Support data store. It is not sent to flew.
- Accessibility and text input
Splice uses macOS accessibility permissions to detect focused text fields, identify emoji trigger text, show suggestions, and insert the emoji you choose.
Splice may process nearby text, caret position, selected text, and the app currently receiving input to perform these features locally.
Splice does not send text field contents, selected text, or typed content to flew.
- Browser companion
The optional Splice Browser Companion extension helps Splice work inside browser text fields and editable pages.
To provide this functionality, the extension may process page context locally, including:
The page URL or hostname
Whether the current frame is the top frame
The kind of editable element being used
Caret and selection state
Nearby text used to detect emoji triggers
Emoji search queries and the emoji selected
This data is exchanged locally between the browser extension and the Splice app through browser extension messaging, native messaging, or the Safari app group bridge. It is not transmitted to flew.
The extension does not sell, share, or disclose browsing data to advertisers or data brokers.
- Updates
The direct download version of Splice may use Sparkle to check for app updates. When update checks occur, your Mac contacts the update feed server and the server may receive standard request information such as IP address, user agent, and request time.
Splice does not add analytics or advertising identifiers to update checks.
