🎭 Uncheck That — Expose Sneaky Pre-Checked Boxes

Not every “choice” on the internet is really a choice.

Many websites quietly use a design trick called pre-selection—where checkboxes are already ticked for you before you even read them. These can opt you into things like:

marketing emails and newsletters
add-on services or subscriptions
insurance or extra fees
credit checks or data sharing permissions

Because they’re often placed in small text or buried in forms, it’s easy to miss them—and accidentally agree to something you never intended.

Uncheck That makes those hidden decisions visible.

🔍 What it does

This extension scans every page you visit for pre-checked checkboxes and clearly highlights them so you can make an informed choice.

When a pre-selected box is detected, it:

adds a bright visual highlight (easy to spot instantly)

displays a small warning label:

⚠️ This box was pre-checked for you — is that what you want?

gently draws your attention without interrupting your workflow

It does not automatically uncheck anything. Instead, it ensures you stay in control.

⚙️ Why this matters

Pre-checked boxes are one of the most common and widely criticized “dark patterns” on the web. They rely on:

speed (you click quickly)
distraction (you’re focused on the main action)
assumption (you trust the form is neutral)

The result? People end up agreeing to things they didn’t notice.

Uncheck That restores visibility and intent to your decisions.

🧠 Designed to respect your control

Unlike aggressive blockers or auto-modifiers, this extension:

never changes form values on its own
never submits or interferes with forms
never breaks site functionality

It simply reveals what was hidden in plain sight.

🌐 Works across the web

Uncheck That operates on:

sign-up forms
checkout pages
account settings
surveys and popups
subscription flows

Anywhere a checkbox appears, it’s watching for pre-selection patterns.

🔒 Privacy-first
No data collection
No tracking
No external servers
Everything runs locally in your browser

What you see—and what you choose—stays entirely yours.

💡 Subtle, but powerful

This extension doesn’t block, break, or fight websites.
It simply asks one important question at the right moment:

Did you actually mean to agree to this?

🚀 Take back control of your clicks

Install Uncheck That and make sure every checkbox reflects your decision—not the website’s.
