Praise for Github Support +AiOS Homepage +Users Who Bother to Read Them Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

@Jojosaurus and so many users who seem to ignore the developer's link to the bug reporting site, where they could look for existing reports and solutions to their problems..

These problems can be quickly fixed, as described in several people's previous "reviews" here and, more importantly, in several places in existing bug reports on the Github bug reporting site.

1) **Disable** the setting "Enable Sidebar Collapsing"
2) Enable the 'Sidebar Grippy' and use it, if required, to open and/or resize the AiOS sidebar.
3) Enable the 'Sidebar Switch' and use it, if required, to open the AiOS sidebar and/or 'AiOS Sidebar Toolbar'.

For details on how to do all those, please see the existing bug report:

sidebar tabs do not open at all · Issue #111 · AddonLab/AiOS · GitHub

https://github.com/AddonLab/AiOS/issues/111

(The Github site is the correct place for all AiOS bug reports)

See also: the AiOS extension homepage (support site) as linked to on the main AiOS page here.

The 'FAQ's, 'Features' and 'Screenshots' accessible from that site's toolbar are extremely helpful.

Please also note that AiOS 0.7.29/30 do not support the options to immediately open panels in new windows or new tabs instead of in the sidebar.

However, to do that with panels already open in the sidebar, you may still use 'Shift+Click' and 'Ctrl+Click' on the double-headed arrow in the AiOS sidebar header.

Version 0.7.29 emergency fix works for me Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

Version 0.7.29

Firstly, thanks very much indeed, eXXile, for making a window to make 0.7.29. As an emergency fix for the FF48.0 AiOS problem, it works for me, with the proviso you state under 'Notice' in 'Version Information'. More of that in a moment. At least it allowed me to finally update to FF48.0, which was on hold between Win 10 and Win 10 Anniversary torment sessions.

Next: @throkr:
(a) If you are in full-screen mode, try making life simpler for the moment by changing to normal mode.
(b) Have you made sure that "Sidebar Switch" and "Sidebar Grippy" are both enabled/ticked/checked in FF Menu - 'View'? Once they are, if you can see them, try clicking.
(c) Have you tried the 'AiOS toggle' button? (When you hover over it, it shows tooltip text "Toggle elements controlled by All-in-One Sidebar")?

and, of course, the usual questions: What operating system? Have you tried AiOS by itself (no other extensions or themes)?

@ralmontana and other interested users:

Version 0.7.29 is clearly an emergency fix to make AiOS in FF 48.0 do what it's about - ie show things in the sidebar panel.

For me, in FF48.0 x64 on Win 10 x64, it does that and enabled me to move on to FF48.0, which I had held back for this.

So it is a very welcome arrival.

So far, all functions *in the sidebar* seem to work for me as they did in FF47.0.1 with AiOS 0.7.29.

However (well, it is an emergency fix..), as eXXile warned us:

*No* AiOS facilities to display panels in new Windows or Tabs will work.

That includes
AiOS Options settings,
holding 'Shift'/'Ctrl' while clicking the chosen button on the AiOS toolbar (you'll see that the extended tooltips are absent in 0.7.29)
using the double headed arrow in the AiOS sidebar header.

By and large, I can live with that until (soon, I very gently pray) eXXile comes up with a follow-up to fix the fix :)

For me, there are two problem areas, for which, fortunately, there are circumventions.

1) The 'Page Info' button (hovering over it shows the tooltipt text "Display extensive information about a web page");
Because of a pre-existing and known AiOS bug, displaying that panel in the sidebar shows no information.
The circumvention was to use AiOS facilities (Settings or other) to display in a new window (?or tab?), which, in the circumstances, is currently impossible.

CIRCUMVENTION for the missing circumvention. A little tedious, but:
When a page is displayed, click on its icon in the 'Location' (address) bar.
In the resulting panel, click on the right-hand arrow (top right in the panel)
In the resulting panel, click on "More Information".

