Version 2.5.3 170.0 kB Works with Firefox 3.5 and later, SeaMonkey 2.0a and later

Total trackers in Ghostery v2.5.3: 518, total protected domain cookies (LSO): 345

Bug fixes in v2.5.3
- Added Firefox 4 customized button that could be dragged into any of the available toolbars.
- Fixed opening Ghostery Options page from Addon Manager.
- The number counts in all places (toolbar, options page, and update pages) is now based on the same number -- number of tracked applications.
- Applied same auto-update behavior to cookie lists as the bug lists -- if everything is selected for blocking, all new cookies will be blocked as well.
- Added upgrade migration script for 2.4+ upgrade to 2.5.3.
- Uninstall of Ghostery will now remove Ghostery folder artifacts from profile directory (unless user.db file had data).

Bug fixes in v2.5.2
- Blocking layer is now optimized to use simple string matching instead of regex when possible resulting in a faster blocking operation. This resolves issues with script not responding on larger pages.
- Re-introduced the Performance Options. While everything is on by default, user has ability to turn some of the more advanced features off speeding up Ghostery.
- Upgrade script from 2.4 branch to v2.5 for selected trackers.
- UI updates.

Bug fixes in v2.5.1
- Translation layer added in Ghostery v2.5 has caused some visual errors in the new options and blocking pages. This issue has been solved.

New features and changes in v2.5
- Added cookie protection that looks for cookie transactions (add & edit) and then compares it to the LSO domain list. If a protected LSO is encountered, Ghostery will deny any change and remove the cookie. This is added through a new "experimental" cookie protection checkbox in Ghostery Options. Denied cookies are listed in the block log.
- Options and blocking pages have been updated to use HTML instead of Firefox UI components (XUL) -- this gives us a more consistent look and feel across Firefox, Safari and Chrome. Additionally, this resolves the issue with displays being too small to see Save and Cancel buttons in Options.
- Added redirection tracking and blocking. This resolves some of the trackers from slipping in when a page issues a 3XX redirect.
- Added support for examining Flash (and other) sub-object requests. This allows the requests blocked but not found in DOM to be correctly reported.
- Whitelisting has been improved to include any potential frames of a whitelisted parent site. Relaxed whitelisting to be less strict: for example, whitelisting ghostery.com will be applied to www.ghostery.com and apps.ghostery.com.
- Groundwork is laid in for user created/maintained tracker lists. This functionality is included in v2.5 branch, tho the UI hasn't been implemented yet.

Version 2.3.1 111.6 kB Works with Firefox 3.0 - 4.0b8pre, SeaMonkey 2.0a - 2.1b2

New Features in v2.3

- Configuration wizard to help introduce users to options that might not be familiar;
- Update to blocking behavior - if all bugs are selected to be blocked, then new bugs added in remote updates are blocked by default as well;

- Ghostery initial walk-through only opens a single window;
- Initial walk-through is only shown for people with brand new Ghostery installation;

Version 2.2.1 87.0 kB Works with Firefox 3.0 - 4.0b6pre, SeaMonkey 2.0a - 2.1b1

Total trackers in Ghostery v2.2.1: 249

New Features in v2.2:
- Web site whitelisting - gives a domain a free pass to let trackers run in cases where you trust the publisher, want to support their research, or have concerns about Ghostery affecting functionality;
- The Block Log - if you've got blocking enabled, Ghostery may actually be busier than you think - it's occasionally difficult to report back into the friendly purple box all of the scripts that Ghostery kept from running. The "block log" keeps a record of everything Ghostery blocks (across all the tabs you have open) so you can check out Ghostery's activity in all of its busybody glory. It's available in the Tools -> Ghostery menu;
- Performance options panel with GhosteryLite mode - turns off some detection and extra goodies in favor of performance. You won't notice or block as many trackers, but for users looking for ultra-quick performance will see a 15% faster Ghostery over full featured mode (a full 23% faster over previous versions);
- Tab switching is now disconnected from page scanning;
- Look and Feel option panel - allows for purple alert to be re-positioned;
- Fixed a couple of detection scripts to eliminate some troublesome false positives (blocking Facebook Connect no longer keeps Facebook from operating, etc);

Improvements and bug fixes in v2.2.1:
- adding ability to whitelist local files per http://getsatisfaction.com/ghostery/topics/cant_add_a_file_url_to_the_whitelist
- Ghostery reporting now supports recognizing frame in frame web-bugs
- added support for Firefox 4 betas
- added support for SeaMonkey 2.0 and 2.1

Note on whitelisting:
Adding sample-site.com to the whitelist will not automatically make sub-domains of sample-site.com whitelisted. So, if you have added sample-site.com to whitelist, but you are browsing www.sample-site.com, Ghostery will assume that www.sample-site.com is not in the whitelist and will execute on the site until you add www.sample-site.com to the whitelist as well.

Version 2.2 87.0 kB Works with Firefox 3.0 - 3.6.*

Total trackers in Ghostery v2.2: 243

New Features in v2.2:
- Web site whitelisting - gives a domain a free pass to let trackers run in cases where you trust the publisher, want to support their research, or have concerns about Ghostery affecting functionality;
- The Block Log - if you've got blocking enabled, Ghostery may actually be busier than you think - it's occasionally difficult to report back into the friendly purple box all of the scripts that Ghostery kept from running. - Fixed a couple of detection scripts to eliminate some troublesome false positives (blocking Facebook Connect no longer keeps Facebook from operating, etc);

Improvements in v2.2:
Bug fixes in this release:
- really removed the need for Firefox restart when (un)blocking a tracker or any other option updates;
- igoogle and facebook reporting and loading should finally be resolved;
- tab switching and general browsing UI reporting is now fixed: you should only see bugs for that page and not any others;
- img scanning and blocking from the same domain is now ignored;
