My Reviews

Dictionary Switcher

It causes the content process to crash Rated 1 out of 5 stars

When I type in a text field it causes the content process to crash when I type in textfields when electrolysis is enabled.
So I guess it's incompatible with e10s and needs an update otherwise it causes constant crashes.
It also fails to switch dictionaries on ever more pages.

HTML5 Video Everywhere!

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Good idea, but apparently MSE based resolutions are missing.
Also not all videos work. For example VEVO videos.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.2.31).

Always on Top

It works okay. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

However sometimes the icon and the state it shows gets messed up. Particularly when break of a tab to create a new window.
I also whish it was restartless I scarcely need it so I could just enable it on demand.

Dictionary Switcher

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This desperately needs an update for some (I guess) never kind of textfields. For example the youtube (g+) comments.
Switching simply isn't performed. The last used dictionary - in a textfield where this addon works - will be the one used.

Linkificator

Not quite as good as Text Link. Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I gave this a try when Text Link stopped functioning on nightly. It works but often doesn't linkify the whole url only a part of it which results in junk. There were numerous occasions. It seemed to me that it tends to ignore both the front and the end of an url in these cases. The one example I remember is when it ignored everything before "google" in a "code.google.com" url.

Focus Regainer

Pretty much useless now. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This addon was always a little troubled. some flash videos failed to load when enabled. Dailymotion, this website: http://toni.org/a3d/
But now after upgrading to FF34 youtube videos don't load either. And since that's mainly where I use flash which is probably true to most FF users I can't have it enabled. Sad, because it's function was greatly desired.

Edit: Cool. Even the websites that were alway broken by this addon work now.

MPC-YT

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

It doesn't work at all on my default profile, it works with a new profile.
Nothing happens when I click on the menu item.
On the new profile the menu-item only appeared on the search page, but no the video page.
Only plays up to 720p streams, higher res streams are ignored.
It hangs mpc-be when I try to load a vevo video.

MPC-HC/MPC-BE can play dash AV: http://www.svp-team.com/wiki/SVPtube#YouTube_and_1080p
I can verify that it works.

VLC Youtube Shortcut

Good, but missing resolutions. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It works smoothly, but only plays up to 720p quality.
It would be perfect if it could handle sending the dash A/V streams to VLC so that we could always enjoy the best quality.

Element Inspector

It's great but there are issues post australis (ff29+) Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It's really convenient addon. But there are apparently some issues arise when using with the built in element inspector. The selection gets lost all the time and the element's code is not highlighted or scrolled to. It works flawlessly in FF24

Suspend Tab

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I like to have tabs opened in the background opened unloaded and leaving the rest alone.
But with this I can only achieve it if I have everything immediately unloaded.
In my opinion it's a missing feature compared to similar addons.

Load Tab on select

Good, but there's a significant issue. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Links containing anchors don't load properly. The page isn't navigated to the anchor.
This is big problem because it's very common. Especially with forum topics where the links should take me to the newest message. (With this enabled they don't)
Also it when I try to open multiple tabs at once. eg: Middle clicking on a bookmark folder. Only the first tab is opened.

Menu Wizard

Great! Multiselect missing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Finally a replacement for menueditor. It has more functionality like adding folders, renaming deselecting separators.
On the other hand the missing multiselect feature makes it rather cumbersome and time consuming to use. Because you can't move related menu items simultaneously. Or (un)check them.
Some ability to search the items there can be an awful lot of them, especially with a number of addons. The browser's page search feature doesn't work on the settings tab.

Location Bar Enhancer

It looks great. Works fine. But could do with a bit more features. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I think this looks great. Especially the progress bar compared to alternatives.
What I think is missing the most is the handling of subdomains too. With "smart text" I could go to mozilla.org from addons.mozilla.org with one click. Also there's no domain highlighting, which is desired, for better distinguishability between the domain and subdomains.
Another useful thing that's missing is to set the ctrl+click/middle click tab opening to a background tab. Sometimes I want to open multiple segments, plus I set anything else to open in the background.

Some ability to change the font would be nice. For some reason with smart text the urlbar text had a lot better readability even though I have the same font forced by css (DejaVu Sans). With this, other addons or without urlbar addons it looks worse.

(I tried enforcing a larger text size but the results weren't as good, don't know why.)

Flashblock

Broken Rated 2 out of 5 stars

It's not updated and hopelessly broken these days. Fails loading the video on metacafe when I click. Some times just got whitelisted by themselves and I couldn't untick it on the flashblock button. They didn't even appear in the list in the settings window. I had to delete the whitelist.
It started blocking the pdf viewer plugin once and I had to click three times for the document to load.

Go Parent Folder

An essential extension. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It's great. It adds a feature long missing in firefox. Improves the usability of bookmarks immensely.
The only thing it lack is localization. It looks odd with a different language.

Color That Site!

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It's a neat tool. What I miss is a generic feature to replace all black text white background with something more pleasant. Unfortunately most website default to this stupid eyesore look.

Focus Regainer

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

It's getting broken. Some videos don't load anymore, but only play with a black screen. (eg.: dailymotion.com )
Too bad it's not updated, it was a highly useful extension.
Also it would have been nice if it worked with other embedded content not just flash.

Download Panel Tweaks

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great. The only thing I miss is the ability to retain the downloads even when firefox is closed and restarted. Firefox by default purges the list...

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.2).

QuickToolbars

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Unfortunately it's a bit buggy. Hiding the menubar (default: alt+2) hides it and switches to the firefox button, but it doesn't bring it back.

Hiding everything (default: alt+6) only hides the tab bar temporarily, until I open a new tab or close one. Plus you can't hide the tabbar alone
