Transcript Pull for YouTube ("the extension") is published by SKILLMERC (Pty) Ltd, South Africa.
The extension runs only on www.youtube.com. When you open the transcript panel, it asks YouTube for the caption tracks of the video you are watching, using your own browser session, and shows them to you. Exports (TXT, SRT, VTT, Markdown, JSON, ZIP) are created inside your browser and saved to your computer.
The free features send nothing to us or to anyone else. The extension has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no accounts, and no servers of our own. We never see which videos you watch or which transcripts you pull.
Only if you activate a Pro license does the extension send data out of your browser, and only to Freemius, to check that the license is valid (details under Third parties). In Firefox this is declared as optional data collection (authentication information and technical data) and Firefox asks for your permission when you click Activate. You can turn it off again in Add-ons Manager, under Permissions and data; Pro then stops working until you allow it again.
The extension stores the following in the browser's local extension storage, on your device only:
- A random 32-character device identifier, generated the first time it is needed.
- If you activate a Pro license: your license key, the Freemius install id and install token, the plan name and expiry date, and the time of the last successful license check.
Removing the extension deletes this data.
Freemius (freemius.com) handles payments and license keys. The extension contacts api.freemius.com only when you:
- activate a license key (sends the device identifier, the license key, the extension version and a device label such as "Firefox on macOS"),
- re-check an active license (at most once a day, sends the device identifier and the license key),
- deactivate a license.
Freemius' handling of that data is described in the Freemius privacy policy at https://freemius.com/privacy/. Purchases happen on the Freemius checkout page, not inside the extension.
YouTube (youtube.com) receives the caption requests the extension makes on your behalf, in the same way the YouTube page itself does. Those requests are governed by Google's privacy policy.
No other third party is contacted.
- storage: to keep the license activation and panel settings on your device.
- Access to www.youtube.com pages: to add the transcript panel and request captions. The extension does not read or modify anything else on the page.
The extension is not directed at children. Its free features collect no data from anyone.
If this policy changes, the new version will be published with the extension update and at the listing's privacy policy link.
