I've used RES a long time. It is so useful that Reddit without RES is like PB&J without the PB&J. Yet, this is the first time I'm writing a review for this addon. I'm writing this review only now because the developer has impressed me with a demonstration of his/her own iron balls.

Upon discovery of a serious security flaw, the developer had a few choices. Keep hush and quietly patch it, warn people but continue to let the flaw be exploitable, or protect the millions of users of RES by making RES unusable and forcing people to update immediately.

From a public relations point of view, the third choice would be disastrous. Imagine logging onto Windows and having your screen locked until you download an update from Microsoft. There would be riots in Redmond and it would convince many people to jump over to Linux very quickly! And indeed, the (ahem) lazier readers have screeched their awkward cacophony of criticisms about this choice.

But from a security point of view, no other choice is acceptable. Neither keeping quiet nor warnings will help protect RES's users against a clever, malicious enemy. And especially not one with access to a social network where data can spread like a wildfire. Like a match in a propane store, there is no other acceptable solution but to extinguish the flame.

So bravo, developer. You've made the right choice. I know I'm only a whisper in the wind compared to these other reviews, but I hope that this review provides a little warmth after replying to the cold, unsympathetic masses.

thanks for the kind words... the influx of 1-star reviews has been somewhat disheartening, so your post means a lot -- appreciate it!

I've posted details on the vulnerability to /r/RESAnnouncements in case you're interested in reading more about it.

Must have for browsing reddit, but why is this version not being updated?

the alert tells you to see /r/Enhancement - because we had to put out an emergency release. AMO takes several weeks to review addons, which is why we provide you a direct download

Thread is here:

new version don't seem to work very well, have never had a problem before, and have loved this addon and have been using it forever, but something went wrong somewhere since the previous update and the new one. issue is .... The version of Reddit Enhancement Suite you are using has a bug which makes expanding posts insecure to use. Please update Reddit Enhancement Suite to continue using post expandos. Please visit /r/Enhancement for more information. when updated same thing happens, might be a bug. looking forward to a working version again. " update those having problems such as i was, for some reason the normal way of updating the addon is not right you have to go to the subreddit or to the main site, very inconvenient and annoying in fact. but after jumping trough hoops i is working great again. this should be mentioned to avoid confusion, but ehhh whatever" minus one star for lazyness. but great addon none the less

we can't force AMO to approve the update faster, which is why you have to manually update. there's nothing we can do about that, sorry.

I love res, but I am not certain about why the developer has chosen to stop keeping the official firefox addon page version up to date. I know I can go to the subreddit to get the up to date one, but this whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

the developer hasn't "chosen" not to keep it up to date.

it's been submitted to AMO, and needs to be approved. It's about #85 in line right now.

Go visit /r/Enhancement and read the instructions.

Makes redditing much easier. Couldn't be a redditor without.

For those who want the latest go down to the version history so you don't have to wait.

If you wanted my wife I'd let you have her.

That's how awesome this add-on is.

Normally satisfied with it. Newest update doesn't work for me though. My saved subreddits, preferences, and night mode all disappear and I get the default reddit. Once I re-install it, all my preferences come back. The problem is that once I close Firefox, everything goes back to default when I go on Reddit again so I have to repeat it.

have you sought support?

have you posted to /r/RESIssues to report this bug and let our support team assist you?

sounds like you've got something installed that's wrecking your local storage data - do you run "privacy" software like CCleaner, BetterPrivacy, Ghostery, etc?

Very useful, but.. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I'm generally very happy with RES, but 4.3.1.2 (updated automatically today) reset everything to default and cleared all my filters. I've had better days.

Hey, really sorry you lost your settings. That shouldn't happen from a traditional update. Nothing in RES's code touches settings between updates, so it could be a Firefox problem.

Check out the top of /r/Enhancement (see big blue box) for a link with details about backing up and restoring your Firefox data. If you happen to have it backed up, or you're on an OS that lets you revert files/folders to previous versions, you may be able to recover that info!

For some reason, the latest version is affecting widget window sizes on my Netvibes page, making extra white space appear around them. I really want to continue using RES, but I'm having to disable it until this gets fixed...

Ulasan ini dibuat untuk versi pengaya (4.3.0.4) sebelumnya.

apologies, we have a fix for this coming very soon. RES had to use an unorthodox method of stylesheet insertion to avoid the "Flash of unstyled content" for users who use Night Mode (the white-first-then-flash-to-black annoyance), and apparently that caused this unanticipated issue with a few sites...

a fix is forthcoming!
