Everything Dark Autor: Max

Everything Dark gives bright websites a darker, calmer look without waiting for each site to build its own dark theme.

Instead of applying a blunt full-page inversion, the extension analyzes page colors and adapts backgrounds, text, borders, and interface surfaces into a more readable dark presentation. The goal is to make ordinary websites feel comfortable at night while still preserving their structure and character.

You can control Everything Dark at both the global and site level. Leave it on everywhere, disable it for specific sites, or switch individual sites between two rendering approaches:
- Adaptive mode for more natural recoloring on most pages
- Fallback mode for sites where a stronger darkening pass works better

The extension also includes controls for users who want finer tuning:
- Respect websites that already provide native dark mode
- Preserve accent colors for a more faithful visual style
- Adjust brightness, contrast, and color boost thresholds
- Exclude specific elements with custom selectors when a page needs manual cleanup

Everything Dark stores its preferences locally in your browser so your settings persist across sessions. It does not require an account and does not rely on external services to apply themes.

storage
Used to save your global preferences and per-site dark mode settings locally in the browser, including enabled/disabled state, rendering mode, thresholds, and excluded selectors.

tabs
Used to detect the active tab for the popup and apply updated settings to open tabs when you change extension options.

<all_urls>
Required so the extension can analyze page styles and apply dark mode to the websites you visit. This is the core functionality of the add-on, since it modifies site appearance on arbitrary pages rather than a fixed list of domains.
