Unfortunately the add-on relies on Firefox telling it that you've right clicked on an image. This means I don't have much control over it and can't fix it :( Generally if it's a direct image link, though, it should work (i.e. a div with a background tag or such may have issues, while an tag should work)
From an earlier reply (recently posted): "When I originally made this add-on, the add-on builder SDK didn't have an easy way to use preferences; more importantly, I had very little idea how add-ons worked. I've played with them a bit more, and the SDK now also has support for preferences. I'll try to implement this soon. To be honest, it was something I'd wanted from the beginning, but a lack of experience and knowledge forced me to release it so."

It was mostly a UI decision. The current icon for this add-on, in my opinion, is ugly, and if I were a user, I would hate to have it in my context menu. When I make a custom icon that (hopefully) looks a bit better, I'll be sure to add it. Until then, I apologize.
Unfortunately, I can't do much about this. The way this add-on works is that Firefox "tells" my add-on when users right click on an 'image' (as determined by Firefox), and when it does, my add-on adds the "Google by Image" menu item. If the menu item doesn't show up, or if it doesn't work properly, it would likely have to do with the way Firefox detects images, or the way that a website serves up the images.
Either way, I'm sorry, but I can't fix it. I use the add-on myself, too, and it annoys me as well when it doesn't work. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to try to implement it.
Another way to fix SSL functionality is just to change http://images.google.com to http://www.google.com because Google supports encryption for regular Google URL's and not the images.google.com subdomain. (Links are redirected to SSL normally for those who choose to use it, otherwise HTTP is used in my proposed fix). Tested this myself with your add-on and it works, although it is slower than just using SSL by default. Cheers.
Edit: Or those of you who use SSL with this extension could just change your redirection rules... ( http://images.google.com/* to https://encrypted.google.com/* )
Edit 2: You (developer) could always make a separate extension for HTTPS and avoid all of this hassle.
It has a slight problem with https. The link that is generated when I click on 'Google by Image' is http:// whereas I have configured google images to always load in https:// mode. Hence, google images refreshes mid-search and presents me with a fresh Google search page every time I use this add-on. Other than this, it is pretty much perfect, but this limits the usability very much. I am open to any solution because I like the simplicity of this add-on.
Sorry about that. I don't use https, so I didn't catch that when I tested it.
I think the easiest way to fix would be to have an option that lets users pick whether they want http or https. Alternatively, I could force https://, but I don't think that's ideal (there might be issues associated with that).
If you have any other ideas, feel free to send me an email.
Edit: I believe this is fixed, thanks to user "Firefox Unleashed." If you have any other issues, feel free to e-mail me.
This is fantastic! Used to use TinEye but their results got more n more scarce. With this I get +10x more results plus Google's previews. Wish the guys at TinEye all the best, once Google steps in they're bound to take over.
Can the context menu entry be placed in the first group of options (view/copy)? I have a long list due to other addons. Also doesn't work with image links: https://static-cdn.addons.mozilla.net/media/img/zamboni/footer-logo-med.png?b=13bd156
As for the issues: I'll see if I can place it in along with view/copy, but I'm not too sure if I could. The same goes for the issue with image links. I'm using "contextMenu.SelectorContext("img")," which makes the context menu item activate only when Firefox says it's an image. I don't know why it doesn't work on certain links, but I'll try to see what I can do. It might take a while, though, sorry!
Nice one. I really needed it.One problem .. while using.. Gets a pop up warning firefox,"Popup is blocked". .If you could do something about it, it would be great....and no need to restart is good.
#####[ Edited: I have installed the new version 0.0.3. Pop up problem is removed. Works perfectly fine now.Thanks..One more thing, you could use another name for extension.I don't think its suit your extension]
