Using Firebug 1.4.2 with Firefox 3.5.2 on Linux Debian with 2.6.30 kernel ...

When starting up Firefox with this extension, the pages take quite a bit longer to load, and the memory usage goes up through the roof - not to mention the CPU usage - and then it settles down to one third (!!!!) of the memory usage.

This is the best web-development debugger out there ... but it's not usable to have it enabled in daily browsing any longer ... and that is a damn shame.

Of course I will be using it still, but only enable it when it's actually needed - and doing that by running it with another user for any specific page I will be working on. That way it won't hamper my daily usage with Firefox.

The Web Developer 1.1.8 extension works just fine, and does not add more than roughly 20MB of extra memory usage when starting up roughly 100 tabs spread on 4 windows. Firebug adds roughly 100MB when enabled. The Firefox instance runs at around 610MB with Firebug enabled ...

However - when starting up Firefox with Firebug enabled - it goes up to 1200-1500MB - then settles down to 610MB. That is just sick - and the CPU usage is just as awful during startup and page loading ...

Ironically some addons.mozilla.org pages time out when loading because of the extra strain that Firebug causes during startup. I thought that Firebug was disabled by default on all pages ... but there is definitely something very fishy with the way Firebug works nowadays.

Hope they fix this issue soon, as it is seriously undermining the usage of Firefox as it stands now.

What happened? Noté 2 sur 5 étoiles

The Firefox 3.1 compatible version of Firebug was brilliant, 5 stars definitely.
But this latest version for FF 3.5 is rubbish!
Why?
Because you can't edit live any more.
Want to change 10px to 20px in the CSS panel and watch it happen live? well now you can't!
Want to adjust margin, padding or anything in CSS and see it instantly? sorry , not happening.

Firebug was arguably the best add on but now it is completely useless!
Please sort this out I beg of you.

Regards,
John

Didn't like this release. Too buggy. Doesn't do what I expect it to do.
I'll stay with firebug 1.3.3

It has a lot of bugs to be released. I regret wasting my time testing it. I'll stay with version 1.3.3

One annoying thing, makes 1.4.1 almost unusable for me. Async responses shows in one line so main part of the long response remains behind the window borders. Have to fall back to 1.4.0 ((

With version 1.4 the debugger contain now new powerful features and a better handling. I had a javascript problem (debugger could not view the sources) could it could be fixed with the powerful discussion area of the developer website.
Thanks for this tool.

Firebug upgrade problem Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

I have a problem upgrading to new Firebug - it says "you have to restart firefox to complete installation" but nothing happens after restart - the same message in 'addons' window. Ubuntu, FF 3.0.12

Great tool! Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles

Great great tool, thanks - I couldn't live without it! I use it every day at work for debugging and designing web applications.

Bug with FF 3.5:
CTRL+F12 is overruled by Firefox as "undo close tab". Hence this shortcut no longer works with Firebug.

One of the most essential tools for a web developer. I am *very* impressed with this add-on

Phew. Version 1.4.1 seems to be up to standard again. No crazy behaviour or crashes so far. Fingers crossed, but I've got a good feeling about this.
I think Firebug is back to its good old 5 star standard.

I have not (yet) had a problem with 1.4, altho' new UI is always a little annoying at first. This is still the most useful tool you can get for web development. I use the Lite version for Safari and IE with a great deal of success as well. Hard to remember how much of a nightmare javascript debugging was 5 years ago - Firebug changed all that.
