Over deze extensie
Highlight turns any word, phrase or pattern you care about into a colour-coded, interactive highlight — automatically, on every page you browse.

Build unlimited word lists (names, terms, products, anything), give each one its own colour and behaviour, and Highlight marks matches on every page you visit, including content that loads as you scroll or as the page updates. No manual searching required.

** Smart matching, not just literal text
- Accent/diacritic-insensitive, with coverage across Spanish, French, German, Nordic, Slavic, Lithuanian and Russian Cyrillic variants
- Whole-word or partial matching, set per list
- Multi-word phrase support, with longer phrases always taking priority
- Optional fuzzy/phonetic matching for close spelling variants (e.g. "Al-Qaida" vs "Al Qaeda"), with Exact / Moderate / Broad sensitivity — plus separate switches for whether a fuzzy hit may trigger a word rule or satisfy a combination rule
- A "never highlight" master list to permanently exclude words or phrases everywhere
- Per-list and global site allow/block rules, with wildcard domain support

** Pattern rules — highlight text by its shape
Some things you can describe but never list: every account number, case reference, date or amount on a page. A pattern rule finds them without knowing any of them in advance.
- Live tester — paste sample text and watch matches highlight as you type, with a match count and inline errors for an invalid pattern
- Capture groups — match "Case No. 40912" to find it, but colour only the number
- A match limit per page, so a broader-than-intended pattern can't flood a document
- Its own colour, tooltip, link, notification and site scope, exactly like a list
- Can be used as a condition inside a combination rule
- Shareable as a paste-in code

** Word rules — one word, its own behaviour
Override the tooltip, link or notification for a single word inside a list without touching the rest of it. Each word rule can carry its own name, its own site scope, and can be shared on its own.

** Combination rules — catch patterns across lists
Rules that only fire when words from different lists appear together on the same page, with required / "any of these" / "none of these" logic — a single excluded word is enough to hold a rule back. No query language needed. A combination rule can also carry its own tooltip, anchored to whichever of its words you choose, shown only once the whole combination is actually satisfied.

** Every rule has a life of its own
Lists, word rules, combination rules and pattern rules all share the same controls, in the same place: pause it without deleting it, mute its notifications while it keeps working, limit it to certain sites, or hand it to a colleague as a compact paste-in code.

** Conflict detection
When a new list or pattern overlaps something you already have, Highlight says so at save time and asks which should win — naming both sides and the exact words that collided. Choose a priority, or "Keep both" to stop flagging that pair. Decisions are remembered, listed in Settings, changeable at any time, and the whole check can be switched off.

** Make every highlight interactive
- Hover tooltips with your own text, in ten visual styles (Card, Minimal, Terminal, Chip, Glass, System, Quest, Game Boy, Cyberpunk, Horror), with size and font-size controls, an optional always-visible mode, a copy button, a corner badge marking words that have one, and Escape to dismiss every pinned tooltip at once
- Clickable highlights that open any URL — in the same tab, a new tab, a new window, or a private window
- Per-list notifications with your own message, as an in-page toast (configurable position, size, duration and sound) or a native system notification

** Performance, your call
Choose how pages are watched for content that arrives after load: Always watch for changes (the default — new matches highlight the moment they appear), Automatic (lighter, watches only app-like pages), or Initial load only (fastest).

** Find what has gone quiet
An inactivity report shows the words, word rules, combination rules and lists that have gone longest without appearing on any page — exportable as a real .xlsx spreadsheet for pruning long lists away from the popup.

** Stay organized
Folders, drag-to-reorder, instant search, and one-click pause/resume for a single list or everything at once. Choose which action icons appear on each list row and in what order. Right-click any selected text on any page to add it straight to an existing or brand-new list — no copy-pasting into a form.

** Make it yours
Dark or light mode and a full theme editor: background, cards, rows, borders, text and accent colours, ten built-in presets (Obsidian, Graphite, Cyberpunk, Nordic, Sakura, Amethyst, Monolith, Sepia, Oceanic, Terminal) plus any you save yourself, three density modes, border thickness, corner shape, shadow depth, typography weight and spacing, and the extension's font family. Every settings panel and rule editor can be a stacked accordion or a horizontal tab strip, whichever you prefer. Available in English, Spanish and Lithuanian.

** Keyboard shortcuts
Two opt-in pause shortcuts (every tab at once, or just the active tab) and two for jumping to the next/previous match within the list you last clicked. All off by default.

** Backup and portability
Export and import your whole setup — lists, folders, word rules, pattern rules, combination rules and settings — as a JSON file, with a category picker so you choose exactly what travels. Importing shows a full review first: what merges, what is new, and, for a replace, what would be removed. Highlight can also auto-detect and convert exports from two other highlighting tools.

** Private by design
Everything runs locally in your browser. There are no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no telemetry — nothing about you or the pages you visit is collected, transmitted or shared, and your configuration never leaves your device.

Highlight asks for storage, notifications and context-menu access, plus permission to read page text on the sites you visit — that last one is what lets it find your words on a page. It reads; it never sends.
