HaramBlock - AI-Powered Gaze Protection

Allah commands us in the Quran: "Tell the believing men to lower their gaze" (24:30).

HaramBlock is a browser extension that helps Muslims lower their gaze while browsing the internet. In a world where inappropriate imagery appears everywhere - in ads, social feeds, news sites, search results - protecting your eyes becomes a daily struggle. HaramBlock applies a digital hijab to web images, filtering out what shouldn't be seen.

HaramBlock was built to help the Ummah follow this ruling in the digital age. Let technology assist you in protecting your gaze and keeping your browsing free from fitnah.

How It Works

HaramBlock uses local machine learning models to locate and filter forbidden content within images. Unlike simple blockers that hide entire pictures, our model detects specific regions and masks.

Think of it as applying hijab to images: the awrah is covered, the rest remains visible and useful.

The extension automatically detects and masks website media in real-time:

Key Features

• AI-Powered Detection - Automatically detects and masks website media using advanced machine learning
• Smart Segmentation - Precisely covers only inappropriate parts, keeping images useful

• Multiple Masking Modes
- Bounding boxes: Draw boxes around detected areas
- Segmentation masks: Precisely mask detected regions
- Full-image masking: Blur the entire image

• Per-Site Control - Customize filtering for each website:
- Whitelist: Trust this site completely
- Blacklist: Block all images
- Process: Let AI handle detection

• Adjustable Strictness -Set your own sensitivity threshold

• Video Support - Filters video frames, not just static images

• Cross-Browser - Works on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Brave

Constant Improvements

The AI model is constantly learning and improving, but it's not perfect yet. You may encounter content that should be filtered but isn't, or content that gets filtered unnecessarily.

Please report any issues you find. Your feedback directly improves the model for the entire Ummah. Every bug report makes HaramBlock better for everyone.

Open Source - By the Community, For the Community

HaramBlock is completely free and open source:

• Transparent - Review every line of code
• Community-driven - Anyone can contribute
• Improve the model - Developers and ML engineers welcome

Tools that help Muslims practice their deen should be accessible to everyone. If you can contribute skills in development, machine learning, or testing - join us.
