It appears that the AI-powered tab grouping of Firefox keeps this extension from being effective.
You need to turn off 'Use AI to suggest tabs and a name for tab groups' in Settings > General.

The extension discards tabs more than Tab Unloading, a function of Firefox and is more flexible.
I still needs it.

    I'm very frustrated with this extension. When I installed it, I was so hopeful that it would lower the memory load of my many tabs. I tweaked the various options to get the performance I wanted (with Gemini's help). But I made the mistake of turning on "Change favicon of discarded tabs", which causes a Z icon to appear on discarded tabs -- a feature I decided I did not like. Do not do this! Because you will never be able to turn it off again. You can easily uncheck the option, but the Z icons will never stop appearing. I tried deleting the extension and then re-installing it. I tried deleting the three favicon files in the profile. I tried turning off Firefox sync for add-ons. I tried everything Gemini and I could think of, for hours. But I've finally given up and deleted the extension. I feel like I've damaged my Firefox installation by installing Auto Tab Discard. Will a Firefox refresh fix this issue? I don't know. If the developer is reading this, please post a solution, and I'll give it a test.

    Frees up space taken up by tabs. I have been using this extension for a long time and on multiple browsers. Highly recommended!

    Using with Firefox 151.0.1 (64-bit) on Linux Mint 22.3 with 16 Gb of ram. Generally run about 15 tabs, with many known for eating ram (e.g., voice.google.com). On average, app will reduce consumed amount of ram from 5 gb, down to 2 gb if all tabs are asleep "aka discarded". very much worth it.

    SO FAR SO GOOD, WORKED IMMEDIATELY "OUT OF THE BOX" WISH WE COULD WHITELIST LEFT ALIGNED PAGE FORMAT VS JUSTIFIED FORMAT. THAT'S JUST A LITTLE NUANCE, BUT THE REST IS GREAT👍

    I use this extension regulary and its the best out there it doesnt get in the way and the shortcut for relaoading all tabs in the current window is superb. will contribute in the near future.
