Turn Facebook posts into Obsidian notes, in one click.
Jaspidian saves Facebook posts you are already viewing into your Obsidian vault as clean Markdown notes. It keeps the author, the group or page, the post text, images, link previews and comments.
What it does

Finds the posts on the current Facebook tab (feed, group, page, profile, single post, photo view)

Captures author, group/page, post text, images, link previews and comments

Writes an Obsidian-ready Markdown file with YAML frontmatter into the vault you pick

Downloads post images into a per-post attachments folder

Comment filters: original poster only, threads the poster replied to, or all comments

Detects right-to-left languages (Hebrew, Arabic) and lays the note out accordingly

Keeps exporting even if you close the popup, and picks up where it was when you reopen it

Required: the Jaspidian Obsidian plugin This add-on works together with a small companion plugin inside Obsidian, which receives each note and writes it to your vault. Download it from the project's GitHub releases page and follow INSTALL.md: https://github.com/panibor/jaspidian/releases/latest
Privacy

Never asks for or stores your Facebook password or cookies

No login automation, no private APIs, nothing that gets around Facebook's own access controls. It only reads posts you can already see in your own browser

The add-on sends notes only to the Obsidian plugin on your own computer (
127.0.0.1
)

No analytics, no tracking, no remote servers

The Obsidian plugin has an optional AI "prettify" feature that is off by default. Only if you turn it on and add your own OpenRouter key or Ollama URL does note text go to that provider. The browser add-on itself never contacts any AI service.
Why each permission is needed

Access to facebook.com / fbcdn.net: to read the posts on the page and download their images

Access to 127.0.0.1:37123: to hand the finished note to your Obsidian plugin

Tabs and scripting: to open a post in a background tab and scroll it so all comments load

Downloads: to save the note as a .md file if Obsidian isn't running

Storage: to remember your settings

Please note Jaspidian is an independent project, not affiliated with Meta, Facebook or Obsidian. It is free for personal, educational, research and non-profit use (PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0); commercial use is not permitted.
