Video DownloadHelper

Divorced with Download managers Puntuado con 1 de 5 estrellas

Although I submitted this review a few weeks back, it still applies to Version 5.2!!!!!

I used to relied on the VDH and DTA marriage to get an on-line media, for DTA's on-the-fly renaming, folder reassignment, and retracing back to the origin should the DL failed in some way, but now the merriage's gone, and I even cannot find the little rotating triangle on the menu bar when I first came to look at the newly upgraded VDH interface!

Luckily, you can always roll back to older versions (<5 that are), just look for the (other/older versions) somewhere in the "home" page of this addons. I did, and it's a happy marriage AGAIN!

Maybe it's the new guidelines for add-on design from Mozilla.org, but a lot of addons for Mozilla softwares are not as "convenient" they used to be.

Open In Chrome

User Interface Puntuado con 3 de 5 estrellas

I used ie-view from ff's version still in lower single digits, and it has an context menu entry in the client area of the active tab.

Although this "Open In Chrome" functions like ie-view, but I have hard time finding it, let alone uising it. Because I'm used to the context menu interface, and "Open In Chrome" has no context menu entry!

Off the topic, nothing personal:

I think this mozilla ff has one ultimate goal: to provide a seamless and convenient interface to the user, no matter how complex the addin components structure is (for a tolerable one at least!). I used to be, and still be a keyboard guy, meaning that I'd rather use keyboard strokes to achieve a objective than mouse movements+clicks. Through the years, mozilla ff has made me believe to an extent that other than the shortcut-keys, the right-click of the mouse will bring up a whole lot of goodies.

There is a catch here: most authors of the addins (I chose to add) have a dangerous assumption that the users will activate the addin (functionality) through a right-click of the mouse, or at least looking for it on the Tools menu! So they forget to write this most important part on the description.

As a seasoned used of ff, I was trained through trial and error to think and do this way, but for a green user, this is definitive not the case. Think of this nail-biter situation: hmmm... no sign whats so ever of the brielliant addin I've just downloaded, did I do it right or something went wrong...

My point is:

Can the top brasses of the foundation or ar least of the development groups make a mandate that there must at least be a terse textual description on the home page on how to activate the addins, not just a bunch of (low res) poor screen captures with annotation, or open a web page guide on the inital successful activation and the every following update activation. There are many ways to get an addon doing its purposes, how 'bout trying the most convenient, obvious and common ones.

Menu Editor

Save/load menu settings? Puntuado con 3 de 5 estrellas

I'm still shopping around among many addins, for the most appropriated addins for menu ordering.

One little question: can this addin carry the menu settings over to multiple FF and its spin-offs like "backup-restore settings" like add-block or "import/export" in NoScript?

Print Edit

Box size pt2 Puntuado con 4 de 5 estrellas

I am thinking about tinkering the document by using firebug or webdeveloper to modify the CSS properties of the main article before invoking PrintEdit,

What does PrintEdit process, the original doc or edited (in core) copy?
Will it possible to bypass the preset box dimensions?

PS: Sorry, I cannot reply to nobody@mozilla.org,

Print Edit

Enlarging Box Sizes, Visual editing Puntuado con 4 de 5 estrellas

Is there any way that I can change the size of boxes within this addon?

Because most of the sites tends to use side bars or side panels on both side of display area, thus leaving less printing width for the main topics and more paper pages coming out.

Also, is there a visual mode for editing?

I am thinking of resize, reposition, ... the pages

Another safeguard feature:
Post a waring before leaving the print layout mode, and waring about the lost of all editing

FireGestures

Graphic path Puntuado con 3 de 5 estrellas

It would be better if you attach a picture that portray the path of "HOT POINT" along with your gestures, After all, you can memorize a graphic image better than lines of javascript or cryptic UDRLs,

I cannot imagine how you accomplish all these gestures without first look up the configuration.table, it's even hard for a new comer,

I used mouse gestures redux for a long time, from 2.x till now, I switch to firegestures back and fotrh because the response of MGR is erratic, and error prone, and the update is just a literal not a actual modification of the codes to conform with the new API, but I like the extra four more stroke directions.

In my opinion, MGR is the best, I cannot browse the web without a gesture tool, so I switch to the second best.

Download Manager Tweak

Puntuado con 5 de 5 estrellas

This addon is great, with a lot of bells and whistles for me, an old school web user.Is there any chance in the future to add average and/or maximum download speeds and total time elapsed for EVERY download like download them all, either on the fly or in summary?Because the bandwidth of many file hosts change wildly in different time of a day in the network I'm in.I can decide which host to get a file based on this info. Thanks again for such a wonderful addon

Graphic for gestures Puntuado con 3 de 5 estrellas

It would be nice if you can draw pictures for all preset gestures, categorized preferably.

FireFTP

Puntuado con 3 de 5 estrellas

I am sorry to say that for a long period, FFtp won't adjust itself accordingly when FF is maximized, it used to response quite well.

Can someone check about this?.

Tab Mix Plus

Essential for a Tab based browser! Puntuado con 5 de 5 estrellas

Should FF incorporate this feature in next major release?

RPN Calculator Bar

Description Puntuado con 5 de 5 estrellas

Great add-on, I really like it.

A little suggestions:

* You should itemize all the computing capability, instead of a lot of lengthy clauses.

* Add constants like PI, e by any chance?

* Be able to repositon as side bar, very handy when it's on a wide monitor.

Password Exporter

Protected? Puntuado con 4 de 5 estrellas

This is a really cool addon, save me a lost of time copying the ID/PW fro another computer.

BUT, in my impression, both import and export is on the menu tab, anybody who knows the trick might steal your ID/password in just a click away, slight chance ruin the password database in importing a set of (fake) password.

So, my suggestion is: when exporting password, or even installing this addon, a password verification is mandatory.

How's this idea?

FireGestures

Gesture Summary and other opinions Puntuado con 4 de 5 estrellas

I used to installed mouse gesture, and now I switched to FireGestures a few hours ago.

There are so many gestures included in both extensions, some of them overlapped, and then some are different.

One that I missed in MG is that it has a graphic sidebar table lists most of the frequently used gestures, and some examples in the mozdev.org, but I cannot find any under your home page and the option/setting menus. I am not complaining about this shortcoming, but a global prespective will improve the productivity of switching over from MG.

I am sure some of the FG users are veteran MG users, maybe they have the same trouble.

It will be nice if you add a little more info about the gesture definitions, a cross reference will even better.

One more suggestion is that I have a few FF installation with MG in PCs at home and in the office, it has an inport/export feature that can synchronize the definitions in all installations, can you consider adopting this feature in the next update?
