PhanTabular is a powerful browser tab archival tool designed specifically by a tab hoarder, for tab hoarders. With plenty of configuration options, it can automatically close, archive and categorize tabs, or quickly turn them all into bookmarks.

There are plenty of extensions that can close (and occasionally archive) all your open tabs, and extensions that can sort your open tabs into groups, but PhanTabular is a rare case of an extension sitting right at the intersection between both. Because its categorization is done on archived tabs, it supports features that extensions for categorizing open tabs usually can't support, such as sorting tabs into multiple categories at once.

PhanTabular's primary aim is to make it easier for you to always start with a clean browser session while also giving you the peace of mind that none of your important tabs might get lost. Most of the extension's features can be enabled individually via the settings, so it's easy to only use the ones you care about.

• Manually archive one or multiple tabs via a button click.
• Automatically archive every closed tab.
• Automatically archive (and optionally close) all open tabs of a window after restoring a session. (Most effective in combination with Firefox's "Open previous windows and tabs" setting).

• Use rules based on JSONata queries (which also natively support regular expressions) to automatically sort archived tabs into categories.

• Bulk-convert selected tabs into bookmarks. (Requires optional permission).
• Use the same extension settings across multiple browser instances thanks to sync storage. (Archive itself is stored locally only and does not synchronize to other browser instances).
• Export/import the entire archive to/from a file.
• Switch between light and dark themes (automatically, based on system preference).
