Fast and easy
I have had this issue for so long, it would be great if someone could pick up this project and keep it going. So many of osx firefox users can't read pdf's, I find my self either download a pdf to view or switching to safari to view it. It would be great if firefox's built pdf would work on osx but it doesn't!!!
I had a tweaked version of the plugin which worked with FF up to version 17.x, but when I upgraded to 18 today, it immediately crashes FF. Reverted to the (worse) Schubert-IT plugin.
PDF display in FF on a Mac is an old and important problem, but still not solved :-(
although you can look at PDF that's it. Has no support for button For example I use a Majority PDF's because they look better than anything html. I uses buttons you click to return home. They don't works, Plus I want the ability to fillout forms online and send them For fillout doesn't work. No support for SEaMonkey
Works, period. Mac OS X 10.7, Firefox Nightly Build 14.0a1
I've had this add-on for a while now, and it's been wonderful on my Mac. But, I recently upgraded to the new Firefox, Firefox 10, and it's no longer compatible. Problem! I'm a college student and now can't open the imbedded PDF files my professors like so much. When will this be compatible with the new Firefox? Until it's compatible, hopefully I'll be able to go back to the old Firefox...
Try pdf.js extension. It works for 64 bit FF.
search add on on this website or here is a link:
Please enable the plugin to be usable on FF 8. Thanks!
I use Mac OS X 10.5.8 my FF 8.0.1 is 32 bit mode .
The same extension discussed below (Nov 1). i just modified it to work with FF 4 till 10 (in 32 bit mode)
Hassle free - Direct download of this extension :
Just open the Zip file and install the Extension
("install add-on from file" in options of add-ons window in FF)
There's a script to get it and modify it to work with Firefox, but you need to follow instructions at the end of the script to make FIreFox run in 32 bit mode and to install the plugin from a file.
I'd love to give this extension a five star rating, because it has worked great over the years. Now I'm using Firefox 7 in full 64-bit mode and I can't use this extension any longer. I hope that the developer community will find time to update this to work with 64-bit Firefox 7. I would change my rating to five stars for that.
PS: Yes, I know that there are ways to make this extension work with Firefox 7, but *only* if Firefox is run in 32-bit mode. I need to keep Firefox in 64-bit mode for compatibility with other extensions and applications.
I did not have any luck with kimpton's procedure (10.5.8, already 32-bit/FF 7.01), but this did work for me - http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20110622163401497
(I had to do the entire procedure described in the hint)
I always use this and i have scripts which can set mac apps to 32 bit by default. This is the easiest way for you to get it working in 7.*
1. Download it. Do it in Safari and right click save and download the xpi.
2. Rename the xpi to end in .zip
3. Unzip the file by double clicking
4. Go inside the unzipped file and locate the Install.rdf
5. Open Instaff.rdf in Text Edit and change the Max version to 7.*.* and save it.
6. Copy the folder and put it here (this is the global extensions place meaning whom ever logs in will get this installed
7. Set Fire Fox to 32 bit by doing Get Info on the Firefox application and tick the box open in 32-bit.
8. Open Firefox and try it out
Mozilla please pay attention for these instructions and put them on the side of this add on page. Its getting annoying now posting these instructions when all i want to do is help people out and not get over looked under the pile of ratings!
Kara, Mozilla didn't make this add-on, so they're not responsible for keeping it updated.
Please Mozilla, UPDATE your version numbers for important plugins! It is a horror to determine always antique descriptions and links. PDF Plugin is common.
Version 1.2.0 still working fine for me with FF 5.01 and OSX 10.6.8 and running in 64bit.
Gr8t work-around! Works!
View PDFs with "Firefox PDF plug-in for Mac" in Firefox 5 (32Bits)
This addon works for me. Early indications are that it has a useful set of options.
The advice on http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Opening%20PDF%20files%20within%20Firefox?s=pdf&as=s (Opening PDF files within Firefox) seems to be wrong. "Firefox PDF Plugin extension" works for me on a PPC with OS 10.4.11 and Firefox 3.6.19. The Schubert plugin, however, doesn't work for me at all, does not appear in Firefox's plugin list, and is not available as an option under Firefox-->Preferences-->Applications for .pdf files.
This is a plugin for Mac, and it works perfectly with Firefox 3.6. Its search feature and the zoom with two fingers on the track pad are very useful.
Unfortunately it has not been ported to Firefox 4 or 5, and I wonder if there is any intention to do it.
http://www.schubert-it.com/support/ is a possible alternative, but it lacks the search capability of the present plugin... I am considering returning to Firefox 3.6 to continue to use this precious plugin.
Sorry for being lame but I went to schubert site, downloaded the 2.4.1 version dmg and then went through installation but this add on is not listed in my add ons and definitely cannot open the pdf's in firefox. What did I do wrong?
I got tired of waiting for an update for FF 5.0. I found this other plug in that works perfectly (http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/)!
Sehr praktisches Plugin.
Good for viewing PDFs. Bad for it's inability to recognize basic, instinctive keyboard commands such as page-up, page-down, close window/tab.
Just scrolled down and it seems it's because I'm using firefox in 64 bit mode. Sam Gross, if you ever read these reviews please please do an update! Ask for donations, I'll pay! Thanks
I love this add-on but the update isn't in the extension directory,
Version 1.2 (WORKS WITH FIREFOX 4) can be downloaded here:
