Frequent incompatibilities Rated 3 out of 5 stars

While the extension is nice, it is quite difficult to get the correct version for your Thunderbird and OS.

I recently accidentally upgraded from Thunderbird (well, Icedove) 17 to 24.4 and had to upgrade Lightning as well, but neither the current version nor the recommended 2.6.4 would run correctly. One even prevented Icedove from launching without safe mode.

Like I said, there's a history of this, so once you get it working, don't touch it!

One Lightning version per Thunderbird version

I don't know about Icedove, but could you specify (via a real support channel like the newsgroups or emailing me mozilla@kewis.ch) why its not working for you, what error messages you get? The stock Thunderbird 24.4.0 and Lightning 2.6.4 run without issues for me and I've heard a lot of others confirming this.

Indeed we unfortunately have strict version compatibility due to the binary component we are using. Each major Thunderbird version needs a specific Lightning version. See https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Calendar/Calendar_Versions for more information.

Aucune version fonctionnelle avec icedove 24.4.0 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This extension makes thunderbird more usefull and more likely to outlook.
There is just an must have feature the project should add: the possibility to turn a task "done" by the alert window. When the alert window opens, the only feature you have is to disable ou postpone the alert. So if you want to turn an task "done" you have to go to tasks tab an select that specific task. It would be very quick to mark tasks as "done" in the alert window

This is certainly a useful add-on to have; maybe not with all the features of Outlook Calendar (which I use at work), but almost.

Usability Improvement 2 Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Agree with previous post on usability improvement: lacking direct file attachments is a BIG gap in Lightning. The solution proposed by the author (Filelink) is not feasible, at least not in my environment.
The other gap: there is no indication on the GUI whether an invitee has accepted, declined or tentativly accepted a meeting.

Sorry about not being able to directly attach files. If we just allow this now there will be massive performance issues and more complaints than thanks. Filelink is just a workaround, maybe just give it a try!

Re status information: I agree its a little hidden, but if you open the event dialog, click on invite attendees, then you should be able to see the status of other attendees for meetings you have organized. For those where you are invited just open the event dialog and you will see the icon in front of the name

Works in Ubuntu but not OpenSUSE. Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Have been trying to use Lightning with a single .default on all my Linux programs. Works in Ubuntu and Mint but not in OpenSUSE. The calendar outline shows grayed out. Cannot do anything with it. Can find nothing to resolve this problem.

Could you try (at least for testing), the stock Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ ? I suspect that there might be some issues with the distributions custom builds.

Hi all!

Very useful software to maintain meetings and tasks. But please add the ability to attach the files to the invitations. Must have thing for the companies!

Not via real attachments, but this should be possible when you use the Filelink feature of Thunderbird (Options > Attachments > Outgoing). If you don't want to use an online service, you can use a company DAV server with this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/webdav-for-filelink/

The missing addon!

@PhL38F: SeaMonkey and Lightning Rated 5 out of 5 stars

SM 2.23 works with Lightning 2.8b1. For the current SM 2.24 you need Lightning 2.9b1.

You can find the corresponding Lightning downloads here:

Compatibility issues solution Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I tried versions 2.6.4, 2.6.3 and 2.9b.1 and all resulted that it was not competitible with TB 27.3. I have windows 7 - 64bit and was very sad being unable to install this.

So I searched a lot on the internet, and found that I just needed to use another version. Reading the other reviews, it seems I am not the only one. As this review page is much easier to reach for finding a solution than the blog pages, I herewith suggest to use the following versions of Lightning for your Thunderbird version:

Thunderbird version 24.0 -> Use Lightning version 2.6
Thunderbird version 24.0.1 -> Use Lightning version 2.6.1
Thunderbird version 24.1.0 -> Use Lightning version 2.6.2
Thunderbird version 24.1.1 -> Use Lightning version 2.6.3
Thunderbird version 24.2.0 -> Use Lightning version 2.6.4
Thunderbird version 24.2.1 -> Use Lightning version 2.6.4.1
Thunderbird version 24.3.0 -> Use Lightning version 2.6.5

And for those who questioned like I was: the Thunderbird version can be found in Thunderbird menu > extra > about Thunderbird

This is copied from this webpage https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=940402 and worked well for me! So thanks Philippe for this information.

Have a nice day!

Perfect application Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is one the greatest add-ons for Thunderbird and makes Thunderbird a real Outlook alternative.

Works perfectly. Very useful to keep track of everything I need to do.

So far perfect tool. But in Thunderbird Portable since January there ist a crash when syncing googlecalendar.
File "deleted-sqlite" changes filesize very fast while thunderbird portable hangs.

It's painful to discover once the latest release of SeaMonkey got installed that Lightning isn't following up and is indeed broken. Why oh why isn't there a viable version for SeaMonkey 2.23 when it looks like there is work going already on on versions 2..24 and 2.25??!

Excellent !
je m'en sers tous les jours avec des agendas en provenance de différents clouds (google, owncloud) et ça tombe en marche à chaque fois. C'est la classe !

Merci aux devs pour ce Logiciel Libre de qualité.

Lightning Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The actual calendaring is pretty good, but the print out of ones calendar is very limited and not very useful. At one time there was a very useful add on called "fgprinters" that really solved this gap for me, but it has not been maintained for some time. Any chance the function in "fgprinters" could get added into Lightning itself?

Actually a very good plugin, but since upgrading my Owncloud-server to 6.0.0 Thunderbird (24.2.0) will freeze after about 30 seconds after startup, if an Owncloud-CalDav-calendar is used.
Thunderbird does not react any more and must be killed. Owncloud 6.0.0 ist not usable with Lightning (2.6.4).
The problem occurs on all my systems (Ubuntu and Windows 7 64 Bit).
I tested the versions down to 2.6.0.

The current version is incompatible with Thunderbird 24.0.1. Please help to update it to a compatible one.

Great Add-On Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The current version 2.6.4 works perfect and without any problems. I am using it on different systems (Ubuntu, Windows 7 and Windows XP), syncing with several OwnCloud (6.0.0a) calendars. The best feature is, that tasks can be displayed in the calendar view.Thank you for the great work!
