Damn good downloader. Rated 4 out of 5 stars
Love how I can choose whatever file I can save it as. Love how this actually saves files. Love how this is an actual downloader and not some sort of virus. The only problem I have with it is how the files save on your desktop rather than on your downloads, which is kinda annoying, but I can get around it. Same goes for the settings too; kinda annoying, but not impossible to work with. This is probably the best downloader I'll come across. I'm keeping it.
Does NOT download the "ORIGINAL" audio file from the video, but does do pretty much everything else it says. Rated 3 out of 5 stars
EDIT: Waitwaitwait, are you telling me that the audio in the video linked to below is not 320kbps? Are we not receiving 320kbps audio when we're streaming? If it's literally not possible to attain a 320kbps audio file, please let me know and I will change my rating accordingly.
Listen to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psSamm93uCE&t=32s
You cannot tell me that is 128kbps audio. No way, no how. Either let me have the full quality audio, or just be honest and tell me you can't. If I'm configuring something wrong, please explain how I should configure it so that I can download the best quality possible.
Absolutely terrible setting options Rated 1 out of 5 stars
You'd think that with all the unnecessary, finicky, nitpicky options this thing has, they would have MAYBE thought to move your download options across the little numbered pages that come up when you hit download, like putting videos on page 3, and audio on page 1. But no... If you want audio without the needless ffmpeg nonsense, you HAVE to click 3, then click the audio version you want.
No option to change it. No option to move it. You just have to deal with it. Ad infinitum. Tough luck if you wanted convenience.
Try something else if you don't like going bald from pulling your hair out in 3 days of trying to find a setting on the internet where someone else in human history ever thought they had the same problem until you find out no one else ever did and even Google doesn't understand your questions anymore and you must be the only one, and you can't help but feel alone because it seems like such an obvious thing, but clearly you must be the one who's insane not them, and you start to figure that since no one ever thought to brought it up the option must be in the settings somewhere, you just missed it, so you check it over and over, and over andover over and over, an over and over,, and over nd over... until you end up in a schizophrenic pile of feces and mindlessness BABBLING. Babbling... babbling....

I wanted mp3-extracting of Youtube videos with minimal loss and hassle. Hassle I had, at least to get the settings right, since I wanted to avoid further conversion on my part (by default the add-on is meant to extract the original files from Youtube, which obviously aren't mp3), but once I tuned it to my liking, now it automatically gets both videos and mp3 tracks for me. All others fail in quality, power or function. 5-star indeed.

First one that works with 1080p. Don't grt confused when it says 1080p only. It also gets audio. Need to figure out how to extract a higher quality though. Thanks.
Excellent tool, works great Rated 5 out of 5 stars
This tool is excellent. The interface is great and it's very slick. It works great, it's open source, and you don't have to restart to install it. I recommend it.
Open source, no-nonsense YouTube downloader Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I've tried lots of YouTube download software and this is the best I've found. It's great. Open source (source code on GitHub), no spyware, straightforward UI. Worked perfectly on the 30 videos I've downloaded. Tested in Linux & Windows 7. I recommend it to my non-techie friends.
Also get its companion add-on: Media Converter and Muxer
Best Youtube downloader that supports 1080p Rated 5 out of 5 stars
It can download 1080p videos. Also can extract mp3 audio from video clips.

This program will only download the video or the audio; not both

Don't indicate published date in the file name while downloading video. That is mean that option [published_date] in the file-naming patern didn't work.
Please add support for palemoon Rated 3 out of 5 stars

OUT FREAK-EN UNDERSTANDING. I REALIZE THERE IS A MILLION AH WELL PLUS OR MINUS A FEW THOUSAND VIDEO DOWN LOADRERS. HELL IT SEEMS THAT WAY. BUT WHO THE HELL CARES, WHAT MATTERS TO ME IS THAT THIS ONE DOES WHAT I NEED IT TO DO. E.G. SOMETIMES I JUST WANT THE VIDEO AND AUDIO SOUND. OFTEN TIMES I JUST WANT THE AUDIO . HELL THAT'S AWESOME. THAT'S A FEATURE OTHER DOWN LOADERS DON'T HAVE. I'VE LOOKED.IF THERE'S ONE OUT THERE SO FREAK-EN WHAT. I'M A KNUCKLEHEAD FOR WASTING MY TIME. I'M NOT SEARCHING ANYMORE. WHY SHOULD I. TO DO SO WOULD BE LUDICROUS . THIS VIDEO DOWN LOADER SHOULD BE THE STANDARD BY WHICH ALL OTHER JIVE ASS DOWN LOADERS ARE MEASURED. I'M OUT. pablo
Best YouTube Video Downloader by Far Rated 5 out of 5 stars
This beats other YouTube video downloaders hands-down. It works, it can get you 1080p video and seamlessly add AAC audio to it (because for some unfathomable reason YouTube separates 1080p video and audio streams, so they have to be downloaded separately and combined with FFMpeg - which this add-on does automatically), and there are no annoying ads.
My main complaints with the add-on have been fixed with the 0.4.5 update so I've changed my review to 5 stars. Unfortunately a new issue has arisen, but is the fault of changes made by YouTube. For some stupid reason YouTube has stopped providing a separate 256kbps CBR AAC audio track and the highest quality audio now available to mux with 1080p MP4 videos is 128kbps CBR AAC. However 720p video+audio streams still contain ~192kbps VBR AAC audio. But since YouTube doesn't stream 1080p video+audio streams, your options are 1080p with 128kbps audio or 720p with 192kbps audio. Hopefully YouTube changes this soon. But until they do, here are the features I would like to see the developers of this add-on integrate:
1) Come up with a way to extract the audio from the 720p stream and remux it with the 1080p video stream.
2) Add a batch download feature (e.g., ability to select multiple videos from a playlist or search page)
3) Not a feature, just a suggestion: when opening the in-video download interface, some of the options say "video only." This can be confusing since it actually means that the add-on will download the video and audio streams separately and combine them, not just the video by itself.
Hands down the best video downloader Rated 4 out of 5 stars
I can only compare it to Video DownloadHelper, the previous reference I had when it comes to video downloading, specially from YouTube. I have them both installed, as VDH still does a great job 'cause it's still more mature and its broad range of covered sites is also second to none.
I prefer YouTube Video and Audio Downloader for YouTube, however. The devs did a great job on specializing it. On that matter, I really like that:
* the current downloads are named after the video title (helps on organizing multiple downloads, VDH calls them "media*")
* it relies on great and FREE FFMPEG to do some of the manipulation, while VDH relies on an unregistered libav (it's very good also, but lack of a $29 registration gives you a big QR sign on a video corner)
* its UI is more beautiful and quick - ok, that's low priority :-)
Only problem I've experienced so far is that, due to the way YouTube loads videos, the Download button may not appear most of the time - that really sucks. I worked around that by having the toolbar button available (and first time I thought about it, I also didn't find it - had to wait between some restarts for it to appear again), so I can quickly use its popup. Worked around that almost permanently by using the Quick Download hotkey (as most of the time, I download using the highest quality available), but I know that won't cover all of the cases.
I agree with most of the review thkbrew89 has done below, maybe except for item 2, as I didn't find any problems with that - so far.
Keep up the good work, guys, and thanks for such a very good extension!
