My Reviews

Flagfox

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I'm a big fan of Flagfox but I can currently only give it 4-stars because I'm "forced" to also use 'ShowIP' extension to meet my needs.

Reading the 'Developer Comments' section, I see that someone asked about displaying the IP address in the statusbar, and the reply from you is (disappointingly): "it's useless. It's just a number".

The whole point of Flagfox is to provide AWARENESS & PEACE-OF-MIND, yes? Well, seeing the IP address in the statusbar is apparently reassuring to the almost 2.5-million people who've downloaded 'ShowIP', and as I said, I'm one of them. I place them side by side and they make a great team. But I'm always looking for ways to cut down on the number of extensions I have installed..

I could mouse-over the flag and see the IP # but seeing it next to the flag is easier. I have the statusbar space, it doesn't hurt anything and seeing the IP number at the bottom of the window is an effortless way of verifying whether network activity is suspicious or legit.

I'm not good at making extensions so appreciate your work & time for whatever you provide, but Is it really that much trouble to add an option to display the IP # next to the flag for users who wish to display it that way?

I like my number in red, by the way though I'm sure others have their own preference! :)

Thanks for reading, I hope you at least re-consider it.

Wolfram Alpha Google

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I've had this extension installed for months, and while it works as advertised and it's pretty cool, truth is that my Google searches rarely have a Wolfram-Alpha equivalent, so I've only ever seen the W-A results on the right side of the screen a handful of times. But that's not the extension's fault. So I say good job to the author for the idea and to readers of this review who haven't yet installed the extension, it's worth a look, at least, so give it a download and give it a try.

One minor complaint: Please don't force users to add an icon to their statusbar - provide an option for statusbar icon OR toolbar icon. Thanks.

v3.6 review, plus edit - thanks for fix in v3.7 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I saw the v3.6 update for this today and thought "Oh good, finally it might be fixed", as I could never get it to work before (no 'Open with' entries where they should be). After restarting, I was disappointed to see no change. I read the reviews here of people complaining it didn't work and the author's reply. So, I created a fresh Profile and installed it first. Lo-and-behold, it works. Next, I set about identifying the extension that was evidently conflicting. Got it first time - Tab Mix Plus. Looked at this extension's code but don't really know what is the problem.

So, I give this extension 3.5 stars (rounded up to 4) - it works, and the auto-detect installed browsers works nicely with IE and Google Chrome. But as it doesn't work when TMP is enabled it unfortunately means it is currently worthless for a lot of Firefox users such as myself, so I take off 1 star. And as there's currently no 'open with' submenu option..I take off a half star. Please, extension authors - if your extension has the potential to add >1 item to a menu, put it in a submenu, or at least give us the option to do so.

Thanks! Hope you can get the TMP thing figured out soon!

EDIT: Thanks for the prompt reply to the above comments and for your prompt release of v3.7 that has FINALLY made this extension usable for me and other Tab Mix Plus users. It works!

Intelligent Middle Clickums

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Oh wow.. I've been hoping to see an updated version of 'Smart Middle Click' for AGES, and here it is! Installed it, tested it out on 2 pages so far, seems to work great. I wish this was a standard feature of Firefox, so everyone could benefit without ever having to track down an extension and hope it remains updated. Now I want to find some other pages with javascript links just so I can use this extension!! Thanks so much!!

I've fixed the problem that was making the extension not work in Firefox 3.5.x and have also updated the maxversion for Firefox 3.5.* and Flock 2.5 (though I have not tested it in Flock).

Glazoom

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I've had this extension installed a long time but finally had to Disable it as I've simply run out of Statusbar room, and there is (up to v0.24 anyhow) no way to move the Zoom panel to the Toolbar.

To be honest, I'd prefer a compact button that simply showed the current zoom level, and left-clicking it would zoom-OUT, right-clicking would zoom-IN, and middle-clicking would bring up the pop-up. (or middle-click as reset with a dropdown arrow on the side for the popup).

Copy and Paste

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

(v0.914) Does exactly what it says it should do.

However.. that means it currently only copies TEXT but not bitmaps(images) -- which would be nice to have.

Also, having automatic 'push' of ALL 'Copy' and 'Cut' data across the 'Copy and Paste network' is a bit of an undesirable privacy issue for me -- it's fine if it's just 2 computers sitting in front of you but for example in an office or family home-use situation, this extension could be useful for quickly sharing a link or a piece of text to someone across the room or building, but you don't want to be HIJACKING the other peoples' clipboards ALL day, EVERY day, EVERY TIME you copy or cut something on your own computer. Therefore, an option to turn off automatic 'push' and instead use a toolbar 'send' button or similar menu command would be preferable.

