Pastree Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 26, 2026
Pastree is a clipboard manager extension for Chrome and Firefox, made by Digisoma ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the extension stores, where it keeps it, and what this website, pastr.ee, handles. If you have a question, email support@pastr.ee.
In short
- Pastree keeps everything it saves in your browser, on your device. It has no servers and no accounts, and it sends nothing to us or to anyone else. We never receive your clipboard history, lists, prompts or files.
- No analytics, ads or tracking. The extension makes no network requests and runs no code from the internet. We don't sell or share data, because we never have it.
- Automatic capture is off until you switch it on, and it works only after you let Pastree access websites.
- Your settings can sync to your other devices through your browser account, if you use browser sync. Your content never syncs.
- You decide where your content goes: you paste it, attach it, copy it or export it.
What Pastree stores
- Clipboard history: The text; when it was saved or edited; how it was saved (copied, pasted, saved from the right-click menu, read from the clipboard, or added by hand); for text saved from a web page, that page's address and title; whether you starred it; which paste shortcut it's assigned to. Kept in: Pastree's local storage.
- Lists: The lists you make and their items. Kept in: Pastree's local storage.
- Prompts: Your prompts, prompt lists, tags, version history and view preferences. Kept in: Pastree's local storage.
- Files: Files you add (up to 50, at most 20 MB each), and the thumbnails Pastree draws for them on your device. Kept in: Pastree's IndexedDB database.
- Settings: History limit, automatic capture on or off, Exclude passwords, auto-delete. Kept in: Browser sync storage (see Browser sync).
- Panel state: The tab you had open, your theme, how files are shown; which file you're attaching, for up to 90 seconds. Kept in: Pastree's local storage, and the browser's session storage.
Pastree doesn't add its own encryption to this data. Your browser keeps it in your browser profile, so anyone who can use your browser profile can see it.
How things get saved
- Automatic capture is off by default. When you switch it on, your browser asks whether Pastree may access all websites. If you allow it, Pastree saves the text you copy or paste on web pages, and saves what's on your clipboard when you open the Pastree panel. It also treats Control+C or Command+C pressed on a web page, with or without Shift, as a copy: it saves the selected text or, if nothing is selected, what's on your clipboard, which may be something you copied in another app. On a Mac this happens even with Control+C, which doesn't copy anything there. You can switch it off at any time. If you take away Pastree's access to websites, automatic capture switches off.
- Save clipboard to Pastree, in the right-click menu, saves the text selected on the page, or your clipboard if nothing is selected. It works only on the page where you use it, with automatic capture on or off.
- You add things yourself: items, lists, prompts and files.
Passwords and other sensitive text
While Exclude passwords is on, as it is by default, automatic capture and the right-click save skip:
- text pasted into password, payment-card and one-time-code fields;
- text that looks like a private key, an access token (JWT), a published API key, a payment card number, a US Social Security number or a password-like string.
These checks look for common formats and can miss others, so be careful what you copy while automatic capture is on. Text you add by hand is saved as you entered it. With Exclude passwords off, Pastree saves sensitive text like any other text.
What leaves your device
Nothing leaves your device unless you send it:
- Paste puts text into the page you choose, and Attach gives a stored file to the upload field you click. That website then handles it under its own policies.
- Copy puts text on your system clipboard, where other apps can read it.
- Export saves a file on your device. The backup file holds your clipboard history (with each item's page address and title), your lists and your settings, but not your files or prompts. Prompts export one at a time, as .txt, .md or .json files.
- Links in the panel, such as Support, Report a bug and About, open pages on this website.
Browser sync
Pastree keeps its settings (history limit, automatic capture on or off, Exclude passwords and auto-delete) in the browser's sync storage. If you're signed in to your browser with sync turned on, Google (for Chrome) or Mozilla (for Firefox) may copy these settings to your other devices, under their own privacy policies. Your clipboard history, lists, prompts and files never sync.
Permissions
Pastree asks your browser for these permissions:
- Storage and unlimited storage: to keep your history, lists, prompts and settings, and up to 50 files of 20 MB each, on your device.
- Context menus: for the Pastree items in the right-click menu.
- Active tab: so the shortcuts and the right-click menu work on the page you're using, without access to your other sites.
- Clipboard read: for the right-click save when nothing is selected, and to save your clipboard when you open the panel with automatic capture on.
- Clipboard write: for the Copy buttons.
- Scripting: to paste into pages, attach files, run automatic capture, read the selected text for the right-click save, and show confirmations on the page.
- Side panel (Chrome only): to show Pastree beside the page. Firefox shows it in its sidebar.
- Alarms: while auto-delete is set to 7, 30 or 90 days, to check every hour for items old enough to remove.
- Access to all websites (optional): asked for only when you switch on automatic capture, or when pasting or attaching from the panel needs it. You can take it away in your browser's extension settings.
How long data is kept, and deleting it
- Clipboard history stays until you delete it, until auto-delete removes it, or until it falls off the end of your history limit.
- Auto-delete can be set to Never (the default), when the browser closes, or after 7, 30 or 90 days. It removes clipboard items you haven't starred. It never removes starred items, lists, prompts or files.
- The history limit is 100 items unless you change it. When a new item goes over the limit, the oldest items are removed, starred ones included.
- Lists, prompts, files and settings stay until you delete them.
- Clear All Data, in Settings, deletes whichever of these you tick: clipboard history (starred items included), lists, files and prompts. It keeps your settings.
- Removing Pastree from your browser deletes the data it stored on that device.
Because everything Pastree stores is on your device, you can see, export and delete all of it yourself. For any other question or request about your data, email support@pastr.ee.
This website
Our website, pastr.ee, is hosted on AWS Amplify, a service of Amazon Web Services (AWS). As with any website, each visit sends AWS the details needed to deliver the page: your IP address, your browser and operating system, the page you asked for, the page that linked to it, and the time. Amplify keeps these in access logs for as long as the site is hosted there, and Digisoma can view them. We use them only to run and secure the site. AWS's own handling is described in the AWS Privacy Notice.
To see how the site is used, pastr.ee uses Umami, a cookieless analytics service run by Umami Software, Inc., which stores the data on its servers in the United States. For each page view, Umami records the page's address and title, the page that linked to it, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, and your approximate location (country, region and city). Your IP address is used to work out the location and is never stored. Umami tells visits apart with a code that changes every month, so it can't follow you from site to site. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, nothing is recorded.
If you answer "Was this guide helpful?", Umami also records the guide and your answer. Your browser remembers that you answered, so the guide doesn't ask again; that note stays on your device.
The site has no ads and sets no cookies, and apart from Umami it loads nothing from other companies. Links to the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons take you to those sites, which have their own policies.
If you email support@pastr.ee, we use your message and email address to answer you. Please don't send us clipboard contents or files that hold private information.

If this policy changes, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
