This is great - I can now get rid of SB (Scrapbook/Scrapbook+). I've never been comfortable with my dependence on SB because the stored material can only be read with FF (Firefox) and the SB addon. With this I can store everything that SB does, and read it and share it independently of FF and the SB addon.
It works very well. The only slight "blemishes" that I've encountered are with Wiki, where it has problems with images - but that is of no consequence since Wiki produces its own pdf's.
Also, sometimes the fonts are a bit blurry. But I emphasise, these are really minor matters.
I can really recommend this addon.
My configuration: Firefox 14 running on Linux.
Excellent! It works in Linux!
Thanks to Darkoshi for the instructions. After creating the xml file in the chrome directory (which may have to be created as well), RESTART the browser.
Gemal's homepage is excellent. That is very important for a good addon - plenty of documentation.
A further improvement would be if one could also submit the url of the current page to launchy as well. But I am already very satisfied with it as it is :)
Strictly speaking, this addon should be classififed as a "Windows only" addon because the "import session" and "import group" functions rely totally on the drag'n drop function of the operating system. As power Linux users know, under Linux that function may or may not be available depending on the window manager that the user has chosen to use.
Having a button or menu option to import sessions or groups would be the correct manner to carry out these functions since then the addon is independent of the operating system (and window manager).
Making assumptions about the users operating system is bad practice.
Just downloaded and tested it - this one DOES works with the new layout! Many thanks to the developer for keeping her or his eye on developments and respsonding so quickly. :)This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3).
This is excellent!
I really have searched for years, for something like this. There used to be one, but it was only for windows and I use Linux. So, I have had to content myself with cut/paste to create the url files. Although one can automate that quite a bit, it is never fully satisfactory.
What one really needs is this extension, which does all the work, create the file and open up a file picker window so you can put it in the right directory.
The idea of "favourites" was really the only one good idea that Microsoft had ;) Much better than an HTML file or, nowadays, an sqlite file, which is even worse (and more absurd).
"i don't know so far how the corresponding Mac or Linux files look and how they react in terms of file permissions"
No problems whatsoever, prudnik. The file permissions are the user's file permissions since the program is being run by the user.
Likewise, the format of the files is perfectly ok. I use "less" and "sed" to strip out the superfluous microsoft information ("[InternetShortcut]" and "URL=") from the file - no problem for a Linux user.
Thanks again for a great addon.
"afriend", download https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/10137#version-1.8 and then look over to the right where the notes from the poster on video are - the orange button is there at the bottom of that box, followed by "Download Video As : FLV3GPMP4[?]".
BTW, for linux users, I am a linux user and it works fine - whoopee!
