very good

Activation/Deactivation button keeps disappearing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This add-on is very good, but what reason the navigation toolbar icon keeps disappearing for? Every time I start Firefox I have to click the "Move" button in the add-on's options. It's very annoying. Version 0.9.4 on Firefox 25.0.1. Thanks.

You are probably using another addon which does not use the api to add its button to the toolbar properly. (eg. Ghostery)
Currently there is not much I can do about it, but with firefox 29 there will be a new api which fixes these problems.

Thank you. What I was looking for. For developers, it is very necessary.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! One cannot always escape Adobe Flash Player but one should always try because Flash is truly crap. With due respect to John (see below), that is the behavior that I was looking for: I WANT web sites to switch to HTML5 whenever possible and they generally will not if Flash is activated. So, I installed this add-on, deactivated Flash, and now enjoy the videos on the New York Times web site in HTML5. When I must use Flash, I click the FlashDisable icon on the toolbar (and immediately click it off again when finished with the page). This saves having to go to the add-ons menu, select plug-ins, and activate/deactivate Flash every time. (A screen refresh may be necessary after toggling, however). Great add-on. Thank you very much, Klemens!

EDIT: I should add something. I have seen people review similar add-ons, saying "Why do you need this? Firefox now allows setting Flash to 'Ask to activate' and even remembers the setting for each web site." True, but that still does not accomplish what I was trying to do. I want Flash to be OFF unless absolutely necessary. When it is deactivated, some web sites default to HTML 5 or Silverlight automatically. That is what I want. Without this add-on, if Flash is set to "Ask to activate," the NY Times web site merely prompts you to activate it and I still have to turn Flash off altogether to get the site to play HTML5. Well, now I can do the trick with one click of the FlashDisable icon (and a screen refresh, perhaps). Bravo!

Youtube defaults to html5 Rated 2 out of 5 stars

As mentioned in the other review youtube immediately loads the video in html5 when flash is blocked. What is the solution? I am not in youtube html5 trial.

Ulasan ini dibuat untuk versi pengaya (0.9.3) sebelumnya.

I am sorry, but I am not sure what your problem is.
Videos on youtube without monetization will always play in html5 if flash is not enabled, regardless of whether you are in the html5 trail or not. This is default youtube behaviour and has nothing to do with my addon.

Maybe I can help you if you tell me what you are trying to achieve?

Re-post Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Got your mail Klemens Schölhorn, And checked this add-on again and found that I am using youtube html5 addon. So when I go to youtube site it gets html5 player automatically, for that reason it did not work for me. Sorry I should have checked it thoroughly before posting comment. It works for me now.
#(Previous post- Does not work on Firefox 23.1 tested on youtube.)

Could you please be more specific? What does not work? Have you reload the page after enabling flash (there is a setting to do this automatically, too)? You can contact me via email if you want.
It works for me (and thousands of other users) on every firefox version since 19 on windows and linux. I just tested it again on firefox 23.0.1 and it worked well on youtube.

/edit: Tanks for retesting and updating your review!

Great addon, but there's a problem in Firefox Nightly (26.0a1 as of Aug. 20). The Disable Flash icon is crossed out and a tooltip says "Flash could not be found". I changed the plugin name to exactly to how it shows up in the plugin settings, and also tried the 0.9.4 beta, both didn't change anything. It works fine in Aurora (25.0a2) though, so I suspect that some change in Firefox 26.0a1 broke it.

Caused by a bug in the current nightly, will be fixed with one of the next nightlies. (See your e-mail for more details)

Edit: Fixed in Nightly 2013-08-23. ;-)

I think Mozilla has done a good job on the nightly versions with the 'allow now' or 'allow and remember' options for the plugins, which will render this add-on unnecessary.

Edit: yo, thanks for the reply, I saw that thing on the permissions tab too. :)

You my be right, the new permission system looks promising.
But I am thinking about integrating this into my addon to allow the change of these options with a single click to a button, which would also allow these setting per domain.
Because when you clicked "allow and remember", to deactivate this behaviour you would have to open the site information window, find the right tab, etc... ;-)

Great Job! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The app I was looking for!Not only block flash, but really enable/disable it. Really cool to enjoy YouTube in HTML5 in combination with the "YouTube Flash to HTML5" addon (see Sukant Garg).

