Privacy Policy — Friends' Ratings for Letterboxd

This browser extension ("the Extension") is designed to be private by default. This policy explains, in plain terms, exactly what it does and does not do with your information.

The short version
The Extension collects no personal data, uses no analytics or trackers, and sends nothing to any server operated by the developer or any third party. Everything it does happens locally, inside your own browser.

What the Extension does
On Letterboxd film pages, the Extension shows the average rating that your Letterboxd friends (the members you follow) gave to that film, as a histogram. To do this it:

Reads the content of Letterboxd pages you are already viewing or that are associated with the film you're viewing (specifically, your friends-ratings page for that film), using your existing, logged-in Letterboxd session in your browser.
Calculates the average and distribution from those ratings and displays it on the page.
These page requests go only to letterboxd.com. The Extension does not contact any other website or any server run by the developer.

What is stored, and where
The Extension stores the following only on your device, using the browser's local extension storage:

Your on/off preference for the widget.
Your Letterboxd username, either auto-detected from the page or entered by you, so the Extension knows whose friends to look up.
A temporary local cache of computed friend-average results, so pages don't have to be re-fetched on every visit.
This information never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time by removing the Extension or clearing its data in your browser's extension settings.

What is NOT collected
The Extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share:

Personally identifiable information (name, email, address, etc.)
Authentication credentials or cookies
Browsing history or activity on other sites
Location, health, or financial information
Any analytics, telemetry, or advertising identifiers
Third parties
The Extension uses no third-party analytics, advertising, or data-processing services. No data is transferred to third parties because no data is collected in the first place.

Permissions
storage — to save your on/off setting, your username, and the local result cache on your device.
Access to letterboxd.com — so the Extension can run on Letterboxd, display the histogram on film pages, and read the friends-ratings data needed to compute the average.
The Extension requests no other permissions and runs on no other websites.

Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at the same location with a new "Last updated" date.
