En détails …

I am a long-time Netscape and Mozilla advocate and am honored to be accepted in both Netscape and Mozilla Champion organizations. I have both authored and resurrected many defunct add-ons over the years starting with the original Netscape Theme Contest winner, Sky Pilot, to others like Toy Factory, Mozillium, original Mozilla Modern, &c.

Outside of Mozilla, my career spanned from working in aerospace in the EWS/ECM field and then in the CAD/CAM field.

Mes critiques

Go Parent Folder

Love on first use Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

It's a super extension and absolutely essential for anyone having to manage many bookmarks over many sub-folders.

Cette critique est pour une version précédente du module (2.7).

Persona Switcher

Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

Very nice add-on. It helped a lot while debugging my themes Simple Green and Simply Blue) Personas capability.

Cette critique est pour une version précédente du module (1.6).

HootBar

Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

Fulfills all my expectations, thanks! Thanks to this I no longer need a desktop Twitter app.

Gladly made the $5 contribution.

Cette critique est pour une version précédente du module (2.8.1).

Sky Pilot Classic for Firefox 3.5

Ripoff! Noté 1 sur 5 étoiles

This is an unauthorized port of the theme. The author simply disregarded the license contained in the original theme file:

"The original artwork may not be redistributed, or used for any other purpose without the expressed permission of the author. The original artwork is not covered by any open-source license and cannot be distributed under such license. In addition, this package may not be modified and re-released under its name at any time."

Irrespective of what the author may claim, this is an illegal use of my IP rights.

Twitbin - Twitter Sidebar for Firefox

Nice feature, needs polish Noté 3 sur 5 étoiles

I like the basic functionality of the extension but it has several flaws needing fixing before it can become a worthwhile tool. I will follow-up this review by sending the flaw list to their support channel.

PROs

o display of tweets in sidebar is organized and useful

o character counter for tweet entry is a nice touch

CONs

o no way to hide/remove the Twitbin button on the toolbar

o the first tweet is displayed as soon as it's entered but subsequent tweets are not displayed until one exist and reloads Firefox

o It doesn't afford auto-login so one needs to login each time they open the the browser.

o Opening a new window displays a blank twitbin sidebar without any toolbar buttons. Closing and then reopening the twitbin sidebar seems to fix the problem.

Hide Unvisited

Very Nice Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

This extension along with the oldbar extension and the about:config override:

browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped = true

returns my URLbar list display to something that is not so unpleasing. Although, I must agree with many of the other comments that being able to disable to do this ought to be an checkbox override in the Options panel.

oldbar

One line, one URL rocks! Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

This extension, along with the about:config browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped=true override afford a much more judicious use of the URLbar footprint. Without it, Fx3 usage would have been much less pleasant.

Thanks for the extension.

Netstripe

A wonderful theme contribution Noté 4 sur 5 étoiles

Up-front acknowledgments: I'm a Netscape Champion member and receive no monetary compensation what-so-ever.

This theme is a wonderful addition to the Firefox community.

It's large (24bit) and small (16bit) icons make it an ideal theme for those who prefer having small button profiles for providing additional space for the location/search bars or for adding additional buttons. The small icons are especially appreciated for those who use extensions like AiOS that provide for a vertical sidebar.

Another area of space-saving compaction is butting the Back/Forward buttons together (sans dropmarkers) and paying extra attention to detail to provide fully-formed versions when "icons and text" mode is selected.

The aqua buttons against a subtle bi-level gray background make for a very crisp and clean design.

The professionally-crafted images also provide an intuitive feel for the button representations.

The initial version isn't without its faults, though. One, the search engine icon gets stretched for non-16bit icons like that of Ask (something the default Firefox theme has in common) and the search engine drop icon drop marker background looks odd. Interestingly enough, these problem don't exist in the theme's native environment, Netscape 9.

Another flaw that doesn't exist in the Netscape 9 version of the theme has to do with the intrinsic combining of Reload/Stop buttons. When a page is loading, both buttons are displayed; whereas, when its loaded, only the reload button is rendered. It works properly in their native browser where there is always only one button displayed, Reload with no activity and Stop when page is loading.

While there's nothing wrong with them using their logo for the throbber, I'm used to associating their throbber logo with their browser rather than the theme. I'd prefer they use another generic throbber or simply keep the default Firefox theme's throbber and use the theme's preview image in the Add-ons Theme Manager display to display their logo.

In summary, while the theme is not without flaws, they are minor in scope and the overall usability and look of this theme is superb.
