My Reviews

Searchbar Autosizer

Excellent idea, works well Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Only found out about this yesterday after submitting my own script to userstyles, doing a very similar thing, but this' still a smart solution to have more room for the urlbar.

My script cant autoresize, but has expand on hover and is still partially compatible with this, if you choose clear search query after submitting, which isnt the best trade off cause checking last search query is why youd want expand on hover most of the time

Anyway added instructions to use that script with this addon installed if anyones interested to try it. In practice the main difference other than the trade off is when its shrunk, you see the active search engine icon instead of this addons Go button. Can check it out here http://userstyles.org/styles/96225/search-and-url-bar-tweaks

About Pages

Mozilla needs to update its listing of this, isnt compatible with Fx 26, 25 or anything over 15 Rated 1 out of 5 stars

First it doesnt install, and trying to spoof the install.rdf or using the addon to ignore version compatibility will just kill Fx, need to hard shutdown, dont try it, dont listen to previous reviewer. Its a good addon idea, but needs to be stripped down and remade compatible for current versions newer than 15.0

History Submenus Ⅱ

Excellent Rated 5 out of 5 stars

very clever history sorting, and recommend using a menu bar dropdown addon for the taskbar. Personal Menu adds one, but also does alotof other things; Custom Buttons 'My Menu Buttons' by Darkmatter lets you add individual buttons for each of the menus, so can just add the history button for a cleaner approach, but suggest disabling this addon first if you do, install that button then reactivate this, might glitch otherwise showing two sets of the days. Thanks

Unsorted Bookmarks Folder Menu

Simple but worthy feat Rated 5 out of 5 stars

without this, having unsorted entries in the bookmarks taskbar button or menubar is pretty pointless unless you actually want Library opened up, this is a good solution Thanks.

btw heres a slightly (lol) expanded and modified version of the script above im using, cleans things right up, eg http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/4678/xpfu.png

Layout Plan (Menu on Titlebar)

partly works, partly broken Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Dont click the 'Reset Toolbar Layout' options, itll just deactivate the menu bar menus, greying them out and youll have to restart the browser to restore them.

Have only tried this on Palemoon 24 (new profile) but expect itll behave the same on Firefox 25, will check later and update if any different.

Also, when you untick 'Menu in Titlebar' and the browser windows maximized, and you have 'tabs on top' set, the tabs should be repositioned to sit next to the Firefox button in the top row, but this addon keeps tabs in the second row, as if the windows minimized.

So if you can live with tabs never being on the top row next to the Firefox button, and remember to stay away from the Reset Toolbar Layout options works fine, and like that when it shows the menu bar menus, will also keep the Firefox button menu showing, the normal way Firefox hides it when showing the menu bar's annoying, this way better

Image Zoom

needs to be simplified Rated 2 out of 5 stars

have to rate this low even tho its a great idea cause ive found it impossible to use, and couldnt understand the setup options, so hoped the default configuration would be ok, but its not, theres caveats to what happens when you resize images even just clicking the plus icon to enlarge them as you normally can without this addon, where images will always get locked on the enlarged size or the smaller size until you choose a custom image size from the context menu, but even that doesnt seem to show correct sizes, so i dont even know how to choose 100% to get 100%. Just seems to have too many features that screw with the funtionality

WorkspaceHopper

Brilliant Rated 5 out of 5 stars

have wanted a way to jump between tabs for ages, and adding the feature to jump between tabs and menu popups is genius. thanks

edit: hey, just meant when you open a menu, like an addon options menu or the Library which are popups, clicking Pause will minimize the menu and focus back on the current tab like you explain in the description, but also does the same between two popup menus again as you explain, minimize one, minimize the other by repressing Pause. its a good shortcut

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0).

OmniSidebar

Brilliant Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Finally something to make the sidebar a floatable, resizable, multi taskable option, that can also open/close moving the cursor off screen, this works very well, tho the aero styles not my favorite, eg do like the style Tab Scope uses, more like window normal aero, but personal taste. Would also be good if theres a way to stop browser background flashing before they load, tends to vary from half a second to a few, its still fine but adding the following line to userChrome.css or a Stylish script sorts it out

browser {
background-color: transparent !important; }

you could also add

#bookmarksPanel, #history-panel {
background: transparent !important; }

which if the sidebars docked, will show a loop of your lightweight theme as the sidebar background. Things like https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/brushed-16080/ work well, anything without a focus point and consistent colors the whole height cause it takes the height (300px) and repeats it vertically

back on topic, was thinking another feature that'd be great is if the twin sidebar, (or main sidebar when on the right) could have its right edge moved away from the browser windows right edge so itd sit to the right of the scroll bar, letting you still scroll with it open, not sure it can be done but an idea

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.2).

