  • This is an awesome addon. FF may technically have this included in Quantum, but the button is TINY and I can't find a way to resize. A larger button would be super helpful.
    Firefox 57+ already has this button builtin by default. ;-)
  • Nice addon! All ok but custom style (like in your desrciption) slightly increased toolbar height.

    P.S. Thanks for fast answer!
    P.S.S. Another issue with first menu item. Left margin is too big.
    You are right, the example uses a slightly larger image. I have added a minor tweak to improve the image height for that example.
  • It's can't work with plugin「Stay-Open Menu 2.2.1」
    Like 「Ctrl + Click」not work.

    Would you please solve it ?
    The 「Classic Bookmarks Button」is very good plugin for firefox.
    Thank you~
    "Stay-Open Menu" add-on has to add the bookmarks popup id CBB offers to its popup lists. I can't solve this in CBB, because its not a CBB feature.
  • Not only this add-on is great, but also possess a quality of nostalgic elegance. I highly appreciate it.

    But it can not display an icon of my choice, which resides in
    E:\8.3\Yellow_Star.png

    Following your instruction, I add these lines to userChrome.css. But it does not work.

    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button > .toolbarbutton-icon {
    list-style-image: url("chrome://E:/8.3/Yellow_Star.png") !important;
    -moz-image-region: rect(0, 16px, 16px, 0px) !important;
    }
    I'm sorry, but the correct way to point to local files looks like this (I forgot to add this to main page, but its now there):

    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button > .toolbarbutton-icon {
    list-style-image: url("file:///C:/test.png") !important;
    -moz-image-region: rect(0, 16px, 16px, 0px) !important;
    }
  • But I think it would be much better to be able to customize the icon.
    This add-on offers no preferences, but you can override the current icon using custom code in Stylish add-on or userChrome.css.

    I've added some info about that to main page.
  • Awesome add-on
  • Does exactly what it claims.
  • Great addetion to the collection, i have a suggestion/request if you may.

    Can you please add an option for the ICON to vary in color? Would be nice if the bookmark icon matched the other default icon's colors in firefox, which are white&black, not blue like this icon.

    Thanks, keep up the good work.
    Tihs is a very tiny add-on without any preference windows. It would be easier to this code in userChrome.css or Stylish:

    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button .toolbarbutton-icon{
    list-style-image: url("chrome://browser/skin/Toolbar.png") !important;
    -moz-image-region: rect(0, 144px, 18px, 126px) !important;
    }
    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button:-moz-lwtheme-brighttext .toolbarbutton-icon{
    list-style-image: url("chrome://browser/skin/Toolbar-inverted.png") !important;
    }
  • Great addon, thanks... Useful even on pre-australis builds to remove garbage (fixed menuitems) from the bookmarks menu with the help of the stylish code posted in a previous comment. Now, I was wondering if there is a way to replace the default icon with the one of the current active theme.

    *EDIT* Thank you for your answer, that code works a treat. Great support, btw!
    Its possible. Use this code in userChrome.css or Stylish:

    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button .toolbarbutton-icon{
    list-style-image: url("chrome://browser/skin/Toolbar.png") !important;
    -moz-image-region: rect(0, 144px, 18px, 126px) !important;
    }
    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button:-moz-lwtheme-brighttext .toolbarbutton-icon{
    list-style-image: url("chrome://browser/skin/Toolbar-inverted.png") !important;
    }
  • Thank you...this little add-on solves the problem, is exactly as advertised, and works a peach. No drama, just a simple quick way to create a Bookmark.
  • Excellent! I really missed the old bookmark menu from the old versions of Firefox. This Add-on finally solved my problems.
  • This add-on fixed a terrible alteration of Firefox 29.0.1. It was in this update, I think, that the "Bookmark This Page" item disappeared from the default bookmark pulldown menu. I tried using the star to create new bookmarks, but I had to rectify the noxious default behavior of always placing them in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder. Ctl-D still put the new bookmarks into the Bookmarks Menu folder, but that meant that instead of a mouse click I had to type the 2 characters. That impeded the flow of my work with Firefox.

    This add-on gives me back the pulldown menu that I have been familiar with for who knows how long. I can again use a mouse click to save a bookmark to the Bookmarks Menu folder. No need to type Ctl-D or click the star a second time to move a new bookmark from Unsorted to Bookmarks Menu. It's exactly what I wanted.

    Now, I wish the developers would find it in their hearts to let us customize the target folder of a click on the star to create a new bookmark.
  • Thanks.
    But how do I get the Bookmarks Sidebar with this button?
    Use Classic Theme Restorer. It offers a bookmarks sidebar button.

    CTRL+B would do the job too.
  • I've never used the star icon to save a bookmark. I've always dragged a tab to where I want the bookmark to be. So for FF29 to force the star icon to take up what limited space I have in the toolbar was frustrating.
    Thank you for creating this so I can go back to the more efficient setup.
  • Thank you very much for this add-on. For me, personally, it's heaven send.
    I reverted back from the beta channel to Firefox 28 for the time being.
    With you add-ons I'm ready to give it another go.

