  • When I need to use this great addon I launch old firefox with ArchView installed.
  • Why am I not able to use this extension?
  • The version updated by Infocatcher works in Fx 31 (special thank you to him), but files from archives don't get previewed separately (loading infinitely) and the extension doesn't work at all with archives from https (and that includes Github, Wordpress and large amount of sites).

Also, the XUL interface is TERRIBLE - it's a blast from the past, really, you gotta see it.
  • This was *just* the addon I was looking for, so as not to download a ~200MB ZIP file unnecessarily. Fantastic! Only caveat is that the original 0.7.1 version by solar available on this page and on SourceForge doesn't work in FF4+, but the amazing Infocatcher has an updated 0.7.2 version available on GitHub that works brilliantly for me in FF26. Highly recommended!

    1) Set up the add-on as shown here: http://i.imgur.com/S1GUNAN.png Be sure to select the "Show icon in the Status Bar" option. In newer versions of FF the icon will naturally show up in the Add-on Bar (Ctrl+/) instead since the Status Bar is long gone.

    2. Left-clicking the icon toggles between two states. Here's what they mean: http://i.imgur.com/8SQGDOR.png
  • @kumarakshay for this we could just use it with ntt (nightly tester tools). same for orbit downloader, in previous versions you could choose what you want in the zipped packaed.
  • This addon is abandoned, it was good while it lasted.
  • @kumarakshay

This doesn't make the add-on work.
Just because this add-on can be installed after editing the max version, doesn't mean, the add-on will work again.
    It still does not!!!
The only chance to use this addon is to have the portable version of an old FF3.6.x. with this add-on installed.

IT'S AN ABSOLUTE SHAME, after ONE AND A HALF YEAR(!!!), still NOBODY on this f...reaking planet is capable of updating this add-on. :(((((
  • Here's a workaround for those who want this to be installed in FF versions later than 3.6.
1-Download the addon xpi from any other browser.
2-Open archive inside any File unarchivers like 7zip,etc.
    3-Locate the file install.rdf
    4-rename it to install.txt
5-open it in notepad and find "em:maxVersion>3.0.*6-Replace 3.0 with 23.0,24.0,etc.
    7-Save it
    8-Rename it again to install.rdf
    9-Close 7zip
10-Drag the xpi file to the firefox window
11-Voila! Installation dialog box is here :)
    Hope this works.
  • PLEASE update.
  • please update!
  • This is one of the most useful exetensions available for Firefox. Unfortunately, version 0.7.1 doesn't appear to work with Firefox version 5, even if you edit the install.rdf file.
  • pity, it is not updated from 2008
  • Great extension. Very handy the status bar button to enable or disable its function.
But it's not working for FF 4.0.1, it shows status bar button, but its context menu is showing a transparent background, and it simply is not working when you click a .zip file. It needs an update.
  • must have
  • very usefull addon. I love it. I downloaded archives from zipped file hosted on megaupload. Its amazing. but its not work very well if you use archview + downthemall to download theses files, firefox version 3.6.13 always crashes . Then you will need download using regular firefox in built download manager. Recommended to slow speed internet users.
  • Tried it but nothing happening.
please Post How to Use Instructions as well.
  • Useful
I cant use it until i restart my PC !!! (I think so)
To hide the icon use this add-on
  • Great extension!
  • О давно искал такую плюшку!
  • Nice!
    Полезный аддон!
    Update please to FF3.6!
  • Works good with FF 3.5.6 in Windows 7 64-bit.

    Thank you.
  • I am using Firefox 3.5.4 and Archview is a very useful utility, the only problem is feel is that there is no proper guide for this addon. First of all it is a great addon and very useful to check before downloading for virus or other malicious contents.

The status-bar Icon is one which is most useful as just before going to download from rapidshare or any other file hosting sites just disable the type of file by right clicking on the Icon and selecting the type of file you are about to download and enable it again when download begins.

So this extension is great and working fine here, no compatibility issues and doing it's job perfectly. I rate it 4 out of 5. Needs a better documentation and GUI.
  • En FF 3.5 no abre los archivos .rar no .iso solo los .zip no se a que se debe el problema pues con FF 2 funciona perfecto. Me gusta esta extension es una lastima que solo se pueda utilizar en FF 2