2 Pane Bookmarks

Brilliant Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Improves the side bar menu a thousand fold, is sorely needed and works perfectly, its also compatible with OmniSidebar. Thanks

@cmr, you need to troubleshoot the issue (test it on a new profile etc) not give this a 1 star review, thats just bad form, the right click context menu in bookmarks pane still shows up for me in two profiles, and will update this if it turns out to be a problem in any others or other browser clones, so suspect your issues from something else (eg, found what you describe in the menubar bookmarks when using Compact Menu 3 which isnt available on AMO, was only released to make a few bugfixes years ago for Compact Menu 2, *but* with that, the context menu in bookmarks sidebar still showed up). You might even find restarting the browser fixes it

Hide Caption Titlebar Plus

Actually brilliant if configured right Rated 5 out of 5 stars

and not sure what dudipunk meant that its not compatible with Fx 25, its working fine at my end.

The Firefox menu bars always been a bugbear how bad it is, and never understood why they havent addressed it, but this addons an elegant solution, and the resized minimize/maximize/close buttons have been something ive wanted for awhile, shortof reskining windows itself, so also welcome. Fwiw, still prefer using the newer Firefox 'menu button' menu, but to allow the 'menu bar' to popup the way this does, giving access to both at the same time is good, also looks good with a font change like http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/1605/r2zr.png - if you wanto try that, see the script below, can be added to a userChrome.css in your profile chrome folder or added as a Stylish script

but if using a persona probably need to change the themes "textcolor" to #000000 in about:config for the "lightweightThemes.usedThemes" prompting HCTP to render a white background, otherwise its black. Just click that entry and use the arrow till the first instance of "textcolor" appears which'll be your active theme, (and it wont change the backing till youve swapped that theme out and back) script:

menubar > menu {
color: #282828 !important;
font-family: Lucida Console !important;
font-weight: normal !important;
text-shadow: -1px 0px 1px rgba(255, 230, 150, .8), -1px 1px 1px #444444 !important; }

menubar > menu[_moz-menuactive="true"][open="false"] {
color: #282828 !important;
font-family: Lucida Console !important;
font-weight: normal !important;
text-shadow: -1px 0px 1px rgba(255, 230, 150, .8), -1px 1px 1px #444444 !important; }

menubar > menu[_moz-menuactive="true"][open="true"] {
color: #282828 !important;
font-family: Lucida Console !important;
font-weight: normal !important;
text-shadow: -1px 0px 1px rgba(255, 230, 150, .8), -1px 1px 1px #444444 !important; }

can also set it to look heavier by changing font weight to bold. And if you stop using this addon, might find the beige shadow color 255 230 150 (FFE696) looks too obvious with some lightweight themes, cause the menus rendered on the theme itself, so added transparency option to tone it down if necessary where .8 means 80% opacity

anyway thanks DarthMadara

Homepage New Tab

Like it but a few issues Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This has simplicity down pat, but does have a few issues: it changes the new tab button setting to go to about:home which'd be fine if you never intend to use about:newtab, but just need to rig the about:home button to open in a new tab to replicate what it offers if that what you wanted

and when you drag bookmarks to the quick link grid on about:home, they dont add/replace the grid spots you drag them to, it just launches the bookmark url, so you'll still need to use about:newtab for that, but now youll have to type the url manually, or change the setting back in about:config (or use TMP etal)

when you open the grid on about:newtab, it creates a small glitch on about:home, but only needs the grid toggled on/off to fix, or to remember to close the grid when finished with it on about:newtab, but will happen every time you access about:newtab instead of about:home

theres also a basic problem adding the about:newtab grid to other pages like about:home (not just this addon) if you wanto use image backgrounds, cause when ones been set for about:newtab, itll also show up on the grid equivalent on about:home as a partial image, and wont remain in the same spot when you open/close the grid, so cant line it up with the same image loaded seperately on about:home (if you tried that for a dirty fix). Otoh, if you render the about:home page on about:newtab, such as New Tab Tools does theres no conflict for using image backgrounds on both pages

TLDR: has that image background limitation for about:newtab, but might be the better option as it can at least combine about:home and about:newtab Stylish scripts on the home page, something not sure can be done on newtab page using addons like NTT

Thanks

edit: you welcome, and didnt mean to make it sound like a beta build or anything, just found it interesting to mention the quirks, usually dont realize stuff till after posting a review if i post one. anyway hope it helped

Extension Options Menu

Very clever Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Just installed this along with Themes menu without realizing theyre from the same author, and instantly love em both. Am also using Cleanest Addon Manager, and Add-ons Context Menu, which are both brilliant but Extension Options Menu adds a whole new level to ease of access. Thanks

btw a suggestion to improve the options menu: http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/8922/wvhe.png - personally i dont read things close enough sometimes and was surprised when that second last option wasnt ticked and it automatically restarted on me, so thought if it were easier to see how the last two options are linked, might be better.

