Anki New Tab – Turn Your New Tab Page into a Flashcard Reviewer

Transform every new Firefox tab into a focused flashcard review session. Anki New Tab connects to your local Anki desktop application and displays a random card that is due for review, right in your browser. Review seamlessly without interrupting your workflow.

🎯 Key Features

• Random Due Cards – Fetches a random card from your specified Anki deck that is ready for review today (due cards only).
• Clean, Modern Interface – A beautifully designed card layout with a gradient background, large typography, and smooth animations.
• Full Review Workflow
• Click Show Answer to reveal the back of the card.
• Then rate your recall with four familiar buttons: Again (fail), Hard, Good, and Easy.
• Live Sync with Anki – Your ratings are instantly sent to Anki via AnkiConnect, updating the card’s schedule and review history just as if you reviewed it in the desktop app.
• Automatic Next Card – After rating, a new due card loads automatically, keeping the flow going.
• Works Offline – All communication is with your local Anki instance; no internet connection is required.

🧠 How It Works

1. Install AnkiConnect (add-on code: 2055492159) in Anki desktop.
2. Install this Firefox extension.
3. Open a new tab – a random due card from your deck appears.
4. Test yourself, click Show Answer, then rate your response.
5. The review is recorded in Anki, and the next card appears instantly.

🔒 Privacy & Permissions

• No Data Collection – This extension collects absolutely no user data. All communication stays on your computer (http://localhost:8765).
• Minimal Permissions – It only requests access to localhost to talk to AnkiConnect. No browsing history, no personal information, no remote servers.
• Open Source – You can inspect the code yourself; it’s just three plain files with no hidden processing.

⚙️ Configuration

• By default, the extension looks for a deck named “UPSC::PYQs”. To use your own deck, edit the deck name inside newtab.js (look for getRandomDueCard('UPSC::PYQs')).
• If you prefer to see any card (not only due), simply remove the is:due filter from the query.

🚀 Why You’ll Love It

• Effortless Micro‑Learning – Every new tab becomes a learning opportunity.
• Seamless Integration – Stays in sync with your Anki desktop, so your progress is always up to date.
• Distraction‑Free – No ads, no clutter – just your cards.

This extension is perfect for students, language learners, medical professionals, or anyone who uses Anki for spaced repetition. Download now and turn every tab into a step toward mastery!
