Forgejo Sidetree adds a file tree sidebar to Forgejo repository pages — the navigation GitHub users take for granted, on your own Forgejo instance.
Browsing a large repository through Forgejo's file list means clicking into a directory, going back, clicking into the next one. Sidetree puts the whole tree next to the file list, so you can move around the repository without losing your place.
What it does
Setting it up
Install, open the options page, and enter the hostname of your Forgejo instance — codeberg.org, or your own. Nothing appears until you do: the extension doesn't guess a host.
Permissions
Because your hostname is chosen at setup, the extension asks for permission to run on sites, and then acts only on the host you named. It reads that instance's API and nothing else — no analytics, no telemetry, no third-party server. An access token, if you add one, stays in the browser's sync storage and is sent only to your instance.

What it does
- Inline, not an overlay. The sidebar is part of the page layout, so it sits beside the file list instead of floating on top of it.
- Works with any Forgejo instance. Set your hostname once, in the options page.
- Remembers where you are. Open a nested directory or a file and the tree expands and scrolls to it — on page load and on in-app navigation alike.
- Resizable and collapsible. Drag the divider to size it. Collapse it with the toolbar button, the toolbar icon, or Ctrl+Shift+E.
- Stays put. It's sticky, so scrolling a long file list doesn't carry the sidebar away.
- Looks native. It uses Forgejo's own theme variables, so it follows your light or dark theme instead of fighting it.
- Large repositories included. Every top-level directory is listed, with subdirectories loading as you open them.
- Private repositories. Add a personal access token if you need one.
