ComparePad helps you decide between products you already have open in Firefox.
How it works
- Open a product page, click Add this tab (or add tabs from the current window). ComparePad reads title, price, and key details from the page and lists them in the sidebar.
- When you have at least two items, Compare with A* sends that information to an AI model and shows a structured comparison (including pros/cons and follow‑up questions you can answer in chat).
- Below the comparison, Where to Buy shows a link back to the page you added each product from, plus shortcuts to retailer search pages suited to your region (inferred from the site’s domain).
Optional API key
- By default, comparisons use the add‑on author’s backend service (which forwards requests to Google’s Gemini API). Usage limits may apply.
- In Settings, you can paste your own Google Gemini API key so requests use your quota instead. The key is stored only in your browser (extension storage) and sent only when you run a comparison or chat.
Permissions (why they’re needed)
- Storage — saves your product list and optional API key locally.
- Tabs / active tab — finds the pages you choose to add and talks to the page script.
- Access data on all sites — lets the content script run on shopping sites when you use “add from tab”; nothing is scraped until you trigger that action.
Privacy
- Comparisons and chat send product text, prices, URLs, and related page content to the remote service (and to Google when Gemini is used).