If I do all that I see all the usual page information in a new window.

2) The 'Error Console' (hovering over it shows the tooltipt text "Open the Error Console, which tracks problems with source code");
That displays fully and correctly in the sidebar
but I find that, for ease of use when viewing a web page and associated console messages, it can be useful to view the messages in a new window.

CIRCUMVENTION: Use the 'Browser Console' Instead.
Menu Path: FF Menu - 'Tools' - 'Web Developer' - 'Browser Console'
but there is a much quicker route by keyboard shortcut 'Ctrl-Shift-J')

mPage

Thank Goodness for MPage 0.7.11 Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

Thank you very much indeed for the FUELless update to MPage. I was afraid I would have to manage without this extremely useful extension.

Nothing else I know would allow me to see all my main news/rss feeds spread out in columns on one page, like the index in a book, with each feed having its own block, with its title, as a section header, followed by the list of single-line links to its current items/stories.

That way, once a day, at least, I can quickly glance through all those feeds, on just that one page, to check for new items of interest. For each of those, a single click will open the appropriate page in a new, background tab, ready for me to read when I wish.

Nothing else gives such a compact, clear and efficient index display, coupled with such quick and easy access to the indexed information.

MPage also gives me the option of having more than one page, in the form of its own tabs, each containing sets of feeds. So I also have one page with always automatically up-to-date lists of various BBC music "podcasts" and each link there allows me to directly download a podcast.

Another page of my "index book" lists download links for other recorded radio programmes I may want to hear and keep and a fourth page offers me an index linking to my favourite crossword puzzles.

All that in just four easily accessible, automatically up-to-date pages.

For me, nothings else compares and I'm very glad that now it doesn't even need FUEL :D

Quicktext

To Repeat: Users With Problems Should Look on this Extension's Home Page Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

To _*all*_ those users who are still having problems with this extension: I cannot too much stress how important it is for you to follow the advice below.

You really should very carefully read the
"Quicktext > Support & Help > Quicktext on Thunderbird 45" and
"Quicktext > Bug Reporting > Quicktext doesn't work after updating to thunderbi"
topics in the forum on the extension's "Add-on home page", for which a link can be found on the top(pish) righthand side of the main AMO (this site) page for this QuickText extension.

And, for heaven's sake, in future, please read other reviews properly before posting your "reviews" with unnecessarily despairing moans in them. Also, always check an extension's "Add-on home page" and "Support Site" (usually the forums or bug reports there) before complaining of supposedly terminal problems.

This is a truly invaluable extension, allowing you, at the click of a button, to insert, wherever you wish in the body of, and/or elsewhere in an email, any text items (templates) you have predefined. These text items may include embedded "variables" which will, at time of insertion, be replaced by specific information taken from various places including existing items in the mail being composed, address book entries, date/time information, names of attachments, clipboard contents and more. Other "variables" include directives such as cursor positioning.

At composition time, most of the variables can themselves also be dynamically called up (by clicking menu items) to have their current values inserted at the current position in the email.

The extension is apparently, unsurprisingly, one of the very most popular for Thunderbird users.

Unfortunately, the current problem with Thunderbird 45.0 and QuickText templates has prevented many users from updating to TB45.0.

We are all hoping that the extension author will soon be able to provide an updated version of QuickText so users here may easily update and then advance to TB45.0 and beyond.

Such affected users really should very carefully read the
"Quicktext > Support & Help > Quicktext on Thunderbird 45" and

Extension List Dumper 2

Works for Plugins as well as Extensions Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

@BillyDick To obtain a list of a particular type of add-on (such as plugins), first display that type in the Add-ons Manager (tab, sidebar or window) and then press the 'Dump List' button above the display or in the dropdown menu you have been using.

It only dumps the list of what is currently displaying in the Add-ons Manager.

It's that simple to use.

