didn't work for Dailymotion - now works 2015-10-15 with version 5.5.0a10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars
while it does work for Youtube - it doesn't work for Dailymotion
the videos on the page aren't detected.
untested on other sites
on the youtube video I tested on it didn't leave a watermark (as far as I could see - I might have been looking in the wrong spot?)

Please comment the dailymotion fix at https://groups.google.com/d/msg/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/9jo07yAP-1A/6OFfyinsCAAJ"
it looks like there is already comments there
I've noticed to my horror that dailymotion is now making it near impossible to d/l it'svideo content from it's site since the TPP (SOPA on steroids) became a reality last week and now this is all it does instead of giving you any choices in video content to download it now merely records the stream which is a slow & painful process, see attached screen cap.
My Firefox is the current version & Video Downloadhelper is vers 5.5.0a9 which I believe is a developer alpha.
Any ideas for a fix to counteract whatever dailymotion has done to thwart the d/l it's content?
I would suggest if your getting others with the same issue as I have to remove dailymotion from the supported list till a solution can be found.
Thanks for reporting.
I confirm there is currently a problem with Dailymotion. I investigate on the issue.

I don't think there is any TPP involved here. Just an engineering change at Dailymotion.
Could you install version 5.5.0a10 from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/versions/ and let us know if it now works for you ?"
" Version 5.5.0a10 Released October 14, 2015 603.0 kB Works with Firefox 36.0 and later
Fixes October 2015 changes in Dailymotion. "
works for me currently for Dailymotion site
raised stars back up to 4 (I might give it a 5 later, assuming I don't find any other issues)
was Good but now not yet working for Firefox 40 Rated 2 out of 5 stars
as mentioned by others recently, this doesn't work yet for the recent versions of Firefox 39 and 40 - it doesn't seem to have been updated since 2013 December 29 (Version 22.214.171.124) - so it is approaching 2 years out of date.
It started to have issues up until at least Firefox 36 (but still worked via a work-around (start download, view download queue, then close and reopen Firefox).
At the present it doesn't even allow the download button to be enabled.
working version would have had 4-5 stars
currently only 2 or less since it doesn't work

I tried video-downloadhelper ... it also is unable to do Dailymotion
so I am suspecting the site, Dailymotion, might have changed their permissions to block this sort of thing?
works but has a significant issue Rated 3 out of 5 stars
I noticed a previous review
by Jappie on March 15, 2015 · permalink · translate
"Some people mention the problem the download might not start and seams to be frozen by trying to download @ 0 bytes. I had the same problem and could solve it by restarting firefox. afterwards, it worked fine for me - every time I had this problem."
I have verified the issue that Jappie mentioned occurs and also that their workaround method works ... but it is a hassle to need to restart Firefox
pro: works, simple
con: buggy download start, ugly button
update - the download @ 0 bytes is happening EVERYTIME now ...and the workaround is getting to be too annoying to deal with (downgrading Rating)
update 2 - it does however allow for multiple downloads to be 'queued' and thus continued when the user restarts firefox ...still annoying to need to do so in the first place ... I don't remember needing to do so with an earlier version sometime last year
addon that needs another app? Rated 1 out of 5 stars
complains with a message
"This operation needs to have a converter installed on your system to aggregate the video and audio streams."
it might work with the EXTRA 'converter' installed, but I am not going to bother with it.
Firefox 36.0.4 - no button Rated 1 out of 5 stars