Good idea and nice job though -- I love the 'Mirror contacts out' feature. (I added my own IP to my list before sending it out so all computers would have my IP too).

Tab URL Copier

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

(v 1.1.9) Like the last 2 reviews before me, "Open Tabs From the Clipboard" doesn't work properly for me -- testing the source code as a mouse gesture I discovered that it's the Windows delimiter "\r\n" that is messing things up (concatenating them into 1 item) -- all it seems to need is "\n" to properly separate the clipboard's urls.

So for now, going into the extension's Options and changing to the UNIX/Linux type seems to do the trick..

Other than that, nice job!

Session Manager

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Firefox's built in "When Firefox starts.. load my windows and tabs from last time" option is rather lame, as it assumes users will *always* want to start up with the same behaviour.

A Firefox developer posting on Mozillazine once told me that (an option) to have per-session chance to restore tabs and/or windows would be "an incredibly annoying, invasive, stupid design decision" and that as such they "most definitely" would NOT be implementing such a thing.

Looking at the # of downloads of this extension (currently 1,297,440), I'd say a heck of a lot of people disagree.

Session Manager has always been great to have, but since v0.6.3 it's now even better as you can choose which tabs to open, or not open (which is great if one tab is crashing the browsing). Thanks!

Knights

Nice little game. Don't know about "addictive" (as rveejay says) -- it only took me 3 tries to get the maximum possible score of 64. But the challenge was fun while it lasted!

bug295977(DIV Autoscroll)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

There's nothing worse that middle-clicking in a text area hoping to autoscroll it and having the entire page move instead!

Thanks to White Alice0775, yet another long-time Bug has been FIXED!! (or worked around).

Hopefully your patch will be included in the Firefox sourcecode soon so that no extension install will be necessary.

I made a testcase webpage so Firefox users can see see how Firefox behaves 'before' and 'after' the install of this extension (or in another browser, such as IE, that handles autoscrolling correctly): https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=357319

CyberSearch

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

As someone else said in another review, CyberSearch finally makes the AwesomeBar AWESOME. Without this extension, you are missing out on a whole lot of efficiency.

Giving this 5-stars as CyberSearch is a "must have" already, but the one biggest improvement I can think of is an Import/Export feature so that we could load or transfer CyberSearches onto or from different computers ("select which CyberSearches to transfer"). I installed CyberSearch on my parent's computer & some friends' computers, but I keep coming up with new CyberSearches that I know they would use.

Great job anyhow, this is far better than the other awesomebar search improvement extensions.

DragToScroll

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This MUST-HAVE extension works great in Firefox3 as long as you override the compatibility checking (maxversion).

It boggles my mind how the Firefox development team, let alone any web browser designer (Opera, Google Chrome, and more) can release a browser, and release multiple new versions of the browser and not ever once said "It's important for users to be able to drag text and drop it into search boxes wherever they may be" (ie: off the top or bottom of the screen). I mean IE had this taken care of YEARS AGO.

And I find it equally amazing that there is so little fuss from users that it's not strandard and that the DragToScroll extension has so few downloads! Just 11,716 total downloads at the time of this review!

Back in July, I'd re-flagged the Bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41708 in the hopes that Firefox developers might finally get Drag n drop included in the next release... just this week, the flag was changed to '-'..... ie: "not interested"..

So sad.

Do yourself a favour everyone and install this extension.

Sneak Peek

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I installed this just to try it out, thinking it might actually be more annoying than useful, but as the functionality is site(forum-page)-specific, I'm pretty happy the results - I'm keeping this extension!

Determining the correct regexp's to use for each of the inputs was a little challenging, but so in a future version, a bit of automation or regexp validation might be beneficial. For now, I used http://www.regular-expressions.info/javascriptexample.html and after a bit of trial and error got a working script. The ability to install scripts via text files(either local or online) is neat, now that it's working properly (v0.9.2)

Users creating scripts should remember that most forums have a 'forums-view' and a 'show new posts' view which use different .php files, and so the regexp should do an 'OR' check (using the pipe-symbol) on both files so that the Sneak Peak will activate on both. Also, when testing script that you're making, don't forget to refresh the forum page after installing the script as it seems to only take effect upon page load.

Sneak Peak is pretty basic, but it does exactly what I need it to. Thanks Einar!
