RootLine Privacy and Data Handling

RootLine is local-first. This build has no RootLine developer telemetry, analytics backend, or RootLine cloud service.

Data used by the extension
RootLine reads ChatGPT pages that you are signed into and may use authenticated requests to chatgpt.com to retrieve your own conversation and project catalog data. This can include conversation text, titles, URLs, and project information. ChatGPT requests are sent to ChatGPT and remain subject to that service’s privacy policy. RootLine does not persist authorization credentials in its workspace files or Helper configuration.

Local storage
RootLine stores runtime data in Firefox extension storage and IndexedDB. This includes organization, Favorites and other metadata, Notes, Rules, and saved chat content. When the Windows Helper and a data folder are configured, RootLine also saves and synchronizes this data to the Windows folder you choose.

Windows Helper
The separately installed Helper performs local filesystem operations requested by the add-on through Firefox Native Messaging. It has no RootLine-operated network endpoint. Removing the Helper does not delete your RootLine data folder.

Your control
You choose the Windows data folder and can manage the saved data locally. Browser-local data and files in your Windows data folder are separate copies; removing the extension or Helper does not necessarily remove every saved copy. Files you export or share remain under your control.
