Window Master (formerly: Monitor Master) adds graphical controls to the context menu's for toolbars, tabs and links. These controls depict your screen(s) plus all open Firefox windows, thus enabling you to position and merge browser windows, to move and merge tabs, and to open links in other windows and on other screens by a mere mouse click/drag.
In order to make the positioning of windows really simple and fast, Window Master subdivides your screen(s) into regions. By clicking or dragging in a graphical control, you may select a combination of regions as a target location. Alternatively, you may target a Firefox browser window by clicking a single screen region that overlaps with a depicted browser window. The two different kinds of targets (regions and windows) combine with the three standard context menu's to enable six different actions (see Screenshot 1):
1) From the context menu of a toolbar, you may:
> a) Merge a browser window with some other browser window.
> b) Move a browser window to a different location.
2) From the context menu of a tab, you may:
> a) Move a tab to some other browser window.
> b) Create a new window from a tab at a specified location.
3) From the context menu of a link, you may:
> a) Open a link in a tab in any browser window.
> b) Open a link in a new window at a specified location.
Note that, in the graphical controls, blue indicates repositioning, red indicates merging and green indicates opening.
Several options are available through the Window Master toolbar panel. These options apply to Window Master functionality only!
The panel text was translated to the following languages: De, En, Fr, Nl, Pt, Sr and Zh.
Please note that your screens need to be configured as an extended desktop for Window Master to function correctly. Window Master identifies your screens when Firefox starts, when you click its toolbar button, and when your mouse enters a graphical control.
> Once you are used to Window Master, you may use the options to hide superfluous context menu items (Open Link in New Tab/Window and Move to New Window).
> Users of Private Tab probably want to check the option 'Allow merging of private and non-private tabs'. In other cases, this option has no effect.
> Users of AMD Eyefinity devices may use the region options to compensate bezels.
> The snap-to-grid feature is incompatible with TileTabs.
> Support for Thunderbird was removed but might be restored once Thunderbird supports CustomizableUI.jsm. The last compatible version remains functional, but you need to prevent it from updating.
The following improvements will be made when sufficiently many users make significant donations:
> Integration with other popular tab extensions.
> Tools and functions for groups of tabs / windows.
> Drawing of window content in multi-process Firefox.
