Om denne utvidinga
No setup. Press play and study.
Kitsuneru puts native subtitles with instant dictionary definitions on top of the videos you already watch. Open YouTube and it just works - pick your track and go. Watching anime? Find subs without leaving the page.
Then hover a word. No pausing, no tab switching, no copy-paste into a dictionary.
Watching foreign video with English subtitles never really worked. What you actually needed was native subtitles with definitions on demand. That's the whole idea.
Works on anime sites, YouTube, Netflix, Crunchyroll, local video files and most HTML5 players - on Firefox for desktop and Firefox for Android.
Free. No account. No subscription. No telemetry.

🇯🇵 JAPANESE GETS THE FULL STACK
JMdict, JMnedict, KANJIDIC, pitch accent, frequency data and JLPT information. Every other language runs on Yomitan-format dictionaries - the same ecosystem Yomitan users already have - so you are never limited to what ships in the box.
🧠 WHAT IT DOESN'T DO
It doesn't learn the language for you. Hovering a word is recognition, and recognition feels like progress more than it is progress. What builds memory is guessing before you look, retelling the scene, and producing the sentence yourself. Kitsuneru hands you the tools; you still have to use them.
Ranks and XP measure activity, not ability - a log of what you did, not a certificate of what you know. No grinding, no mandatory lessons, no streak guilt.
🔒 PRIVACY
Your study data, mined words and settings stay in your browser's local storage. There is no Kitsuneru account and no Kitsuneru server. Network requests happen only when you use a feature that needs one: subtitle search, downloading a dictionary, or an AI feature you enabled with your own API key. AI stays dormant until you add a key of your own.
🔑 WHY IT ASKS FOR BROAD SITE ACCESS
Subtitles have to be drawn over video players the add-on can't know about in advance, including players inside embedded frames, so it requests access to all sites. It auto-loads only on sites you allowlist. If that's more than you want to grant, restrict it in Firefox's add-on permissions to the streaming sites you actually use - everything above still works.
