The speech is far better than the speech in google translate. Doesn't miss words (like google), and handles commas, and other punctuation correctly.
The speech download speed is slow for long text, can you improve download speed ?
tho voice does not seem robotic! its great! I can download the voice and hear the text without straining my eyes
I got his add-on because I am a college student online. I have a hard time focusing and being able o have my research read to me makes things so much easier. I will donate as soon as i get paid. thank you for making this!
Worked well for what it is, but I will not use it because I am Brazilian and listening to the text in Portuguese European is extremely unpleasant for me, just as I would be speakers of that language if the situation were the reverse. It should be to treat Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese as different languages. Many countries speak Portuguese European, but Brazil is bigger than all of them together. Both should have the same importance
Não funciona no meu idioma :(
When I downloaded and installed this add on, it opened a SPAM ADVERTISEMENT for some trash website that I won't give undue coverage of. The developer wouldn't have thrown that it if s/he wasn't being paid for it or wasn't affiliated with that website in some way, so that's already a HUGE red flag. When I tried to use it, an external window opened up...and it had a big old paypal "give me money" link on it, which annoyed me. What actually made me mad though was the fact that it connected to a slow online service to preform its task. In my case it didn't even work, but that's not why I'm mad.
I'm mad because if I wanted some online text to speech service I would look up the several of them online on google and none of them would restart my browser or load pop up ads in my face. (well, most of them wouldn't anyway, but at least they're not integrated in my browser)
The Fox Vox program is a better alternative that works offline using the MBROLA voice system. Sadly it's locked out of Firefox for no reason by it's autocratic add on verification system, so I cannot actually recommend it unless you want to downgrade to last year's Firefox.
EDIT: WHEN I WENT TO UNINSTALL IT I COULDN'T HELP BUT NOTICE THAT THERE WAS A BRAND NEW ADD ON, SOMETHING TO DOWNLOAD "SHIELD RECIPES". SKETCHY!! If an add on needs another add on for whatever reason, you for sure need to mention in on its description.
EDIT: very unhappy with the update for Firefox 56. NO OPTION TO DOWNLOAD the audio for later listening. Will not update my other computers for Firefox 56 on 64-bit. Will no longer donate either, until this problem is fixed. (Their Chirpy equiv for Chrome is much worse.) I would gladly pay for a standalone for browsers and for Android.
The UK female voice is the best of any I've found anywhere, Ivona's 'Amy'. Only docked one star cuz the male voice is the same as used in Go Animate, not quite good enough; but ViJo's UK male voice in his Speechify is far better.
BUT THIS program itself is better. You paint the text, right-click or use the add-on bar or the icon in Customize (which you can move anywhere), to 'Speak It'. Some minutes pass while the thing renders, and when the voice starts, you;'ll notice you can DOWNLOAD the thing as mp3. Max running is about 90 minutes. You can convert a pdf to txt and it reads best that way. I did it with John Skylitzes (medieval historian of the Byz empire) and many scholarly docs. So I can lay back and listen, think. VALUABLE, this program.
I use it a lot, sample here: http://brainout.net/frankforum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=706&p=3598#p3598
I hope ViJo will upgrade this, instead of using Speechify, as frankly this thingy is a gold mine. Or should be.
I contributed, and will keep on doing so, especially if the UK male voice in Speechify is ported to Text To Voice.
NOTHING like it on the internet, I've been searching for years.
This extension is so useful to me and the voice is very natural. For some reason (I have Firefox 53.0.3 ) recently, I can't see the download button anymore, but I just click on the lower border of the window where it used to be, then it downloads. Everything else about this extension is highly recommendable. Of course, the buffering speed could be faster, but it's worth the wait.
my previous review I said you couldnt save the speech and there was no stop button but there is. It opens in a small window behind other windows which i never knew it was there until now. This addon is the best SIMPLE text to speech software I have ever used
right after installing this addon my browser opened on restart a "babylon software" url. Instantly deleted, now I need to check my computer for other malwares, highly unrecommended addon.
It used to work before Firefox 50, but after the updates, it is kinda broken now.
It takes forever to load and speak a small range of text, must be horribly long for a 500 word passage that used to take a second or two.
It worked initially when I downloaded this, then it stopped working. Tried reloading the browser, but does not work either.
Might stick to ImTranslator's TTS, but I liked the voice of the TTV app more. Though none are ever as classic as Microsoft Sam!
Do better error handling.
It sounds very realistic but takes very long time to start speaking and sometimes wont speak at all..
As a first sight, I was amazed by the natural voice of the woman voice. I believe this addon is really a promising one!! Excellent job guys :-)
Me gustaría que dieran istrucciones de cómo cambiar el idioma, ya que quiero usar el español pero está en ingles y no sé cómo cambiarlo.
It's specified that application supports Russian, but it doesn;t work. It uses English by default.
Definitly 5 stars ! It's natural speaking voice even in a long text. And most of all it can save to a mp3 file.Very like it.
Thank You ,Great Job !
not working at all on ubuntu 16.04 hp laptop.
