Nook — Sidebar Notes Add-on for Firefox
Last updated: August 2026
Halil Kök ("we," "us," "our") built Nook as a free, non-commercial add-on for people who want a simple, distraction-free notepad in their browser's sidebar. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Add-on handles and how.
- Summary
Nook does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. All notes you write are stored locally on your own device using Firefox's built-in storage API. Nook has no server, no analytics, no tracking, and no network access of any kind. - What Data Is Stored, and Where
Note content (titles and text you type) is saved locally via browser.storage.local, the standard Firefox extension storage mechanism. App preferences such as your selected theme (light/dark) and the last note you had open are also saved locally the same way. None of this data ever leaves your device. It is not uploaded to any server operated by us or any third party, because the Add-on does not make network requests. - Permissions Used
Nook requests only the "storage" permission, which is required to save your notes locally so they persist between browser sessions. Nook does not request access to your browsing history, tabs, cookies, location, or any other browser data. - Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose any data to third parties, because we do not collect or receive any data in the first place. There are no advertising SDKs, analytics libraries, or third-party services embedded in the Add-on. - Data Retention and Deletion
Your notes remain in local browser storage until you delete them yourself (by deleting individual notes in the Add-on) or until you uninstall the Add-on, which removes all associated local storage data. We have no ability to access, back up, or recover this data, since it never reaches us. - Children's Privacy
Nook does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, since it collects no data at all. - Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes — for example, if a future version of the Add-on introduces optional sync or new functionality that involves data leaving your device — this document will be updated, the "Last updated" date will change, and the update will be described in the version's release notes. - Contact
