Rated 5 out of 5 stars
seems goodThis review is for a previous version of the add-on (6.3.2).
No way Rated 1 out of 5 stars
Two reasons to avoid this addon, above all
1. It is impossible to setup the addon without connection to their site
2. Leaks to google
I must admit that this addon, with disabled ghostrank, was quite decent before version 6. But with enabled ghostrank it becomes just another tracker, gathering data even from sites without trackers, i.e. all your browsing data.
It is staggering to recognize that your privacy protection software actually notifies Google, the most offensive, intrusive, privacy violating corp on the planet, of the identifiable information about every user of your product.
Discovering that your browser based configuration program uses fonts.googleapis.com, and by doing so provides Google the IP address of every user using your software to minimize the amount of digital stalking they're subjected to, just goes to show how much Ghostery 6 deserves all the recent 1-star ratings (even if you do delete them on a daily basis).
PS: The review made according a guideline.
working Rated 5 out of 5 stars
use this, why your hate workingThis review is for a previous version of the add-on (6.3.2).
It stays loyal to its premise. Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Ghostery stays loyal to its premise, and is an amazing add-on in regards to effectively identifying each tracker and blocking them. I tested browsing with only Ghostery turned on, and then with no add-ons at all, and I could tell the difference in page loading times in an instant.
Its tracker library is also very impressive, and gives the user an idea of what they're getting themselves into when installing the add-on.
Like NoScript, it blocks some scripts and sometimes even advertisements. Because of this, I was able to access a site usually filled with intrusive advertisements that expects the user to block them, and while they didn't show up, I could access it nonetheless. I tried accessing the same site without Ghostery, and this time Adblock turned on, and my access was restricted.
Possibly the best add-on I ever used Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Privacy is key. Ghostery is possibly the best way to protect it online. It's also always great to see who is tracking you. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (6.3.2).
Jetpack Problems Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Exeptional add-on that give me more control over the contents i want to load\see on a page.
Unfortunately some browsers like PaleMoon, that i use, are removing JetPack for various motives (PM is doing it cause it have lost most of the initial purposes being put in the FF code) and from the next version there will be no way to use Ghostery on PaleMoon.
Can you do something about this like making a working version for Pale Moon or trasforming it in a non-jetpack extension?
If not i will be really sad cause this is a relly great extension and it hurt me see the recension page vandalized as it is, i signalled the most annoying user but i hope something more will be done by Mozilla.
Like it. A LOT! Rated 4 out of 5 stars
It may slow pages down a teeny bit (NOTE: I have not run any tests, just from general observation, with all its inherent biases), but it is worth it to see the whole list of trackers and turn them all or off as I please.
1 point unhappily deducted from rating because of that observed slowdown, and because I cannot give them a half star rating...
Quietly block the trackers Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Take back control. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (6.3.2).
Annoying popups Rated 2 out of 5 stars
It removed the option to control notifications. I don't want popups showing up on my browser all the time on every page I go to.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (6.3.2).
Confusing UI and Cloud-based Settings Rated 1 out of 5 stars
Even lay users of privacy add-ons prefer local settings for, well, privacy purposes. Having cloud-based settings completely defeats the purpose of having a privacy add-on!
Additionally, the UI has been completely rearranged! Long-time users will find this utterly confusing, especially considering the lay-out resembles Android apps, which is completely foreign to anyone NOT using Android apps!
The i/o switches are ambiguous, and there are no easy ways to determine whether trackers are actually blocked or not.
Basically, this add-on only fills a purpose of INFORMATION. Well, any semi-savvy user can right-click to page information and Google questions regarding cross-site requests, cookie information, and scripts.
Mostly unobtrusive Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Highly effective, and mostly unobtrusive. Only messages about updates and configuring new functionality.
Works good for me Rated 4 out of 5 stars
I've read reviews that claim Ghostery slows down FireFox. For me, it is the opposite. Ads, and etcetera, slow my browser to a crawl on some websites. Ghostery speeds it up big time. Plus, I don't have to deal with annoying pop-ups that block what I am trying to read or click.
The only negative thing I have to say is that Ghostery should block new websites' trackers by default, rather than have me go into the GUI and then it refresh the page.
The GUI is easy to use and explains what may be needed for certain functions, like watching videos.
It used to have an annoying red list display what trackers are being blocked, which would prevent me from clicking certain things until it disappeared, but I haven't seen that in a while so they must have fixed it in a previous update.
I give it 4 stars as it currently is for doing what it's designed to do, but not 5 stars because it should block certain things by default. I mean, that is what people use it for.
Slowing down Firefox Rated 4 out of 5 stars
It seems to be slowing down Firefox, mainly on startup. Latest version on Linux. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (6.3.1).
Somewhat sceptical that it asks for your private information during setup, which is what the app protects against. But really polished addon. Rated 4 out of 5 stars
It seems a little ironic that Ghostery asks to opt you into you providing your private information, despite the apps purpose being to protect users from trackers. Great addon though, just wish the developer wouldn't word the opt in so sensationally. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (6.3.1).
Very good Rated 4 out of 5 stars
Set and forget. Blocks well, you can opt out of reports and personal tracking and it blocks more "ghosts" than AvastThis review is for a previous version of the add-on (6.3.1).
Meh... Rated 2 out of 5 stars
What can I say. To me it works not the way I want. This plug-in is website-oriented. Despite all the options it lacks granularity. I want to be able to block specific parts of trackers of a website, whatever the tracker(s) may do. Without this option implemented in some reasonable way, this plug-in is too cumbersome for my taste. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (6.3.1).
