DimDoc for Firefox Autor: Tristan

DimDoc is a specialized browser extension that instantly transforms blinding white PDF documents into a soothing, eye-friendly dark mode. Designed for researchers, students, and professionals who spend hours reading formal documents, DimDoc bypasses clunky CSS filters to deliver a seamless reading experience tailored for both daytime and nighttime usage.

Whether you are opening PDFs from the web or your local hard drive, DimDoc routes them into a custom viewer, giving you full control over your document's visual presentation.

Key Features

Instant Dark Mode Toggle: Switch document backgrounds and text colors between light and dark themes with a single click from the user-friendly popup.

Seamless Interception: Automatically intercepts and opens both online and local PDF files within DimDoc's custom, distraction-free viewer.

Persistent Settings: Your light/dark preference is securely saved locally to your device and applied automatically the next time you open a PDF.

Full Navigation Tools: Retains all essential PDF features, including scalable zooming, search, and page navigation.

Important Limitations

To ensure the best possible rendering performance, please note the following constraints:

No Scanned PDFs: DimDoc is explicitly built for standard, born-digital text documents (like textbooks, journals, and newsletters). It does not support legacy scanned image documents.

No iFrames: The extension will not intercept or apply dark mode to PDFs embedded inside webpage iframes.

Privacy First

Zero Data Collection: All document parsing and color calculation happen completely locally on your machine. DimDoc does not collect personal data, track your browsing, or transmit document contents to external servers.

This is an unofficial Firefox port of DimDoc (https://github.com/jefrinissac/DimDoc) by Jefrin Issac, which is available for Chrome and Edge. PDFs are displayed with Mozilla's PDF.js.