Thanks! ;-)
I have also made an addon like "YouTube Flash to HTML5": https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-all-html5/
(the new version is not yet reviewed by mozilla, so has to be installed manually)

The best extension for dealing with Flash content on a page. However, with FF22, it quit shutting off the Flash elements instantly. Now you have to recycle the page. At least on my system.

It's not just you, I also noticed this behaviour.
However I think this is rather useful: If I have to enable Flash on a site I can immediately disable it again, so when I open new tabs, they open without flash, but I can still return to the flash-tab and use its applets.

Still can't see the button Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The previous version (0.9.1) works. I can see the button. But with this latest one, I can't find it anywhere, and I tried your suggestions but no luck. It's doubtful that it is a possible compatibility issue with using a 64-bit browser, seeing as with your previous version the button is visible. I'm using Pale Moon x64.

Sorry, didn't know you were using PaleMoon.
There is a bug in the current SDK 1.14 which my addon in 0.9.3 uses, that causes it to fail on browsers other than Firefox and Firefox Mobile. This is fixed already and will probably be shipped in FF 22 (next week). I think PM will also ship the new SDK Version 1.15, but I am not sure.
You can use version 0.9.1 and disable updates for this addon in its settings until then.

Nice Addon, working fine thus far.
It makes Flash Bug # 3223393 a little less pestering.

I have a suggestion, though. I'd like to be able to configure a default setting for flash to be deactivated on startup. So maybe you could implement an opt-in to "Deactivate flash on close" or something?

Edit: Good job! And fast. :-)

Thank you for your suggestion. This sounds like a good idea to me and I will try to implement it in the next version.
Edit: Feature implemented!

I haven't really had any trouble with this add on! I would like to be able to turn flash off on "separate" tabs though, it messes things up.

Thank you for your review!
Like the description says, this addon completely disables the flash plugin.
If you only like to enable flash for some sites, then you should try the build-in firefox "function" click_to_play. It disables all plugins (also java etc) by default and allows you to temporarily or permanently enable plugins on a per-site basis. (and even single applets on a site!)

Feature NoScripts lacks. very nice :)

Would it be possible to bind granted flash to the active tab only? So that if you switch to another tab, the plugin to be turned off again automatically, and the browser to always start without Flash; or to whitelist certain sites?

Ulasan ini dibuat untuk versi pengaya (0.8.5) sebelumnya.

Thank you!
The possibility to allow plugins only for certain sites is already build into firefox, at least concerning the use of plugins at all. Just set the value of "plugins.click_to_play" in about:config to true, and you can specify for every site if it is allowed to use plugins. (either temporarily or permanently)

I really like the functionality... Flash simply acts as if it's not installed. Perfect! But as others have reported, I find that the enable/disable button keeps disappearing from the toolbar, pretty much at random. (It doesn't appear in the Customize menu, so it's still 'installed'... it's just not displaying.) I also wish FlashDisable could kill Flash in memory. This would probably be very tough to do, but you need to bear in mind that if you toggle Flash 'Off' after viewing Flash content, the Adobe plug-in will still be running (albeit inaccessible). Even with these limitations, FlashDisable seems to be the best of the Flash-toggle add-ons. If the vanishing-button bug ever gets fixed, I'd eagerly give it a 5 out of 5.

Thank you for your compliment!
I think cleaning up memory is something firefox or the plugin itself should do and it seams this is already working: If no website is running, the two flash processes (under win64) keep running for some minutes (seems sensible to me, because there is a high probability that you will view more than one flash applet in a row, e.g. while browsing youtube) and then exit.
Concerning the disappearing of the icon: I have tested the addon on several machines with various versions of firefox and have not found anything that could explain this behaviour. If you want, you can contact me via email so we can try to find a solution.

Works nice but.. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

having an issue with the browser icon which disappears suddenly so I can't turn on / turn off flash.

Update: Klemens, Thanks for the kind reply and its working fine now.

Ulasan ini dibuat untuk versi pengaya (0.8.4) sebelumnya.

Do you mean that the icon of the addon is disappearing? Does it disappear after you've done anything like for example closing a tab or window?
Can you re-add it using the toolbar customisation? (http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-firefox-controls-buttons-and-toolbars)