    The new interface just doesn't ring with me. I don't see how
    my productivity would benefit from it and as with looking and
    feeling more like chrome, well there's a reason I'm using
    Firefox. But all's well as long as I keep to decide how it
    will look and feel at my end.

    Cheers!
  • Ari, if you don't just reposition the popup bookmarks menu, give options to hide/remove the fixed system menuitems "Subscribe to page, Unsorted etc"

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Thanks for your answer and pointing me to the right direction. Now I rate 5 stars and I can additionally hide the leftover menu separators ;)

    /* Hide fixed Separators */
    #classic_BMB_bookmarksPopup > menuseparator:nth-child(2),
    #classic_BMB_bookmarksPopup > menuseparator:nth-child(4),
    #classic_BMB_bookmarksPopup > menuseparator:nth-child(8),
    #classic_BMB_bookmarksPopup > menuseparator:nth-child(10)
    visibility:collapse !important;
    }

    /* Hide the last Separator */
    .hide-if-empty-places-result {
    visibility:collapse !important;
    }
    Adding options to such a small add-on would be an overkill. Also Firefox and the default bookmarks menu do not offer options to hide fixed items.

    However, adding extra code to a Stylish profile will hide unwanted items:

    /* hide 'View Bookmarks Toolbar' */
    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button #BMB_viewBookmarksToolbar {
    visibility:collapse !important;
    }
    /* hide 'Show All Bookmarks' */
    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button #BMB_bookmarksShowAll {
    visibility:collapse !important;
    }
    /* hide 'Bookmark This Page' */
    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button #BMB_bookmarkThisPage {
    visibility:collapse !important;
    }
    /* hide 'Subscribe to This Page' */
    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button #BMB_subscribeToPageMenuitem {
    visibility:collapse !important;
    }
    /* hide 'Unsorted Bookmarks' */
    #classic_bm_button23-toolbar-button #BMB_unsortedBookmarks {
    visibility:collapse !important;
    }
  • Perfect addon for Australis interface.

    Would it be possibile to expand Unsorted Bookmarks folder as a menu (like in Australis) ?

    Thank you
    Yes, this is possible.
  • Nice and useful addon that allows the user to see the bookmarks button at all times,even with the file menu toggled on (which IMHO had to be possible to begin with,why not leave that choice?)
  • Very good for normal bookmarks
  • This is a mighty useful add-on !
  • I upgraded from FF 22.0 to 24.0. Installed your add-on. The drop down bookmarks tool still not sticking..

    Made the mistake of installing the add-on in FF 22.0 and then upgrading to 24.0. Uninstalled in FF 24.0, re-installed the add-on and it is working fine now.

    Thanks Aris. I went without updating from 22.0 for nearly 2 months now because of this bug. Now I am updated and elevated. :)
  • Add-on works as I desire, bypasses this problem for me, simply replaces the drop-down Bookmark button that un-sticks/hides when the menu bar is visible. .

    Quoted from cor-el from Mozilla support forum:
    "You only see the Bookmarks Menu button if the menu bar with the Bookmarks menu is hidden. Otherwise this button will be hidden once you close the Customize window."
    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar
  • I didn't know that the button was broken in Failfox because I only keep some old version of it for testing and backup purposes. I don't even know or care which version it is because I refuse to waste any time with the rabid-release nonsense.

    Anyways, Palemoon 24 came out and it rocks- but it imported the dropdown button mistake. I then heard that there was an add-on to fix it. When the page opened I should not have been so surprised that it was Aris.

    Has Aris ever made a bad add-on? Maybe Mozilla needs to hire him and put him in charge of the UI department. Everything would look good, there would be free choice and there never would be a bug again!

    **EDIT** Apparently they introduced bugs that cause this button to refuse to show on the toolbar. It does show in the customization window- but even there it is missing it's dropdown arrow. It is possible to drag it onto the toolbar- and then it instantly vanishes. It then is found in the customization bin again but it refuses to stay on the bars. Perhaps if it bought it a drink and gave it a backrub it might lighten up and stick around???
    When you are talking about the 'dropdown button mistake', which one do you mean particularly?

    The Palemoon (24) and Firefox (4-26) (non-UX/non-Australis) bookmarks menu button is still the same for me as it was since Fx 4.

    Thanks for review.

    EDIT.

    Can you reproduce it on a clean profile too?
    Seems to work fine for me on Palemoon 24.

    But ok, this add-on fixes this issue for you. ;-)
  • One hundred million "Thank You" (s)!! I've been chasing this for 24 hours, after recent "upgrade" screwed up everything...
    Thanks for review.
  • No I am not on a nightly build - I think it was just update 23 that messed everything up with the bookmark button.
