Awesome! Waardering 5 van 5 sterren

Currently writing my graduation thesis, so all concentration is needed while doing so. Despite knowing that, it is always tempting to go on social media sites and such. Leechblock offers a great solution! You can easily decide what sites you want to block, and for how long. Thank you!

Normally works well, but broken sync via Firefox Sync Waardering 4 van 5 sterren

I like the plugin. Especially the countdown timer in the toolbar, very effective. Quite configurable and easy to get started with. Good settings, like hiding the countdown timer for non-blocked pages.

Problem is there is a weird interaction with Firefox Sync (FF 40.0.2) when I have the plugin (0.6.7.1.1-signed) installed on multiple machines. It tends to revert my settings, including block lists, to old settings from another computer. I may find myself having to go to each computer, and changing the settings in lockstep to prevent this.

Would be preferable if the plugin always synced to the latest settings, or kept the local computer settings if newer than the ones stored on Firefox Sync.

Hate it, but love it Waardering 5 van 5 sterren

Currently trying to get some stuff done, but I'd really love to search reddit right now, and potato my night away. For the better, I can no longer do that. It's very freeing, but also a bit frustrating too.

Anyway, if you struggle with time management, you should definitely get this. Super handy.

LeechBlock blocked various sites in Firefox even though I hadn't installed it. This happened several times and I never figured out how to disable it because it always blocked the Add-ons Manager page. No one else has access to my computer, I'm its only user. Maybe it was installed in the store where I bought it. I don't really know... Anyways, I'll change my rating to 3 stars so this doesn't harm LeechBlock's reputation.

Huh?

How could LeechBlock be blocking sites if it hasn't been installed? I think you should take this up with the other people who have access to your computer!

Very good; not perfect Waardering 4 van 5 sterren

As I see you follow users' feedback carefully, I want to let you know this.

1) I have tested this with 2 sites (Twitter, and adnkronos.com) and it looks to me that even without the *.sitename.com thing all pages from a site are blocked.

2) I have no idea why, but the URL ign.it directs to Adkronos site. And the block doesn't work (try it yourself). I think that it would be great if even this kind of "redirecting" would be impeded.

3) There's a review posted on July 16 that gives 1 star and says abrupt lies about this add-on. I think you should report the fact to Mozilla and have it removed.

Thanks for the review and feedback.

1) By design, entering sitename.com will block every page on sitename.com and www.sitename.com. Anything else of the form <whatever>.sitename.com needs to be blocked either explicitly or using a wildcard (*.sitename.com). Hope that clarifies things!

2) No idea either! But it's not a true redirect; it's a domain alias. So LB can't tell that it's 'really' adkronos.com, since the URL is different. You'll have to add it to the block set separately.

3) Thanks for letting me know!

I'm wanting to block facebook so I entered the URL, but it's only blocking the home page. If I go to my profile page or anything else, it'll let me. Is there a way I can block anything with the word "Facebook" in the URL?

Blocking Facebook

Try this:

*.facebook.com

Probably the most useful thing I've ever installed in my browser. I wish I could do the same on my phone. Thanks a lot!
A lot of sites are design to suck you in and burn your time. Worst of all are sites like Buzzfeed which only push out crap that purely wastes your time, and yet they are really good parasites, undermining your discipline. We all need to fight back to kill these parasites! Thanks once again!

My life improved when I installed LeechBlock. I stopped wasting my time on Facebook and avoided other addicting websites. This app is like one of the keys to salvation. Thank you very much! You guys are my savior!

Pretty comprehensive tool to fight procrastination with some anti-loophole measures. Waardering 5 van 5 sterren

I was looking for a Firefox equivalent to Chrome's "Stayfocusd" add-on, and this is the best alternative I have found. It has some options that Stayfocusd does not have, and vice versa, but I think this should be the go-to for anybody.

What I like the most about LeechBlock is that you are able to set up separate timers and block lengths for different websites, even separate groups of websites! This really helps you map out your "online schedule". You could set yourself ten minutes for all social networking sites a day, along with an hour of Netflix for example. This flexibility is not found often in these tools.

The UI and associated fields seem fairly simple to use; you should be able to clearly understand what everything does. When I first set the add-on up I wasn't sure if it was working correctly because the timer would not update (normally has a few second intervals). But the next day it worked fine; perhaps it was restarting the browser that kicked it into place?

It's very convenient to add websites to your block groups, in fact it adds a context menu to your right click.

There are several anti-loophole measures in this addon that allow you to restrict access to blocking options for websites that are currently blocked, or even disable your access from the add-on completely, and disable about:config access. Depending on how terrible of a person you are. But I think that if you are particularly appalling you will be able to find a way to disable it even with all security measures.

Upon looking through the FAQ I found there was a way to do what I suggested; internet-wide blocks and employing a whitelist. However, I think these functions should be illustrated on the UI itself, as they are quite important and it isn't obvious how to do these things, at least for the average user.

Other than that, I highly recommend this.

Thanks for the review!

You can do an internet-wide block and whitelist using wildcards and exceptions:

I'm so thankful for this add-on! I really needed to take a break from sites like Facebook and Hulu, but it became so automatic for me to type those URLs into my browser when I was bored or taking a break. I truly didn't even realize I was doing it anymore. LeechBlock allows for so much user control, including times, dates, and specific URLs. Thank you for getting my productivity back and helping me with my "fast" of certain sites.

This needs a whitelist NOW! Waardering 4 van 5 sterren

I really like this addon, it's great, you can specify as many block times as you wish, but it lacks a whiteleast really bad. I want, for instance, the ability to block a domain, but whitelist one of it's pages. I'll be disabling it now until this is corrected. But from what I've seen, this is the only thing it's lacking. Thank you for the great addon, keep up the good work!

Whitelist

The option to whitelist pages is already implemented:

Firstly, siteblocker apps are great. This app automatically gets at least 4 stars just for being this kind of app. :P

However, it's gettin' FIVE, cuz this one gives you so much control over how you block things. Not only does it allow you to create multiple block sets, but EACH set lets you set an infinite number of timeframes when that set is actively blocking. I'm glossing over a lot of details and stuff with this add-on, but it just lets you do so much. Thank you for being such a good add-on. :D

edit: ah! sorry. normally open source add ons will have the source available with each release with a "view the source" button. thank you.

Open source

LeechBlock is open source, released under Mozilla Public License, version 2.0. Just download the XPI file and unzip it; all the source code is there.

One of the best addons ever. No more wasting time on forums or imageboards. The only thing I wish it could do is check if the Youtube video I'm watching is pointless or not!