Dorando keyconfig

A Very Helpful Signed Replacement Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

Now, like Dorando's original Keyconfig extension, this latest version of 'Dorando Keyconfig' allows you to create new keyboard shortcuts and supply and edit your own javascript for them.

You can also remove ('reset') them or change the keyboard combinations they use.

Using it, you can also:

disable or re-enable existing shortcuts (including many of those which you have not yourself created - but not those created by the system, such as, for instance, Ctrl+C for 'Copy' in Windows)

change the keyboard key combinations used by existing shortcuts (including many of those which you have not yourself created - but not those created by the system, such as, for instance, Ctrl+C for 'Copy' in Windows)

define shortcuts to override (replace) many pre-existing shortcuts you have not yourself created, thus changing the effect of those key combinations. You may have to explicitly disable the pre-existing ones to make that work.

When I tested this version (2016.2), IN FIREFOX, I started from the latest version (20110522) of Dorando's own original Keyconfig extension and, carefully following trlkly's advice (see 'About this.." above) replaced it with 'Dorando Keyconfig' 2016.2.

After installation was complete (I had re-started Firefox) all the new shortcuts I had previously created (along with my own javascript) using keyconfig 20110522 were still present, in the same state (active or disabled) and active ones were still working.

Those shortcuts which I had not created but which I had disabled were still disabled.

I was then able to edit my own shortcuts (keys and/or javascript), create and remove my own shortcuts and disable and re-enable shortcuts as expected.

I was also able to disable and re-enable shortcuts I had not created and change their keyboard key combinations (but, as described above, not for those created directly by the operating system).

Like the original, 'Dorando Keyconfig' lists existing keyboard shortcuts and the listing can be sorted by name, key combination or shortcut ID.
It does not fill the error log with "Type error" messages, which the original did.
It does also incorporate Morat's informative colour coding enhancement in the shortcut listing.

Hopefully, as a very welcome publicly listed and AMO-approved extension, 'Dorando Keyconfig' will long continue to provide all the functions which keyconfig 20110522 so helpfully gave us.

Thank you very much, trlkly, for all your efforts to make this new listed version available with all its functions enabled.

Dorando keyconfig

NOT "a slightly updated version of Dorando's tool" Noté 4 sur 5 étoiles

Firstly, a shamefaced apology to anyone who read my previous review. I took the developer's description to mean that all Dorando's original functions had been retained, allowed my delight to run away with me and only made cursory checks to verify the description. I'm very sorry and I hope I never again make such an error. "Trust no-one" (least of all yourself).

I should, in all fairness, say that the developer, trlkly, has been in contact with me and pointed out this misunderstanding and shortfall on my part.

So now:

Sadly, this extension is not a slightly updated version of Dorando's tool, neither does it "Keep all your old settings".

It does not permit you to supply your own javascript either for your own new keyboard shortcuts or to replace code associated with existing shortcuts.

It removed all the enabled new shortcuts I had created along with my own javascript, although it did leave those items, renamed, in prefs.js. Perhaps those could be picked up again if ever this function is re-enabled as in the original Keyconfig.

It does list existing keyboard shortcuts and the listing can be sorted by name, key combination or shortcut ID.
It does not fill the error log with "Type error" messages, which the original did.
It does incorporate Morat's informative colour coding in the shortcut listing.

However since, for me and, I believe, many others, the most valuable function of Keyconfig was to allow users to provide new code for new and existing shortcuts to invoke, this solution can only be seen as a step on the way.

Given that major factor, I did not test the facilities to alter key combinations or disable shortcuts.

As is, it could perhaps be seen as a valuable partner for the excellent 'Menu Wizard' which is also signed and publicly listed and _does_ allow shortcuts to be created and edited with user code, (providing they are associated with new or existing menu items) but whose shortcut listing facility is not yet very user friendly.

