  • To install this Add-on for FF 3.6.x
(works just fine-I'm using 3.6.6 on Mac OS X 10.4.11):

    1. install MR Tech Toolkit.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/421/

    2. Once installed, go to preferences under "Miscellaneous". Click on the tab for "XPI Install Options" and UNCHECK "Enable Addons Compatibility Checking".
NOTE: This turns off checking for ALL extensions (but you will only do this temporarily--see step 5 below).

There may be other add-ons that can turn this checking off but MR Tech Toolkit is the only one I know. This step is critical to be able to download FIT addon.

    3. Now install this add-on from here.

    4. Once Find in Tabs is installed, go to the Extensions list, find "Find In Tabs" extension. Right-click and select "Make Compatible" (this only applies to the add-on selected). Now this add-on will be enabled when you restart FF 3.6.x.

    5. Now we have to re-enable Add-on Compatibility Checking for the rest of the add-ons. Just reverse the steps in step 2. by re-checking the "Enable Addons Compatibility Checking".

  • pls update for 3.6/7

  • please please update, i havent used you yet, but i have a big neeeeed!

  • I reeeally love this add-on, but now it;s not compatible with FF 3.6.3, pls actualize it =(

  • Hello,

I suggest that you implement a few of the options available in Word 2003 for its Find tool.
---Find whole words only [VERY IMPORTANT ONE]
---Use wildcards (I assume * for multiple unknown characters and ? for an unknown single character).
---The Next and Previous buttons are already in place and are very important to keep.

For me the vital one is Find whole words only. Recently, I had to search the meaning of an abbreviation LE that appeared on web pages and I could not check quickly this single LE word on a web page because the Firefox Find tool led me instead to words that contained LE in it and they are so many that it was pointless trying to use the Firefox find tool for such a task.

Hope this remark helps you improve further this add-on. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Follow up comment: I have noticed one glitch and that is when I try and resize the "find in tabs" window down towards the taskbar. There is empty grey space that remains where the "find in tabs" was originally, and the browser window above does not resize. The blank space goes away when you "X" "the find in tabs". The functionality seems to be working ok, so for now I can live with the minor glitch. I will be happy, however, if this addon is ever updated.

  • Thank you bouncingmolar for the tip. This was one of my favorite addons and have not been able to get it to work as I have been upgrading my Firefox to the latest version. The nightly tester tool addon has made it possible for me to use "find in tabs" again! So far I have not noticed any problems. Thanks again bouncingmolar!

  • plugin very useful.

  • I upgraded to the latest FF\r\n\r\nAs many folks are asking.....WHEN ?\r\n\r\nWhen will there be an update please ?\r\n\r\nDoes it sound like I\'m begging ?\r\n\r\nYour head is maybe swelling from all the voices shouting: "when is an update ?"\r\n\r\nPlease, we love your work, thats why we are perhaps impatient. If you need extra help I can offer that at no cost to you. \r\n\r\nYes many people are busy, but ???\r\n\r\nI\'ll gladly donate, but for how long will this app be supported ?\r\n\r\nbest wishes..\r\n\r\n \r\n

  • Kindly make this to support with firefox 3.6

    Thanks in advance...

  • Shingoshi, I tried several times to edit the rdf file with no success. If you were able to update the add on, can you tell us how? thanks!

  • I found this add-on very helpful when I wanted to find something quickly with many tabs open. When I thought I had a problem the developers responded quickly and politely. Keep up the good work.

  • I am one of those people the rest of you are complaining about. But the fact, even developers have lives. And our lives don't always accommodate the means to keep up on the projects that we love very much, but for whatever reason cannot maintain. I know this personally, and yes it bothers me too. But the rest of you need to lighten up!

Open the extension, edit the rdf file and then stop complaining!!!! If you don't know how to, LEARN!!!

Does it sound like I'm begging ?

Your head is maybe swelling from all the voices shouting: "when is an update ?"

    If not, why bother.

  • It gets tiring seeing so many developers let people get used to using their add ons, then letting them beg for an update. This thing doesn't work, so it sucks. When it worked, it was great. And 10 bucks? Dude, get a life.

  • I love this plugin!!! Oh please oh please wont you update it for 3.6?

  • or is it just as of yet incompatible with my version of firefox? (3.5.7)

nothing shows up in the find bar. aside from the usual...and another addon i've added that contributes to 'find' -the 'similar' find check-box.

  • It would be great to see this compatible with version 3.6! Thanks!

  • Just the right idea for what I wanted.

I go through job boards and can open lots of position descriptions in tabs. Then I can use this add-on's feature to kill off duplicate positions, etc.

Bummer: If I search for a term, it skips matches if the term is at the end of a sentence, apparently because of the period.

Bummer: It doesn't refresh the tabs list when one or more tabs are closed. If a lower number tab is closed, and a higher number tab is selected from the search result list, it directs the user to one tab higher than the tab selected in the search results list. That is, closing a tab creates an offset in the tab numbering that the tabs list doesn't compensate for.
If you're searching for a term as a basis for closing several tabs, best to search and then select tabs from the results list highest to lowest so that the offset created doesn't effect access to the remaining tabs in the results list.
