Om denne utvidinga
Moonfall 🌙 is a dark-mode extension built around the science of light and sleep.

Light reaching your eyes in the evening can affect the circadian system, especially light that strongly stimulates melanopsin. Research on evening lighting generally supports reducing melanopic light in the hours before sleep.

Most dark-mode extensions only recolor page elements. Moonfall goes further:
  • Bright page surfaces are pushed toward black
  • Text and controls are remapped to warm reds, ambers, and creams
  • Images and media are dimmed
  • Pixels the normal page remapper misses are passed through a final warm output envelope
  • Dark, Warm, Red, and Sleep modes let you choose how aggressive the reduction should be

The goal is simple:
Less light first, warmer light second.

Instead of putting an orange tint over a bright white webpage, Moonfall removes unnecessary luminous surfaces first, then warms the light that remains.

The circadian system does not respond to all visible light equally. Shorter-wavelength light generally produces stronger melanopic stimulation, while reducing overall light intensity and shifting remaining light toward warmer wavelengths can reduce that stimulation.

Moonfall is designed around two priorities:
  1. Reduce unnecessary light
  2. Shift remaining light toward warmer colors

This is why Moonfall focuses on blackening large bright surfaces instead of simply applying a screen-wide color tint.
  • Dark — near-black surfaces with warm, readable text
  • Warm — stronger amber and red tones
  • Red — aggressive red-biased remapping
  • Sleep — strongest light reduction, with readability intentionally taking a lower priority

Moonfall uses a melanopic-weighted engineering model inspired by modern circadian-lighting research.

It does not measure true melanopic EDI, retinal exposure, or guarantee that you will fall asleep faster.

Your actual light exposure also depends on things Moonfall cannot measure, including:
  • Monitor brightness
  • Display spectral output
  • Viewing distance
  • Room lighting
  • Time of exposure
  • Individual circadian sensitivity

Moonfall is designed to reduce unnecessary bright and melanopically weighted light from webpages, not to act as a medical or sleep treatment.