@SecurityExpert, the install.rdf lists compatibility from 17.0 to 22.0 and heard AMO have relaxed the version requirement checks explaining why it still installs on 25.0, but possbly not in the other direction for older versions of Firefox, so you should try changing that 17.0 to a 16.0 (on lines 222 and 229) its the addon called {1feca320-6b4d-11df-a08a-0800200c9a66}.xpi

edit: its no problem about the wording really, just thought if you updated it, may wanto tidy it up while doing compatibility changes, was a purely cosmetic suggestion and not a gripe. I dont use Australis, so this addon works without a hitch, but hope its updated soon for you

New Tab Tools

Excellent Rated 5 out of 5 stars

cant say its the best, cause its one of many, but is getting there, and found its compatible with http://userstyles.org/styles/79276/about-newtab by makondo, transforming it from http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4580/mjvi.jpg -to- http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/8552/58jr.jpg with a few tweaks to make more transparent and adding "background-position: bottom center !important;"

Fierr

Very helpful Rated 5 out of 5 stars

always glad to see this instead of the normal error page, having it auto reloads also a great feature. btw ive also made a port of this for Palemoon if you goto http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3365&p=19175 - two versions with one alittle smaller than the regular FF logo, the other alittle bigger, and gave it some shadowing, so not a flat white background (its a diy replacement of the one file in this addon so still need this)

edit, lol, i never even read the description of this addon, im embarrassed. Well at the link above, ive uploaded images of the templates used, so they can be uploaded to the custom generator, anyway. I'll mention the overlook at the forum page to clarify. thanks

Second Home Page Button

Excellent Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Liked this so much, had to make myself a clone to get me a third home page button, well worth the effort too. Interestingly in getting help with doing it, was tipped off to another very similar universal taskbar button addon called Dybutar which gives 13 resettable taskbar buttons, just like this, but lacks the simplicity of SHPB and cant create javascript bookmarklet links like javascript:(function(){window.open('https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/second-home-page-button/');})(); which let you open links in a new tab or open multiple links at once, but SHPB can.

btw checkout Extensions Option Menu, gives you a taskbar dropdown menu to access addons, so can change the SHPB urls by clicking the taskbar button of EOM and scrolling to SHPB in one move, no need for going to the extensions menu to change it

and for anyone who wants to change the icon, rename a 16x16 icon you want "icon-16.png", then close Firefox, open the secondhomepagebutton@firefox.xpi in your profile extensions folder using an archiver like 7z and drag the png to the files chrome/skin window, which'll ask 'are you sure you wanto copy files to archive?', then close 7z and restart Firefox

About config button

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

lol to Al Guevara's complaint

great looking icon, and lol to the name. Thanks

What about:..

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

great to have all these together, but wish they could be pinned to the taskbar, i never use the addon bar and when any of these are dragged to the taskbar, they just get sent back to addon bar when the browser restarts. An example of an addon that has the button added to the addon bar but can be pinned to the taskbar is Personas Plus so its possible

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0).

about:newtab Context Menu

has potential Rated 3 out of 5 stars

update, well it works now, thought there was a problem generating thumbnails, but isnt. One suggestion tho: instead of having two right click options, just have one, its disorientating and unintuitive to add links only to then need to right click again and choose the name. I mean, making a new bookmark and dragging it to about:newtabs is alot simpler, but its still good to be able to change the names of existing thumbnails.

so if you can make the menu option able to change both url and name with the same or similar interface as bookmark properties, would make this a viable alternative to dragging bookmarks

Iconic Firefox Menu

Thanks very nice Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Still works in FF 25. Personal preference tho is not to have the transparency parts shadowed by default, so changed your menu-overlay.css to suit, making it fully transparent till hovered over, just like other icons. Only needed lines 8, 9 and 11 changed

from
rgba(0,0,0,.15) 25%,
rgba(0,0,0,0.3) 50%) !important;
box-shadow: 0 0 4px rgba(0,0,0,.25) inset !important;
to
rgba(0,0,0,.00) 25%,
rgba(0,0,0,0.0) 50%) !important;
box-shadow: 0 0 4px rgba(0,0,0,.00) inset !important;

btw of the two menu icon mover addons, 'Movable Firefox Button' and 'UI Fixer', MFB works better with this. UI Fixers not bad, its just not designed with the specific coodinates Iconic Firefox Menu uses. eg ive made a replacement skin for personal thats 8 pixels larger and reduced the bottom buffer to 0, and UI Fixer handles that better, perhaps cause i designed it with UI Fixer installed

Search Site

Great but the icons got to go Rated 3 out of 5 stars

like Rez1dent, i dont like where the icons put, having two virtually the same inside a tiny searchbox is too distracting, think it should just be moved outside the searchbox, made into a seperate icon like "Site Searcher 2.0" does it (going by the screenshots) and as this is a better addon, letting you use any search engine youve got, holding out for a update to improve the ui, and have it deactived for now

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.4).
