Good, well done and a big thank you!

This is one of my favorite extensions for Firefox, but it's having some problems with Firefox 57.0. It seems to behave badly on some pages that redirect you at load time (unfortunately, my best example so far is a company-internal page which I can't share). I'm also getting prompted twice now when downloading things -- once to present the traditional "Open with..."/"Open in browser as"/"Save File" dialog, and then again with another "Open with..." / "Save File" dialog.

This user has a previous review of this add-on.

About the double prompting: See the add-on's description for instructions to configure Firefox to only have one prompt.

I don't understand the first thing that you are reporting (" It seems to behave badly on some pages that redirect you at load time"). Can you share more details (preferably in a Github issue or by e-mail)?

Is this supposed to work with the file:// protocol ? Trying to load markdown local file in the browser always give me the same default download dialog.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1).

No, it does not work with file://-URLs.
It is not possible to provide the same Open in Browser experience with the extension APIs either.

There are alternative ways, such as offering a file chooser and opening that in a sandboxed new tab, but other than that the options are quite limited.

PS. This does not look like a review, if you have questions or feedback, please use Github issues or e-mail instead of posting a 1-star review with a question.

I hope that something like this extension will be WebExtensions-ready, for the release of Firefox 57.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.18).

Version 2.0 of the extension has been uploaded basing on a WebExtension. You will be able to continue to use the extension with Firefox 57 and later! It requires Firefox 57 though, so for trying it out you need to update or try with a beta. I hope this could help you!

Trop bien Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Easy to install and useful everyday. Tiny & clean.
Très facile à utilisé et à installé, en plus ne prend pas de place et ne ralenti pas Firefox. Indispensable.

Hoping it will turn e10s-compliant soon! ;)

Version 2.0 of the extension is not just e10s compliant, it is also ready for Firefox 57 and later! This means that you can continue to use the extension. I hope this could help.

This is very cool. I have been looking for something like this! It should be default in Firefox!

You need this! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a brilliant little add-on. I've been yearning for something like this for years.
Of course the real fix should be on the server, where the mime type should be set to "text/plain".

is it planned to be implemented?

Thanks for the review. This feature is not implemented, that's why the option is disabled.

Such a simple thing, but it makes a world of difference when one occasionally tries to open otherwise-uncooperative files in the browser. I recommend this extension for everyone.

Nothing spectacular but a reasonably useful additional option.

So handy !
Why isn't that included by Firefox ?
Thanks for this great simple add-on.

Does exactly what it promises, is very easy to use, but has two things which are rather irritating. Actions cannot be saved, and I get the popup twice. Going through a list of plain-text .log files becomes a headache.

Great add-on Rated 5 out of 5 stars

One of the most useful addons out there. Firefox really needs some built-in flexibility regarding MIME types. Until then, please don't let this addon die!

Useful add-on but needs some features Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very helpful add-on.
But if you can add options window to set the default file type and ability to add custom file mime types would be great.
Also "Do this automatically for file like this from now on." option is greyed out when I choose open in browser so I can't set it as a default action.

This is extremely useful, as it means whenever i download a text file that's not in a .txt format [like a .sql file, for example], I can open it straight away. Great stuff.

Very useful, but lacks a few features Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great add-on, FF should have an interface for setting preferred ways to open files based on their extension. I wanted to open .java with FF as text/plain. But after playing around with mimtypes.rdf, I couldn't succeed - I still got the DL window with "Open with" and "save" and it still displayed the .java file as "JAVA file".
Open in Browser lets me open it in FF as txt, but there should be 2 more features:
1. open in new tab - if I click the .java link in a new tab, it doesn't open the file. Also, even if it did, there's a problem for JS links, which you can't open in new tab.
2. I can't tell the add-on to always open files with a certain extension the way I want.

Overall quite useful and time saving.