Given that, currently, the only AMO signed alternative I know which has all the original Keyconfig functions is not publicly listed on AMO, I might eventually use 'Dorando Keyconfig' alongside 'Menu Wizard'

I can only rate 'Dorando Keyconfig' at three stars but would give it four if the description was changed throughout to make clear that it does not include the important javascript facilities of Dorando's original.

Again, sorry for my original gross lapse in not waking up enough to test it properly.

EDIT: Thanks for your reply. I've emailed you with more information. With your amended description, I've changed my rating

Menu Wizard

A most impressive product! Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

Thank you very much for this excellent extension, which I have for some time been using instead of 'Menu Editor'. I find it powerful, elegant, user friendly and very useful.

I'm already using the latest feature and have added six new menu items to a submenu in the 'Tools' menu. They all work as expected.

My wish list? It would be nice to be able to add keyboard shortcuts to menu items which do not yet have any.

Extension List Dumper

Signed WORKING Revival by Iceberg (who, luckily for them, is not RDL) Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

Der_Orso: I am not Iceberg and her/his extension is not mine.

You said you were looking for Extension List Dumper 2 and could not find it. Since you already knew the name, the fact that you found its function was not obvious from its name doesn't seem relevant. But I suppose you believed you were addressing a comment to Iceberg who simply followed the original name of this extension, which was, and is, well known to many of us.

In this country, depending on the context, text may be enclosed in either single or double quotes (otherwise known as 'inverted commas'), and in such context we do not call them apostrophes.

I am glad that you have been able to find Extension List Dumper 2 and are now using it. Your review gave it high marks although, despite the fact I suspect you find it extremely useful, you did not mention any of its good features nor make any positive comment about it. People stay up at night to give us these goodies so when they work for us, as ELD 2 does, why not at least mention that?

..and just a repeat for other hopefuls:

Try typing just 'dumper' (without quotes) in the AMO search box.and look carefully at the drop-down list which appears. Then click on the line showing Extension List Dumper 2.

I have no problem seeing it that way.

However, the new version, 'Extension List Dumper 2', of which I told you, DOES work..

Extension List Dumper 2

Best Available and Mostly Really Good Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

nknm: Now that you point it out, yes, I also see that problem with printing and I hope it can be corrected.

However, don't you think that perhaps your single star is a bit harsh for one broken function?**

This extension can be invoked - its button in Add-ons Manager is functional.
It does display all the requested information as specified.
The settings to control the information displayed work as expected and
The variety of information available for each add-on is valuable.
It is possible, in the 'Options', to specify one's own default values for those settings.

A button allows one to save the entire display to a file of one's own choosing. This does work.
**As a temporary circumvention of the printing problem, one could do that and then print the file.

A button allows one to copy the entire display to the clipboard. This, also, does work and, for example, allows one to easily copy the information to a spreadsheet.
.
One can also select, and copy to the clipboard, any chosen area of the display, which I find very useful for updating change control files.

As far as I know, there is no other extension on AMO which both works at all (let alone to this extent) and also provides such a wealth of useful functions. You can use it for your requirements and if you know of anything else which can do do that at all then please tell us.

The only remotely similar working things I know of are 'Nightly tester Tools' and 'InfoLister' which, although very useful for many, provide much simpler listings and much more limited options. I'm not even sure that InfoLister is still usable on FF40.*

It is also very important to understand that Iceberg, unlike others, took the trouble to work out how to mend the original totally broken ELD and to now provide this very useful and usable signed fork of itl on AMO for all of us.

I think the printing problem might be quite a small thing to fix. Perhaps you could work out what it needs and let Iceberg know? If I had the brain, I would try that.

My Keyboard Navigator

FIXED (XML Parsing Error When Trying to Access the Options) FIXED Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

My Keyboard Navigator 0.7.0 in Firefox 40.0.02 on Windows 7 x64.

I was hoping to use the Advanced Settings in this extension as a substitute for KeyConfig, which is unsigned and looks likely to remain so.

