If you are into adjusting the look of Firefox and perhaps of particular sites you often visit, this is an extension that is definitely worth giving a try.
If you are not into writing your own scripts, lots of ready-made ones are available, which is a relief for those not willing to spend hours just to learn how to change the background color of something.
Note, though, that it is probably not for everyone, as the interface can seem a bit intimidating for the first-time user, and not all styles will necessarily work as they should without some tinkering.
I tried this and it worked very nicely. I am sure that people who print/save/copy selected images from different web pages frequently will find this an excellent extension!
One problem with it was that on some pages, with certain settings, the options appear outside the image and disappear when you try to reach them with the cursor. The only fix for this is switching the setting on the "relative to cursor" setting. However, I am quite sure that this has more to do with something on those particular pages (I am afraid I cannot recall exactly where this happened, right now), rather than with this extension.
Also, if there is an image below the size limit you have to remove the cursor from it, hold Ctrl and move the cursor back to make the options visible. It would be more efficient if you could just press control with your cursor on a small image to make the options appear.
I really like this add-on. It works and works well - mostly.
I am not a fan of the new flags, which take up more space than the previous ones did. I would very much like the option to use the older, smaller flags. And yes, I did try adjusting the flag icon size following the instructions on the Flagfox page (please add it to the options, even if not all results are optimal), but smaller they are not as easily recognizable as the old set of flags, and I find the white border oddly distracting.
Also, the option to edit the existing options (such as the Google search) would be nice (with a "reset default buttons" option available, of course).
Google Translate did not work for me. I got endless repeats of the top part of the screen one gets when using Google translate.
The other functions I tried, such as verifying the server, all worked nicely. Very useful. Please keep up the excellent work!
Nice. Does what it promises.
Would be nice if the author could post on this page the relevant information for removing conflict with User Agent Changer (and I mean the precise info, we are not all as good at this sort of thing).
And yes, I do read some of the previous reviews when writing my own and sometimes, if I agree with them, I will repeat their words. I am sure I am not the only one. If this offends the author, I apologize.
Either way, you have an excellent add-on.
Does what it claims, simply and effectively.
One might wish for:
- more functionality (suggestions: ping, trace, proxy)
- greater ease-of-use (the ability to not have to use the back button if a certain page is not in the archive you have chosen - perhaps a behind-the-scenes check to see if a page is in an archive before going to that archive)
- customizability (perhaps one wants to use an archive that isn't listed?)
This is not bad, but could be even better.
There is a problem for example with dragging text to be searched. I found that, having more search engines than I can fit on the screen at one time, I cannot scroll down to see the bottom of the search engine list, which is extremely annoying!
As for the developer's suggestion that I should reorder my search engines to put the most used ones at the top of the list - well, of course they _already_ are in that order. The point is that one should be able to access them all.
Also, it would be excellent if one could customize the menu for different actions. One example of this could be the ability to save images to different folders, depending on where you drop them. Another possibility might be saving links (files, pages, whatever).
All in all a good effort, but which leaves you wanting something even better.
A good idea and seems to do what it promises.
The one thing that lowered the rating I gave it was memory use. For some reason this one-function extension uses almost 2.5 times the memory that Flagfox (which is active on every page) does.
Why do all these search engine providers insist on making HUGE toolbars? Install a couple and you can't see anything anymore.
Also, the search didn't really work properly (Duckduckgo had problems).
Better get a redirect cleaner extension that will clean (almost) all redirects than install one that is JUST for Google ...
This is nowadays pointless, and this extension should be retired. Firefox has this built in.Esta valoración es de una versión anterior del complemento (20110508).
This is a great extension!
It is a pity that the developer has decided to stop developing it ...
I couldn't get this to work with Firefox 27.0.1. The tabs displayed quite erratic behavior. The last update appears to be from 2011, which is a pity.
Sadly this extension is not working on newer releases of Firefox. Needs an update, but the developer has abandoned the project.
Someone should make their own, new, version of this.
The idea for this extension not bad, but the execution is somewhat clunky.
The toolbar is very big (why not incorporate the new search function into the existing one instead of adding a toolbar, reducing screen space?)
Also, the search engines are limited to the ones that come with the extension, you cannot add any of your own.
All in all I feel that this extension needs a rather drastical makeover before it will gain popularity (at the moment there are about fifty users).
Works just as it should. The best extension I have tried for printing to a PDF file.
Very useful and well made. Thank you.
This makes using FTP much, much easier.
It works well, practically faultlessly, creating a simple file manager style interface for accessing FTP. Recommended!
Like most of these flash downloaders, it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. So if there is a site you really need a downloader for, you may have to try several different ones, till you find the one that works with your site.Esta valoración es de una versión anterior del complemento (220.127.116.11-signed).
A great idea!
Sadly doesn't appear to have much use _yet_.
But the idea itself is worth five stars.
And the fact that the extension seems to be polite and leave no settings behind when uninstalled is a plus!
So close to perfect. This extension works well, but needs an option to change security levels.
Ideally you could set your security level to the maximum, and if access of a page is impossible you click the Calomel shield icon, it changes appearance (to reflect the lowered security level), and the page is reloaded with, say, a medium security level. Then if that doesn't work, you can click on the shield button and turn security all the way down (and the icon changes to show this again). And, of course, the change should only apply to the current page.
As things are, you can click to change security levels, but there doesn't seem to be any obvious way to, at a glance, tell what the settings are at the moment.
Would be nice if it were restartless, though.
Also, the interface is a bit too 'nested' for my taste (a good example of something like this done rather compactly is SSleuth, which has all the information in one window, with boldface to make important things stand out - but that extension does not have the on/off options or the add-on bar display that CipherFox Secure has - so it is a trade-off one way or the other ...)
You might want to add contact information to the extension page (for possible bug reports).
The extensions leaves behind some settings when uninstalled, which is slightly annoying.
