What It Does

Every page title becomes: tab position, then the page's own title, then the hostname in brackets.

• The 1-based tab position matches Firefox's Alt+1..8 shortcuts, so the title tells you the key that reaches it.
• The bracketed hostname separates identically-titled pages & feeds title-based window switchers, launchers, & time trackers.
• The page's own title rides untouched in the middle: never parsed, never truncated, never stripped.

Why It Exists

Running one extension for tab numbers & another for domains-in-titles ends in a rewrite fight: each one's write re-triggers the other, & against a single-page
app that titles its own routes the old pair oscillated dozens of title writes per second. Ephemeris replaces both with a single writer that is immune by
construction:

• The page always wins: a page-origin title write becomes the new core verbatim.
• Its own output is never parsed back out of the title, so decorations cannot stack, drift, or accumulate.
• Exactly two title writes per navigation (the page's & one recomposition), one per tab-index shift, zero at rest - proven by the repository's verification
  harness, not just claimed.

Respectful By Design

• Zero permissions requested & zero data collection: it reads nothing beyond the page it is decorating & sends nothing anywhere.
• No options, no toolbar button, no polling: tab events trigger the renumbering & it is idle the rest of the time.
• Restricted pages (about:, addons.mozilla.org) stay undecorated - Firefox does not run extensions there.