Unfortunately, I cannot access the settings and ust get the error:

XML Parsing Error: undefined entity Location: about:my-keyboard-navigator Line Number 51, Column 6:
<textbox preference="pref-focus-key" type="text" placeholder^'&col.keyword.label;" onchange="validateKeyword(event) ;"/X!— places.dtd —>

I have tried in a brand new profile, with absolutely no additions or other changes whatever. It doesn't work.

I have tried versions of the extension going back as far as 2011 but even when, in much earlier versions this error does not appear, then something else fails.

I had hoped to be able to recommend this on the Mozillazine Keyconfig forum topic, where there are lots of quietly desperate people waiting for a replacement.

So what's the problem? Are any of these glowing reviews for Win 7 x64 users? If so, what on earth is different that makes it work for them?

Developer: please see if you can find a solution for us.

EDIT: Thanks very much, Little Spark, for version 0.7.3 which works without trouble.

This is a very interesting extension, since it allows one to replace use of keyboard shortcuts with keywords, each of which is associated with a menu or button action or a piece of user specified javascript. Pressing the extension's single selected hotkey and then typing the first letter of a user defined keyword will produce a prompt which lists all keywords starting with that letter. Typing sufficient subsequent letters allows one to complete selection of the keyword and its associated action will then be carried out.

It does not allow one to modify or disable existing conventional keyboard shortcuts or to define new ones. It provides an alternative system. I found it well worth investigating and, although I think I prefer those conventional keyboard shortcuts, I also need to consider how far 'My Keyboard Navigator' could be used to reduce my problems if I lost the use of Keyconfig.

Addon List Dumper (restartless)

Not Really a 'continued extesion for "Extension List Dumper"' Noté 2 sur 5 étoiles

This extension, although it works as far as it goes, is a rather limited imitation of 'Extension List Dumper'.

1) It does not include the installation time with the installation date for each item. The time is also very important for change control.

2) It does not allow the display window to be resized and the current visible list length is very small. Not ergonomic.

3) It is not possible to set default values for the list parameters, as can be done in 'Extension List Dumper'. Hence all values must be changed, as required, on every execution. Not ergonomic.

4) The flowery wallpaper effect of the display panel is distracting and detracts from quiet, uncomplicated use. Not ergonomic. It should either be made optional or simply removed.

It might really be much more helpful of monkey413 if she/he would, very kindly, make a direct fork of 'Extension List Dumper', make it work again by incorporating the one line fix detailed in its AMO reviews, and ensure that the working fork is signed by AMO, so we have its full function guaranteed after Firefox 40.

The Addon Type settings introduced by monkey413 might then be added as useful enhancements.

All-in-One Sidebar

Thanks - and a temporary solution for nabucco et al. Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

Dear eXXile, thanks very much for the update, which seems to be mainly** working well for me in FF39.0 on Win 7 x64. However..

EDITED:

@nabucco: I also see your problem, where the message bar above the extensions panel does not appear when 'Check for updates' is actioned. However, the action itself _is_ going on although, because the bar does not appear, the messages cannot be seen.

You should still see the icon for viewing the available updates list panel appear, as usual, in the icon bar above the searchbar and/or the extensions which have available updates should still have the little 'Update available' message below the version number in the extensions panel entry. Thus you will still be able to see the list of available updates (and to apply them) if there are any.

**I have now had time to test in a new, nearly unmodified, profile and this problem also occurs there: so I strongly suspect that AiOS is responsible. This is not a killer bug but it is irritating.

Until there's a fix for it, I'm using a slightly inelegant circumvention which you might like to try.

At the end of your 'userChrome.css' file in the 'chrome' folder (in your profile), add the following five lines of code.

#updates-container {
display: -moz-box !important;
hidden: false !important;
min-height: 28.2px !important;
}

That will make the message bar visible _all_ the time and you will see the messages changing when, as they should, they do.
